Ch. 1 ~ 1 Year Anniversary ~
Susanna's POV
I'm glad the week is over, I'm ready for the weekend. I love being a teacher at Talent Academy, but sometimes it can be exhausting. Especially now. As I make my way up the walk of mine and Joey's house, I can't help but wonder if he remembers what today is. It's our one year anniversary of our marriage. I smile, just picturing that man makes my face red. Maybe he always will.
Just as I'm about to put my key in the door lock, the door swings open. The instant I see Joey I know he remembers, and I could practically melt. He's wearing a tux, and I could almost melt. There's just something about a man in a tux that just boosts his looks. Even if he is already as good looking as my husband. I still love the sound of that word on my tongue.
"You know if you took a picture it would last longer." He smirks at me and winks. It's actually a decent wink, ahh he's been practicing.
"I might." I look down at myself and sigh. "Honey, I'm terribly underdressed."
"Go change." He smiles mysteriously. When I reach the bedroom a beautiful navy blue dress is laying on the bed. I smile and slip it on, taking my hair down and letting it fall across my shoulders and back.
"Better?" I ask as I enter the dining room where Joey has a romantic table setting.
He comes and takes me in his arms. As he does, he sings "So Beautiful" quietly in my ear. I close my eyes and lean into his chest. After he finishes the song, I speak up my voice raspy with emotion. "This anniversary is perfect." Now. Now is when I should tell him.
"Wait I have more surprises for you, Princess." He whispers, and he has a mischievous look in his wonderful blue eyes. It can wait a few minutes, I guess.
I loop my arm through his, "Then lead on, Prince Charming."
He takes me to our kitchen table and pulls out my chair. After I have my seat he brings a plate of food, covered. He sets it down in front of me and pulls the cover off. A giggle escapes me as I look at the food. Some people would think him silly, but I just call him wonderful.
He grins a sweet smile. "I know it's not much. But well it has meaning. The dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets are for our first date at Dinosaur World. The waffle fries are for all the talks we've had at Chick-Fil-A. The strawberries are for.."
"When you came after me when I had my eye surgery." I finish. There are tears in my eyes. "Joey, I couldn't think of a more perfect meal."
We pray and eat in relative silence. I can't eat anymore, I have to tell him. I find myself staring at him, a dreamy smile on my face. He catches me staring. "Is everything okay, Susanna?"
"Everything is great. I have something I want to say." I can tell he has no idea where I'm going with this. "Joey." He is literally sitting on the edge of his seat. "We're having a baby!" The words escape my mouth and I look at my husband, waiting for his response. I don't have to wait long.
He is grinning like a lunatic and crying a river. He stands and grabs me up, spinning us around the room into the living room. "Wait, I guess I should be more careful." He stares at my belly, a look in his eyes like I've seen Alan wear countless times with Brycie and their kiddos on his face.
"Babe. I'm gonna be a dad." He whispers. He leans in and kisses me softly, but that small kiss is filled with so much love it makes it hard to stand. Every time we kiss I thank God for me waiting on this man. It was so worth it.
