Chapter 8
The next days you talked with your brother, catching up on all the things you missed. Locus had joined the military at the youngest age possible. He was such a determined spirit when it came to fighting for what was right.
But then... he explained his mercenary years.
You could never imagine him being so cold hearted and merciless, but yet you couldn't hate him for it. You just couldn't. In fact, you had joined the military because you wanted to see Locus once again.
"So, what are you doing here?" You asked, braiding his messy hair. He didn't seem to mind.
"I overheard a pelican crashed into this canyon from a nearby radio. I decided to see who it was, help after all these years of torment." He responded quietly.
"Uh.. How'd you even get here though?" You questioned, genuinely curious. You knew your brother was incredibly smart and quick to think, but you didn't know he could travel without a pelican or something along those lines.
He looked back at you, being careful not to ruin the braid half done on his back. Locus smirked. "I have my ways..." of course.
You heard the click of the door and looked up, only to see Wash standing there.
"H-hey." It had been so long since you've heard him say that. He only talked when you weren't around. His voice sent a pleasant shiver down your spine. You hoped your brother didn't notice that.
"Why aren't you sleeping?" You asked, concerned. It seemed like Wash hated sleep, because he never got any of it.
When Wash didn't answer, Locus got up and nodded at you. He brushed past your commanding officer. Wash smiled lightly at the braid in his hair. You giggled softly and patted the spot next to your bed. He hesitantly complied.
"About the other day..." You spoke up. Wash's eyes widened as you finished your sentence, "y-you have feelings for me too?"
"Uh. Yeah. Not really how I planned to tell you though." He cleared his throat awkwardly. When you didn't even react, he spoke again.
There was shame in his voice. "I talked to Tucker the other day about this. I'm sorry we're making you choose. You arrived here what, 3 months ago? And we're already putting you through shit." Wash muttered.
You stopped staring down at your hands and instead looked into his grey eyes. Sometimes they could be cold, a light grey. Other times they could be a sparkling, bluish grey.
"(Y/N)," He whispered as you inched closer, breathing steady and even. You tilted your head slightly, capturing his lips in a kiss. Wash didn't kiss back at first, his hesitation up to the max. But when you pulled him impossibly closer, he couldn't resist the urge. You smiled through the kiss.
You pulled away, chest heaving a little. You gave a quick but soft hug, running your hands through his hair. He hummed in appreciation.
"Goodnight, Wash." You murmured. You were basically half asleep by now, falling back on to the bed and yanking the covers over you. Wash looked confused for a moment, but eventually got in bed with you and slept for once.
Peacefully.
