Chapter - 01
Near the border of Iran in a quaint little house, a lady dancer rings a bell. Through a small peephole, her whereabouts are evaluated. As soon as she answers, the door is opened wide and she is asked to change and join the men in the room at the back. The man's eyes look bloodshot and his face is covered by the other end of his turban. He roams his hands over her body making the guise of searching her. He grabs her intimately but she doesn't react, and then he directs her to the said room.
She changes to her shiny bell bottoms and a small top that barely covers her. Quietly, she removes the rug under her feet and retrieves the hidden item—a lifeline for escape. She puts on the veil meant to cover her face. As she leaves the room and walks through the small passage, a bellboy exits through the adjacent door. They walk side by side, she looks around to confirm that no one is watching, three men are busy guarding the door and she can see the shadow of more men coming from the creek of the door in front. She taps thrice on the exposed hand of the bellboy and he taps back four times. Nodding her head she stands behind him.
The bellboy raps on the door. It is promptly opened by another man who has his face covered similarly. His long beard pokes through his mask and he mutters something in a foreign language. He grabs her by her waist sneering at their prey for the evening. The bellboy quietly serves the men tea from the teapot. There are 5 men in total all armed with guns. Her eyes roam around holding the veil close. In the corner lay a whimpering hostage bound and bloodied. There are fresh scars on his head and over his body. His hands and feet are cuffed to the chair and then to the heavy iron rack beside.
The man yanks away her veil, whispering something vile in her ear. She lowers herself into the center of the room, preparing to dance, but her focus is on the bellboy. They've done this before. As she signals him, he "accidentally" trips, spilling boiling tea on the leader's lap. His scream echoes in the room. The man groans in pain and grabs the bellboy's throat leaving his gun behind. The four others are still carrying their weapons now pointing to the bellboy. She promptly takes out the guns hidden in her bell bottoms. Two shots find their way to the heads of two men, the third one faster than the other ducts behind the sofa. The bellboy removes the pistol from his jacket and shoots two of them injuring one. Both of them take cover. Shots fire from all sides as men guarding the door rush in.
She signals the boy to cover her as she moves slowly to rescue their hostage. The Hostage whimpers again now more alive than before. She looks around to find the keys to free him and finds them dangling from the hands of the man lying dead in the center. Her eyes span frantically in search of another weapon and she notices an axe on the mantle. A bullet fires and she misses just by an inch. She fires back now more furious than before yet keeping calm for the sake of the man bound. Grabbing the axe she gives three blows but the cuffs don't budge she is desperate to free him and run, now that the men must be asking for backup. She gives a single blow to the chair the wood shatters freeing the man's legs. Similarly, she frees his hands. The cuff tied to the rack takes more than 10 blows. Finally free the man takes a wobbly step ahead she holds his head down just in time as a bullet hits the wall behind him. The bellboy shoots killing the man standing at the door. The only man left doesn't resign and she fires shots in his direction, and he ducts again. His coal-black eyes are on her as they leave the room. She notices blood oozing from the arm of her partner. She signals him to take the man to the front door where her car is parked.
The only man left inches closer to the door as they enter the car. Shots are showering her car with bullets. She takes the wheel barely letting them enter and speeds on. The man speaks on his phone calling for backup and they realize soon they will be chased by more. The man with the deadly black eyes drives faster, the Sedan being dangerously close to them. She increases her speed her small car whirring down the door. Shots are fired again she looks back to find three more Sedans behind them. She tells her partner to remove the guns from under the seat. The hostage quickly ties a cloth around his rescuer temporarily containing the bleeding. She tells them to keep their heads down and fire continuously, not allowing the enemy to be too close as she herself ducks and drives through the screams of people.
A single shot hits the tire and the car loses its balance she curses under her breath. She sees a narrow path leading down the staircase. Telling her passengers to hold on tight she accelerates through the stairs, shots still hurling around her. Both the mirrors were broken by now, looking back she noticed one Sedan taking the same path as hers the same man that missed her previous shot. His eyes are determined, and he too accelerates behind her while the others move and take the roundabout way. She accelerates even with the wobbly tire and she sees the checkpost in front. The man guarding the checkpost throws his tea and comes to his senses and pushes the button that releases the barriers coming from the ground.
Another curse leaves her lips, and she pushes the car through the barrier barely making it, losing the underside of her car in the process. The Sedan behind her stopped and the man yelled at the guard to remove the barriers while firing the shots. The other three sedans joined him and stopped. Temporarily losing them she let out a strangled breath only to realize that the car was losing speed rapidly and it came to a halt.
She instructed them to run and all three ran for their lives till they reached a secluded building not far away. The building lay in ruins but she was confident that this was her escape. Entering she saw the blaring light of the elevator repaired just a week ago for their use. Just as they entered shots blasted. They moved to the corner of the elevator the bullets making several holes in the center wall of the elevator and she saw the black eyes of the man chasing her. Hurrying the men to the terrace she called in her microphone.
" Sparrow ready to fly, I repeat ready to fly".
" Copy that " came a voice and a steel cord was released attaching firmly to the terrace wall. She took out the bent steel bow from the ruins. The bow was supposed to carry them across the great wall ahead and she urged their hostage to hurry.
The hostage was shivering with fright, he took the bow closed his eyes said his last prayer to God, and was pushed over 20 feet. He held on and successfully crossed the wall. She hurried her partner he left telling her to move swiftly. She heard a noise and saw that the man had taken the stairs. Realizing that she didn't have much time before the others joined him she took the gun in one hand hanging over the bow by her other hand. The man removed his jacket using it as a vehicle to cross the wall with her. She saw the safety van waiting for her with others already inside. She looked behind and the man was already ready to follow her. She knew she wouldn't make it in time. She shouted,
" Wolf behind Cut the cord. Cut the cord "
The cord was promptly cut. She heard a shrill cry behind her the man with black eyes fell just before crossing the wall, she saw his coal black eyes and his curled fist and gave him a wide smile. She held the torn cord tightly still in the air. The van had started moving fast. She planted her feet on the road her shoes were heating up with friction as the van raced. One man pulled her and she tried to push herself towards the van. She held on to his hand and slumped down on the seat only to feel the searing pain in her abdomen.
" Sparrow you are shot " the man cried reaching for the first aid.
Her vision blurred and she let the weeks of exhaustion wash over her.
