1. - Bonjour Canada
SUFI (Song Used For Inspiration): 'Paradise' By: Coldplay
~~~~~
"Remmi, get up, we're here." Lily says, and I feel someone shaking me. I open one eye and see Lily shaking my arm.
"Already?" I ask, rubbing my eyes from exhaustion.
"Already? Of course already!" Lily remarks impatiently, "I was the one that had to put on your seatbelt while we were landing!"
"Oh," I say, smirking, "Sorry about that."
"Come on you lazy butt, get your stuff, some people have already left the plane." Lily says, getting her suitcase from the top shelf. I unfasten my seatbelt and do the same, right after Lily got out of the way. The two of us walk out of the plane, and make our way to the airport. It definitely felt a bit colder, but not as cold as Antarctica's weather was, thank goodness. We walked in, with many people in a line already, "Gosh, this will take soooo long." Lily says, rolling her eyes in impatience.
"I know, I hate that." I admit, nodding in agreement. We waited for a long time, and after they check our suitcases and we do all the steps possible, we finally got out, looking around.
"Wow, Canada I missed you so much!" Lily chirps, spiraling around.
"Lily be careful! You might run into someone." I say, chuckling. Lily was definitely the most immature girl I've ever met.
"I don't care anymore! It's just awesome that I am back!" Lily says in excitement.
"Alright Mrs. Canada, let's find a taxi and a hotel to stay in." I say with a small smirk. With no hesitation, Lily calls a taxi, and we both got in. This was definitely my home-town, I could tell where everything was, and only a few things were replaced. I glance at Lily, and I see her looking in her purse. Her eyes suddenly widen, and I knew that she realized something.
"Um, Remmi." Lily says nervously.
"What? You didn't forget your camera, did you?" I ask.
"No, it's not that." Lily says, gulping.
"Well?! What is it?" I ask, impatiently.
"We uh, we don't have, Canadian, money." Lily says, her voice lowering by each word. The driver apparently heard us, because he eventually stopped the taxi and told us to leave the car. Lily and I both looked at each other in shock, "How can you just leave us in the middle of the road?!" Lily protests.
"It's your problem, not mine." He says, opening our doors. I reluctantly get out with my suitcase, with Lily doing the same. Suddenly, the taxi driver slammed his door shut and sped off.
"Who the hell does he think he is?!" Lily shouts angrily.
"I don't know, but it makes him look like he has problems." I huff.
"Do you know where we are?" Lily asks. I look around, we were basically in the middle of nowhere. There was just a vast prairie, which had dying grass because it wasn't really green. There was just a long road, but we were particularly not close to civilization.
"Nope." I say, sighing.
"Well shit, now what do we do?" Lily says, pouting and folding her arms.
"We continue moving." I say, picking up my heavy suitcase from the floor, and walking towards the direction we were heading towards earlier, before the taxi driver just left us here.
"Are you serious Remmi?" Lily asks, still standing there with her hands on her hips.
"What other options are there?!" I shout, turning around and looking at her.
"Well, we could always ask for a ride from some random person passing by." Lily suggests, putting her thumb up.
"Lily, what if the person we run into is a crazy rapist or kidnapper? Would you want a ride from someone like that?" I ask.
"No, especially the way you put it." Lily says, biting her bottom lip. I could see a car in the distance from behind Lily, but I paid no attention to it, and continued walking. I heard Lily trudging her way to catch up to me, carrying her suitcase as well. I suddenly heard a car stop right on the road next to Lily and I. I look over at the car, whose window was down, "Are you two alright? You look kind of lost."
"Erm, yeah, we're fine." I struggle to say, looking at the driver. All of a sudden, I felt myself looking directly at the driver. He looked very familiar, his curly hair and face itself looked familiar. Suddenly, as if in instinct, the name slips out of my lips, "Mat?"
(A/N: Mat = Noochm, for those who somehow did not know) The driver gave me a weird look, but all of a sudden, he suddenly remembered me as well, "Remmi? Is that you?"
"Do you two uh, know each other?" Lily asks awkwardly. I give Lily a not-now look, and turn back to look at Mat.
"I thought you moved from Canada, when did you come back?" Mat asks sternly.
"First of all, can we get in the car? And then we can talk." Lily says impatiently.
"Erm, sure, get in." Mat says, while Lily and I got in the car with our suitcases. I sat back in my seat and held my suitcase on my lap. Lily closed her side of the door, and Mat started driving. It was some awkward silence for a while, since no one found the urge to speak, and Lily gave me who-the-heck-is-that glances. Everything was awkward, until, "So, Remmi, when did you decide to come back to Canada?"
"Um, I just came back, today." I struggle saying, it has been a while since I ever thought about Canada, or even brought up the topic itself. I guess I really did want to avoid it.
