Night 1

The large metal cylinder walls that surrounded me shook as I descended into the ground. The uneasiness of it all was more than enough to get my heart pumping. Heck, I almost got the implication that I was about to be sent to a torture chamber or slave camp, never to see the light of day again.

I took a look around the chamber and saw windows revealing the shaft outside, some posters of Baby and Ballora on the elevator walls, and some random assortment of buttons and lights.

"Welcome to the first day of your exciting new career!"

I jumped as a mysterious voice suddenly played from my pocket. I quickly realized it was coming from the tape-recorder thing Tyler gave me.

"Whether you were approached at a job fair, read our ads in 'Screws, Nuts, and Hairpins', or if this is the result of a dare, we welcome you."

Well, that's one way to make an opening statement.

"I will be your personal guide to help you get started. I'm a Model 5 of the Handyman's Robotics and Unit Repair System. But you can call me HandUnit."

'HandUnit'. Huh. Kinda sounds like a euphemism.

"Your new career promises challenge, intrigue, and endless janitorial opportunities."

Ugh. If I wanted to be a janitor, I would've applied at Jasmine's school. Come to think of it, at least I would be working first shift and I'd be closer to my baby girl...

Just then, I heard a clicking sound behind me. I turned and saw that a screen with a digital keyboard had appeared.

"Please enter your name into the keypad. This cannot be changed later, so please be careful."

Right away, I noticed a problem: the keys were glitching out or something, seeing as how they kept shuffling around. Typing on this thing was going to be a challenge, if not impossible.

Let's see...A...L...I think I typed that right...let's see...I...

"It seems that you had some trouble with the keypad." HandUnit announced as the keypad displayed an 'error' screen. "I see what you were trying to type, and I will autocorrect it for you. One moment."

A second or so passed before I heard from the mysterious voice again.

"Welcome...Eggs Benedict."

Eh. Close enough.

The screen then retreated into the wall and turned off. A second later, the elevator stopped, leaving me unbalanced for a moment. Thankfully, I regained my balance and turned towards the elevator doors.

"You can now open the elevator using that bright, red, and obvious button. Let's get to work!"

I then gave a small chuckle. Round elevator, futuristic setting, a male voice giving instructions in a humorous way...if I didn't know any better, I'd say I had stumbled into Aperture Science!

Following my guide's instructions, I walked to the red button next to the door and pressed it. The doors instantly opened, revealing a small square space that I can only assume I'd have to crawl through. I guess this is what the ad meant by cramped spaces. Seeing as how I had no other choice, I got on my knees and crawled through the opening.

Right away, it was clear that this was some sort of ventilation shaft, just barely large enough for a human of my size to crawl through. And I'm not the biggest of humans.

"Allow me to fill this somewhat frightening silences with some lighthearted banter."  HandUnit continued. "Due to the massive success and even more so the unfortunate closing of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, it was clear that the stage was set, no pun intended, for another contender in children's entertainment. Unlike most entertainment venues, our robotic entertainers are rented out for private parties during the day. And it's your job to get the robots back in proper working order before the following morning."

Sounds like a simple enough job, I suppose. Though it's kinda funny how the voice failed to mention Circus Baby's Pizza World, as if it didn't exist. Maybe there wasn't a point, since it wasn't open long.

I finally made it to the end of the vent and crawled out of the shaft. I found myself in a narrow room with sickly green lights illuminating the place. To either side of me was a giant window with darkness on the other side. There was a podium with two buttons on it in front of each window. One has blue and had a sun-like symbol on it and the other was red and had a lighting bolt symbol on it.

At the far end of the room was what looked like another ventilation shaft right under a giant maintenance fan in the wall. Above that was what looked like a creepy porcelain clown mask divided into 4 sections. It was chalk white, had a bright red nose, and a yellow and green striped party hat. Everything else in the room was just Circus Baby merchandise, including a wall clock with Baby's face on it.

"You are now in the primary control module. It's actually a crawlspace between the 2 front showrooms. Now, let's get started with your daily tasks. View the window to your left."

I followed his orders and looked to the left window. Again, it was too dark on the other side to see anything.

