TWO

Christmas Eve, 1997

Snow rests upon the wooden window as if it were a feathered cushion, soft and warm. It covers the rich, deep wood in perfect white almost as if there was no window. But inside the window perched on her velvet stool Lucy sat fixing her recently curled golden hair, pinning it with a holiday barrette to please her grandmother.

Pleased with how she cleaned up for Christmas Eve Lucy gave herself one last look in the vanity mirror while fluffing the ends of her dress as she got up and slipped on her black ballet flats she had received from her aunt.

"Oh shoot I'm already late!" Lucy exclaimed once she looked at the old clock hanged up on the wall that made her notice she was four minutes past her time.

Running down the hall Lucy came in contact with her father who had been waiting at the stairwell with a stern look on his face. "I expected you to be on time." He grumbled as he nodded for Lucy to go ahead.

Almost down the stairwell Charles chuckled at his daughter noticing she had forgotten to tie the back of her dress. "Lucy, you forgot to even tie your dress?"

"Sorry, father I was a bit behind today." She expressed as she stopped for him to fix her dress before embarrassing herself in front of her grandmother.

"This is why I told you, you should have a maid help you." He recalled to her making the princess roll her eyes knowing her father couldn't have seen her.

"The princes of Wales are already awaiting in the limo sir." The head servant announced to Charles as he held the door of the castle open for the father and daughter.

Charles thanked the sergeant with a nod and grin as he opened the limo to see the two princes already sitting down in.

"All ready Cinderella?" Harry asked smirking before William smacked the side of his head making Lucy chuckle at him groaning from pain.

Once they arrived at Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England Lucy ran right out of the limo as soon as she saw her cousin wrapped in a olive green coat.

"Lucy!" Beatrice, Princess of York, exclaimed as Lucy ran into her awaiting arms grinning ear to ear at her cousins excitement.

"I'm so excited, I have not a clue what I'm getting this year!" Lucy shouted as the trio of boys got out of the limo greeting all the other guest inside.

"I bet I got a Game Boy." Harry told them over hearing their conversation of what gifts they wish to receive.

"You hope you do!" Beatrice said with a smirk across her lips. Both Beatrice and Harry are very competitive with one another and love to challenge each other at everything they come across.

After the guest and family are done with snacks and tea they all await in the drawing room where all the presents are laid out on trestle tables for each family member.

Lucy's mouth hung open at the sight of her presents all on the table just awaiting for her to open all of them. "All right, everyone get by your pile so we may begin!" The Queen cried out as all the younger children ran to their individual pile.

"Okay, 3-2-1!" The queen exclaimed as all the children tore open their presents shouting out what they received. "I got it!" Harry yelled out holding the game which he wished to receive.

All the children loved everyone of their presents getting mostly what they had wish for but once Lucy had open her last present she couldn't have thought of last Christmas when her mom was there laughing and taking photos of all the children.

Not a second later a tear streamed down Lucy's rosy cheeks as she covered her crystal blue eyes with her hands wiping the tears before a family member would notice.

"You forgot something, Lucy." Charles told his daughter coming from across the room with a Tiffany blue box wrapped in a gold ribbon.

"No, that couldn't be mine I got every one of my gifts off my side of the table." She told him as he placed the small box into her tiny hand as she looked up at him with her crystal blue eyes.

"Open it, duckling." He told her as she gave a small laugh at her nickname her dad had made for her once she was the age of two.

Unwrapping the small ribbon and with every eye glued on the small fragile girl, Lucy opened the box finding a gold locket that had engraved on it, "My Little Princess".

"Dad, this is beautiful." She said admiring the locket as she opened it revealing a picture of her and her brothers at Disney with their mother a month before her passing.

Trying to hold back her tears Lucy looked up at her father before running into his arms sobbing into his chest. "Your okay." Charles whispered to Lucy caressing her back as she continued to cry.

There was not one dry eye in the whole family and guest looking at the exchange of the small family filled with both happiness and sadness.