"Really? You never bothered to come and visit at least once?" Mat asks.
"No, it never came to me." I say, sighing. That wasn't the reason. I just didn't want to come back to something I ran away from unintentionally.
"You left Rob devastated, Remmi." Mat says hesitantly. My heart skipped a beat. Rob. I didn't know why, but he was the one that I still could never forget about. I didn't know he was devastated when he found out I left, I thought he didn't care that much about me.
"I-I did?" I ask, stuttering.
"No shit Remmi, how did you expect him to react? Did you think he'd just be cool with it?" Mat asks, irritated.
"We were teenagers, Mat, and we were just friends, n-nothing more." I struggle saying, biting my bottom lip, hoping that Mat's retort won't affect me.
"Nothing more, of course, why would you care, you just left." Matt mutters. Suddenly, guilt hit me hard, harder than when I realized how I just got up and left Canada when I was young. I sat there, silent, biting into my lip. Lily looked at me without an expression on her face. I could tell she understood our conversation, but she didn't want to join in on it.
"Um, Mat is it? Can you stop by at the nearest hotel?" Lily asks, uncertainly.
"Oh I know which hotel to bring you to." Mat answers firmly. I didn't know if it was a threat, or if it was a sign of how angry he was. But whatever it meant, it didn't sound good to me. I suddenly saw a city, which I could tell was Montreal, I sigh as I recognized the city. It reminded me of Los Angeles, but without the cold weather and French-Canadian. I close my eyes and sigh. I didn't want to look at Montreal, too many memories are bad enough for me right now. I didn't want to remember anything at all, if I did, I'd become too attached, and I'd just quit photography, which isn't good, I didn't want to do that. All I wanted was a happy, paradise-like, world of my own, with no worries at all, and I'd be the happiest girl alive, unlike right now. I felt my hand squeezed, and I opened one eye and turned my head down to my hand, and saw Lily gripping it with reassurance. I give her a small smile, but I close my eyes again. Everything was peacefully quiet, that is, until Mat said, "We're here."
I open one irritated eye and say, "Geez, no need to be so stern."
"I wouldn't be, if you hadn't come." He mutters, but I pretend to not hear it. I look at the hotel, and I have to admit, the city itself is impressive. If I were a tourist, I'd be clicking my camera non-stop at the gorgeous sceneries. The hotel was large, like any other, and it seemed to have a welcoming, déjà vou feel to it.
"I'm definitely glad to be back in Canada." Lily says, trying to cheer up the mood.
"Same." I agree in a soft tone, hoping that Mat didn't hear me
"Come on, let's go in." Mat says, carrying our suitcases. If it was a token of his gentlemanly side, then it wasn't really affecting me. He will always be that douchebag I know. We entered the hotel, and sure enough, the lobbies were busy. There was nothing different to expect from any hotel, really. I saw Mat at the front desk, filling in for Lily and I. I would normally say thank you, but him and I were at crossroads here. Mat turned to face us, and held up the card for our hotel room. Lily gets the card out of his hand, and he says, "Follow me, I know where your room is."
"You'd better know, I don't want to be roaming around in a hotel." Lily says, gritting her teeth. He walked up the stairs, since our luggage wasn't at all heavy, and we followed him up. He turned to the second floor, and walked down the hallway of doors. He was walking really fast, which meant I had to pick up my pace once in a while, just to catch up to him. He stopped in front of a door, numbered 302, and he looked at Lily. As if in cue, she put the card in the slot, and once it beeped, she took it out and opened the door. The room was plenty big, the carpet floor was a dark shade of brown, and the walls were beige. The room had two queen white beds, with the most soft covers. It also had everything we needed, a sink, bathroom, television, and a microwave.
"You'd better be lucky that I came across you and helped you get in this place." Mat says, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Thanks Mat." Lily says, examining the room.
"Thank you, Mat." I say hesitantly, without looking directly at him.
"I'll be right back." He says, getting his phone out of his pocket, and walking out into the hallway. I sigh and turn on the t.v, hoping that there was something entertaining on. Lily sat on the other bed, her back resting against a fluffy white pillow. I could hear Mat talking, but to who? I didn't really want to know, I guess it was a friend of his or someone like that, telling them about my arrival, probably. Just as he left, he came back in the room saying, "There's someone who'll come."
"It had better not be my parents." I mutter, twiddling my thumbs.
"No, it isn't, it's someone else." He says, looking out of the door out into the hallway, as if someone were there, walking towards him.
"Who could that be?" I ask, crossing my arms. Mat then stepped back, and let someone else in the room, he looked very, very familiar. My eyes widen, and my arms loosen. The guy looked at me in disbelief, and says, "Remmi?"
There was a lump in my throat, but I gulped, and got the courage to answer back,
"H-Hello, Robert."
