Let's Go Back to Our Stage...
The giant robot loomed over Adam. His eyes danced around as the sparks zoomed and darted, illuminating the room for for the few split seconds he needed to see the metal impressions of a giant dinosaur.
Adam gulped. His tears were still fresh on his face, but they had stopped. He was to scared to cry.
The robot was big, purple, and had a lot of teeth. It was definitely a dinosaur. On his hand, like a puppet, was another dinosaur. From the dim light he could see that it was red.
To his left was a row of red buttons. "You may now interface with the breaker control box." He slowly crept towards them, keeping a steady eye on the big animatronic, that probably was a friend of his, but he just couldn't see it yet.
Below the red buttons was an ipad-like screen. Adam assumed this was the control box. He took it, and the screen flickered to life. A layout of the place was displayed.
"Using the interface may disrupt nearby electronics. If you feel you are in danger, feel free to disconnect the interface temporarily, until it is safe to reconnect." Adam gulped.
He was terrified. His hands were shaking as he tried to calm himself. Something was making his heart race.
"How do I- oh." Adam held the screen level and it turned off. He moved it upright again and it re-lighted. He placed his hand on the first "restart" button and it began regaining power. It was almost to 60% when he heard something.
Metal on metal.
The screen shot down in an instant and the light turned off. As his eyes adjusted, his heart began pounding faster and faster.
It moved.
He saw how it was not on it's stage when he looked. He could only gather so much information with the faulty lighting in this place. Then he saw it. Standing behind a group of pipes, for a split second, he saw the face of his friend.
Barney.
Adam internally screamed. He wanted so badly to just yell, releasing all the tension in his lungs, but he held himself back.
The red buttons gleamed at him and grabbed his attention. Above them, scratched in the metal, were the words, "Mascot Response Audio."
Adam glanced from Barney, to the buttons, to the red puppet, to the buttons, to Barney, and finally, staring fixated at the blank screen of the interface. He looked up suddenly, pressing the first button with all the will he had left in him.
"Calm down and go back to sleep... No one is here!"
Adam felt shivers go down his spine. He recognized that voice...
It was Red. Red Vactor.
As Adam's mind, slow and numb from fear, moved and shifted the strange pieces into place, barney moved. Every twenty seconds or so he would move. Never in the light though. Always in the shadows, while Adam waited for the sparks to flicker back to life.
Eventually he was back on his stage.
Adams mind finally clicked. Barney the dinosaur, Red's voice, the fact that they had been best friends and they still obviously were, it all added up. He realized that the puppet, sitting on Barney's hand, was Red. He also realized that whoever did... this... knew them well. They had been the best of friends.
Adam did not want to look at his screen. He knew if he looked down for even a short time, Barney would move. He didn't want Barney to move. He was scared.
But he had to.
He didn't wait this time. He knew the longer he waited, the longer he would be stuck in this stupid place. He wondered what Ty was thinking, having to wait for him when they both should have been gone a long time ago.
He thought that if he could turn the screen on and watch at the same time, but the brightness of the screen made it impossible to see anything else around him until it was turned off. It only made his heart race more.
He swallowed his fears. He thought about his friends, awaiting his return. He thought about when he was even going to return.
He flipped up the screen and pressed the top button.