"This is the Ballora Gallery Party Room and Dance Studio. Let's turn on the light and see if Ballora is on stage. Press the blue button on the elevated keypad to your left."

I turned towards that blue button from earlier and pressed it. Right away, a section of the room lit up, revealing some sort of stage. The only problem was that nobody was on it!

"Uh-oh! It looks like Ballora doesn't feel like dancing! Let's give her some motivation. Press the red button now to administer a controlled shock. Maybe that will bring the spring back in her step!"

'Controlled shock'?? Doesn't that hurt the robots?

I then mentally face-palmed myself. They're robots; they can't feel pain. They can't feel anything.

I then pressed the red button and heard a loud zapping noise coming from behind the window.

"Let's check the light again."

I pressed the blue button again, and was then greeted to the sight of the ballerina animatronic spinning on her stage, surrounded by smaller ballerinas.

"Excellent. Ballora is feeling like her old self again and will be ready to perform again tomorrow. Now, view the window to your right."

I looked to the other window and found the exact same situation on that side. Darkness beyond the window, a raised keypad, and colored buttons.

"This is the Funtime Auditorium. Try the light. Let's see what Funtime Foxy is up to."

I pressed the blue button and saw another empty stage.

"Looks like Funtime Foxy is taking the day off. Let's motivate Funtime Foxy with a controlled shock."

Seeing as how this seemed to be the only way to get these robots back where they needed to be, I pressed the red button. Loud electrical zapping could be heard on the other side of the glass. When it resided, I turned the light on again. I was actually a bit confused when I did; the stage was still empty!

"Let's try another controlled shock."

I pressed the red button and then the blue button again. This time, I could see a tall white and pink fox moving in place on the stage.

"Looks like Funtime Foxy is in perfect working order! Great job!"

"Oh, shush," I playfully told the voice, even though I knew it couldn't hear me.

"In front of you is another vent shaft. Crawl through it to reach the Circus Gallery control module."

I sucked up my courage and crawled through the vent. I wouldn't say I was claustrophobic, but I'd prefer to not be in enclosed spaces when possible. But, if I gotta crawl through one to do my job, I suppose it's worth it.

I reached the other side and found myself in a metallic room with a giant window in front of me, once again showing darkness on the other side. There was also a keypad identical to the two in the previous room, as well as a bunch of buttons and lights. There was also a dangling toy that looked like a character from a previous Fazbear location. I think his name was...BB?

"On the other side of the glass is Circus Baby's Auditorium. Let's check the light and see what Baby is up to."

Almost as if I've caught on to the job by now, I went over and pressed the blue button. While some sort of light did come on, I couldn't see through the window, like some sort of semi-opaque glass shower door.

"Looks like a few of the lights are out, but we can fix that later. Let's encourage Baby to cheer up with a controlled shock."

I gave a small chuckle at that as I pressed the red button. 'Cheer up'? What, is this like Futurama in that electricity is their drug or something? Regardless, I pressed the blue button again, and I received the same blind sight.

"Let's try another controlled shock."

I repeated the process again with same results.

"Let's try another controlled shock."

Sheesh. Baby seems to be having a rough night, isn't she? I pressed the red and blue buttons again, and I still didn't see any kind of difference.

"Great job, Circus Baby! We knew we could count on you! That concludes your duties for your first night on the job."

Wait...that's it?? After all that, THAT'S all I needed to do??

"We don't want you to leave overwhelmed; otherwise, you might not come back!"

Well, I suppose that makes sense...but I better not be getting shitty pay for this!

"Please leave by using the vent behind you, and we'll see you again tomorrow!"

I rolled my eyes, still a little pissed that I didn't do anything of real value, and crawled back through the vent. I suppose I can't complain too much. After all, HandUnit is right; I don't want too much information thrown at me on my first day.

After making my way back to the control module and through the second vent, I found my way back onto the elevator. I pressed the red button, the doors closed, and I slowly went back up. I then gave a small smile. Honestly, if I get paid decently for a simple job like this, maybe it won't be so bad. Sure, it may seem like an inconvenience, but at least I'll have something to help Jasmine.
