Epilogue

When you're a cop, you know you're going to get cases that break you or get a little too personal. But never did I think something like this would ever happen, especially when my own family was involved.

When I heard that there was a homicide on 1114 Creeter Street, my heart dropped. That was Alice's address. And when I heard that the victim was a child, my heart just shattered completely. The chief, of course, told me to not get involved as I wouldn't be in the right state of mind. He was right, of course, but that didn't stop me from feeling awful.

When Jane found out, she was the biggest hysterical mess I'd ever seen her be. She was bawling and hugging me tightly, saying over and over how she just can't believe this is happening. Understandable. It got even more bizarre, though, when some of the details made their way to me.

As I feared, the victim was 9-year-old Jasmine White. She was strangled by what appeared to be bare adult hands. What surprised me, and what got Jane pissed, was that the prime suspect was 29-year-old Alice White, the victim's mother, who was nowhere on the property.

"Who do they think she is, Casey Fucking Anthony??" Jane screeched. "She loved Jasmine!! She'd never hurt her!!!"

Despite her anger and logic, I don't know what to believe. A few things about the situation don't add up.

Jasmine was strangled, yet neighbors heard a gunshot. The bathroom had blood splattered all over the wall and mirror, like someone was shot right in front of the sink, yet no body was found. Did someone kill Alice, as well, and take her body?

The chief keeps insisting I stay out of it, even saying I just go home and take a few days to relax. Well, how the fuck am I supposed to relax when my niece is dead and possibly my sister, as well? At the very least, my sister is alive and wanted for murder!

There's no way Alice could have done this...but if she's alive, then there's no other explanation...

One of my friends who investigated the crime scene managed to find and swipe something that looked important. He gave it to me to see what I could make of it.

He said he found it in the bathroom next to a pile of blood on the floor. I took a look at it. It looked like some sort of artificial eyeball. It was purple with a black iris. It looks like it came from some sort of robot. But how did it get in her house?

There are so many questions about this case that make no sense...and even if I'm not officially part of the case, I swear I'll do whatever it takes to find the answers. Whoever killed Jasmine, whether it be Alice or someone else, needs to pay heavily for what they've done!

4 Months Later

"Dude...it's even scarier than I remember, Man!"

"Yeah, tell me about it. But we gotta do this."

"Yeah... I guess you're right."

We got out of my car and started walking towards the building. It hadn't properly been taken care of for a while, so of course it still looked as shitty as it did when it caught fire. Man, what a day that was...

"I can't believe it's been 2 years, Man."

"Yeah...time flies, huh?"

"I guess so..."

He never really got over the whole thing. Honestly, I don't think I did, either. When your best friend dies and it's partially your fault, you never fully cope from that, especially when it was an accident.

"Well, what do you say?" I finally asked. "Shall we head in?"

"Sure... hey...!"

He seemed to be staring off in the distance. I turned to where he was looking and saw someone slowly limping across the sidewalk.

"Hey!" I called out.

They kept walking, as if ignoring me.

"Are you okay?"

Nothing. I sighed and jogged over to their direction. When I got closer, I could see that it was someone in a black hoodie, blue jeans, and black work boots. I also noticed that they smelled disgusting.

"Excuse me," I tried again.

This time, they stopped. They didn't turn towards me, though.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

Still no answer. I then moved so I was in front of them. I gasped and backed up when I did.

It looked like a young woman, but her chin looked completely shattered and broken, like something penetrated it! On top of that, her skin was a sickly green color and her face looked kinda saggy.

"Yes, I'm fine," she finally replied in a normal-sounding female voice. "Now please excuse me."

I then got out of her way an she continued to walk down the path. I took one last look at her before jogging back.

"What was that about? Everything cool?"

"Uh, yeah... everything's cool. Anyway, let's just go and pay our respects already."

"...okay, Dude."

I pulled out the key and walked to the entrance. I unlocked the door and went inside the building. The first thing I saw as a perfect layout of where his body was exactly 2 years ago...yet wasn't harmed by the fire. What wasn't there 2 years ago and now is was the wreath of flowers we left there last year. They obviously decayed at this point, but it was still there. Thankfully, we had a replacement for this year, which I then placed next to the old one.

"I'm sorry, buddy," I told the wreath. "I know you're in heaven or whatever, but...still. I wish you were still here."

"Yeah, Man. What he said."

I stared for a few more seconds before nodding.

"Okay. Let's go."

That's when I heard something in the hallway. We both turned that way and saw nothing. Ugh. Probably just wood settling or something.

"Yeah, this place is giving me the creeps, Man. Let's go."

"Yeah, let's...do you hear that?"

We were both silent. Maybe I was imagining it...no...I heard it this time.

"...going...you..."

"Did you hear it?" I asked.

"I think..."

"I'm going...you..."

"I don't like this!"

That's when we heard it loud and clear.

"I'm going to come find you!"

That did it. We rushed out of that building, but not before locking it back up! After that, we ran right back into the car and locked that, too! I tried starting it up, but all I could do was listen to that creepy voice over and over again.

"I'm going to come find you! I'm going to come find you! I'm going to come find you!"

Finally, I got the car started and I gave a sigh of relief. I looked over at him and smiled.

"See? No problems. We're fine."

All I could do was see his jaw drop and point behind me.

I slowly turned to my left and saw the silhouette of a tall, yellow bunny.

I quickly hit the gas and drove forward to get as far away from here as possible! As we drove, I made sure to not look back!

After we were a long distance away, I pulled into a gas station to try and get myself calm.

"Chuck...what the hell is going on?"

"I...don't know, Guy. But I'll say this: I don't think Eric will mind if we don't come back next year."

THE END
