Flynn Cloud (2) Edited
Lydia's P.O.V. (Two Months Later)
I don't understand why pregnant people have to urinate so frequently, so I moaned as I got out of bed to go to the toilet for the hundredth time this evening. I've been waking up every two months to dash to the toilet to either urinate or throw up.
Yes, two months have passed. Since that encounter, I haven't made an effort to get in touch with Flynn or approach him. What my heart dreads to hear. I don't want to hear him say that this baby was a mistake.
Don't get me wrong, I don't have feelings for him or anything like that, I mean it was a liquored-fueled one-night stand, I just didn't think that I would end up pregnant.
For the first week or so, Mom and Dad were furious with me, but as soon as they accepted the fact that they would soon become grandparents, their rage subsided. Dad has lung cancer, they have been on my ass about finding a boy before I got pregnant. Mom has tried asking who the father is but I'm afraid of what will happen to them when they find out this baby is Flynn's baby.
Sighing I grabbed my things before quickly saying bye to my parents and got into the car for a night shift at the hospital. West Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts is where I live. It's a nice area, with a lovely view, it was like a break of fresh air almost. I have been living here all my life, and I never want to leave...well, I wouldn't say never, just for now...we'll see after the birth of...what should I call the baby? I don't want to call a thing...or it...what would be a nickname until the baby is born?
Parking in the hospital parking lot I search up how big a two-month-old baby is compared to fruit, I know weird, but maybe I could think of a nickname from there... A two-month-old baby....is as big as a raspberry...Berry? Yeah, each month I'll change the name compared to its size in fruit. Don't make fun of me lots of people do it.
A.N/ My grade seven teacher used to do this every week, she used to change the unborn baby's nickname to the fruit size. So each week we would call her unborn baby a different fruit nickname. I know weird...but I thought it would be cute.
Getting out of the car I grabbed my stuff before checking into the work schedule, I worked night shifts mostly, it was never that busy, 8:00 pm-4:00 am. Maybe some emergency patients come in but usually, it was really laid back, just me and Jordan. My co-worker and close friend Jordan West, we went to med school together and got a job together. But let's just say our friendship was limited to work and school. No one could replace Cassie's spot.
"Look who decided to grace us with her presence ten minutes late," Jordan said smirking,
Rolling my eyes at him I put my name tag on, "Shut up Jordan. I am only five minutes late and I had to go pee like four times before I could actually get in the car."
"Mhm, baby pushing down on bladder too much?" He asked concerned
Leaning against the counter I nodd, "Way too much. I didn't know being pregnant was so hard."
Jordan rubbed my back, "Take it easy Dia, don't want to put too much stress on the baby okay?"
Smiling I say, "Wanna see something cool?" I took my phone out showing him the fruit comparison to the baby, "It's about the size of a raspberry so I decided that instead of every week every month, I'm going to change Berry's nickname to the fruit."
Jordan chuckled pulling me into a hug, "You are so cute, Dia,"
Blushing I pulled away, "Be quiet and get to work. I just heard your pager going off."
His eyes widen and ran away before whispering shit, giggling I sit down on my chair beginning to work on some paperwork for one of the doctors. I loved working as a nurse it felt great knowing that I was helping someone feel better or saving lives. The shift went on for what felt like hours, not many people came in just a mom and baby who was running a very high fever, I would have helped but Jordan insisted I stayed away because of the COVID-19 situation going on at the moment. Hopefully, the baby doesn't have it.
"I'm going for my break," Jordan said, "The baby and mom are being tested by Dr.White, the reports will be e-transferred onto your computer okay?"
"Okay," I said, "How long is your break?"
"An hour and a half. I'll try to come back faster-"
"No, I'm good here. Enjoy your break."
He sighed, "Alright, just a ring away okay?"
"I'm okay Jordan, " I said giggling, "I may be pregnant but I know how to do my job still."
He chuckled walking away, saluting me. I appreciated his concern and Cassie's but sometimes it feels so overwhelming. I waited for the reports to come in so I could finish up the task on hand, in 30 minutes the results came back and the baby....was negative. Along with the mother. Letting out a relieved sigh I smile as the mom and baby come out, "Congratulations! Both of you're negative."
A tear slipped out of the mom's eyes, "Oh thank god," She whispered hugging her child close to her, "What's wrong with her then?"
I look over the prescription printing it out for her, "Tia just has a viral infection, most kids have it around this time of the month as school is starting to give out. Do you have other kids around the house?"
"Yeah, one older sister as well."
"Exactly, around summertime kids usually get sick as the weather changes, this little cutie has caught a cold she may have." I say handing her the prescription, "This antibiotic will do the job."
She smiled thanking me before walking out of the hospital. Tia is such a cute name... I wonder what I am having as a boy? Or a girl?
As soon as the mother and daughter left there was a loud sound of tires screeching coming from outside of the hospital. Maybe some teens fooling around. Going back to my work I head the door open and close I lift my head up to greet the patients but my smile fell as soon as I saw who it was. Flynn...and Brazen.
Gulping I stood up straighter, Brazen helped Flynn over to the counter letting out a big breath he looked at me intimidated I took a step back, "We need help,"
"Um..." I said stunned, "Um, what happened?"
"Come around," He said, actually demanded as Flynn dozed in and out of consciousness, doing as he ordered I stepped out from my safe space helping him put Flynn on one of the waiting chairs.
I gasped taking a step back there was a huge cut on his side, his shirt was ripped as his blood spilled out. I watched it ooze out covering the floor, I paged Jordan to take the counter as I led them both over to an emergency room, "Lay him down here," I said quickly pulling out basic tools from the room's emergency first aid kit. "How long has it been since he has been cut?"
Brazen slumped down against the wall, "20 to 30 minutes,"
"He's lost a lot of blood," I stated quickly cleaning up the wound with some alcohol. "It has to be longer than that Sir, I need proper information." My hands worked fast, this is what I was trained for, this is what I did for a living. As I worked I looked up at Flynn, he was completely unconscious now. His body would flinch here and there from the stinging of the medications.
He sighed, "An hour ago, he was cut an hour ago. We both were far from here and I took a long time. Is he going to be okay?"
I think so, "Yeah, he'll be fine. Once I get this wound disinfected and shut, I'll get my co-worker to help me hook up an IV and do a basic check-up. What is his blood type?"
"O negative."
Paging Jordan I wait for him to arrive, "Is everything okay?" He asked panting, probably ran over to us. He saw Brazen in the corner, and his whole posture changed. Brazen stood up, "Hey man," He greeted Jordan. Did they know each other?
Stepping away from Flynn, "I just needed you to grab some blood from the blood bank, O Negative. He has lost a lot of blood on the way here."
Jordan nodded, "I'll go get it, we just had a donor this morning lucky for him. His blood type is really rare."
Sighing I wash my hands getting ready to set up the IV, "We have to keep him overnight..." I said looking over at Brazen. I didn't want him to know that I knew his name. It would be weird.
"Brazen, and that's Flynn." He said kind of shocked, "You are..."
"Lydia." Walking over to Flynn I hook up the IV, "I'll be right back Brazen."
He nodded slightly stumbling, was he hurt too? Changing my direction I walk over to him, and put my hand up against his forehead, "You're burning," I say dragging him over to the other bed I make him sit taking a temperature, of 104 F, "Oh my god Brazen lay down."
He didn't struggle, quickly hooking up an IV to him to take the COVID-19 test for him, before pushing glucose through the tube. "I'll be right back. The test results will be sent over in 30 minutes until then please just stay here."
He didn't have the energy to struggle he looked at me nodding, "Thank you, Lydia."
"Just doing my job," I said before running out of the room.
