Dreams and Reality

Adam dreamed.

He dreamt that there were two big animatronics. They were scary to him.

Then he dreamt there was a smaller one, but it wasn't Freddy. It was different. It told him he had to run, to find him, that he couldn't let it catch him. Then a giant fox came into his dream.

He woke up screaming.

Ty was with him in a flash, comforting him and telling him that it was just a dream.

Adam believed him.

"You don't have to tell me about it of you don't want to." Adam shook his head and lay back, a bit stressed. His heart rate had gone up dramatically.

He opened an eye. From the basement door Ross was peeking his head out, probably to make sure that he was okay. Adam smiled at Ross and he returned it, disappearing once again. Adam glanced at the clock.

It was 11:30.

A sinking feeling was growing in his stomach and attaching itself to his mind. He remembered all of the events from the night before. He remembered Aphmau's closed eyes and her face frozen in fear. He remembered Ross's bowtie (which he had forgotten to mention) and the scratching he had heard in the vents. He remebered Shelby's quiet, dying voice.

He didn't want to go back.

He had to though. He promised Max he was coming back.

He had to find a way to... Save them.

He stood up. Ty watched him. At first he was surprised at Adam's nervous face, but then he looked at the time. "You don't have to if you don't want to, Sky." Ty got up and walked over to Adam, who was getting his jacket on.

He sighed. "I promised, Ty."

Ty ran ahead of Sky and grabbed the car keys. "At least let me drive you! All you have to do is go in and out." He threw his jacket on and ran ahead of Adam again. He opened the door for him, because he knew that he had no idea what he was going through.

Before closing the door, Ty shouted behind him, "We're leaving Ross! Don't kill yourself while were gone!"

"Hey!" Ross called playfully after.

Then they were on their way.

Ty parked it a block or two away from Afton's house. They sat in silence for a bit. Finally Adam uttered a goodbye and left the car.

He was just about to step into the elevator when his phone went of, twice. It was Ty and Ross.

Be fast. I don't wanna wait forever. ;)

He sighed, not responding to either, and began his decent.

The hand unit talked about something different this time. "Welcome back for another night of intellectual stimulation, pivotal career choices, and self reflection on past mistakes." Sky once again mentally questioned Afton's robotic friend choices. Sky once again drowned the voice out. Until the screen popped up, then he paid attention to it. "Using the keypad below, please select a new companion voice. For male, press 1. For female, press 2. For text only, press 3. For other options, press 4."

"I wonder why Afton would keep the setting to that stupid voice." Adam looked at the keypad. "Probably because he couldn't change it."

As soon as his finger even brushed the keypad, it turned off. "Aw, dang it. You stupid piece of crap!"

"It seems you had some trouble with the keypad. I see what you were trying to type, and I will auto correct it for you." Adam mentally cringed at the answer. "Thank you for choosing, Angsty Teen."

The rest of the ride down was filled with elevator noises and nothing else. Adam was scared. He didn't want to see his friends like that again. He tried over and over to convince himself that what he had seen was fake, but he couldn't. Something deep down in the pit of his stomach was telling him that they were, in fact, his fellow... used-to-be-roommates.

The music started playing. Adam hated it.

With more power than he knew he had, he crawled through the vent towards his friends, and with an unimaginable strength that was not humanly possible, he ignored the most cringy robotic voice on the face of the planet.

As he was crawling, his awesome burst of power faltered, and he caught what the angsty teen was saying.

"So, funny story, a dead body was found in this vent once." Adam froze. What?!? he thought. And... Afton never bothered to tell me? "Mkay, so... Not that funny... but it's a story."

Adam continued crawling. "Funny story indeed..."

He planned to quit after this night. He was not risking his life over this again.

"Okay, let's start with your nightly chores. You should check on Ballormau and make sure she's on her stage, but whatever..."

Adam didn't press the button. He watched and stared out the window, half expecting Jess, his Jess, to appear behind the glass and scream for help, for her to knock on the glass and scream for Adam to save her. He cried. A couple of his tears fell onto the glass. They slid off.

He pressed it eventually.

Her shadow danced before him on the glass. He saw a vaugue shadow of her face, but it was... different...

It was angry...

Adam tried to scream, but all that came out were chocked sobs. He stepped back, and it moved closer.

And the light went out.
