Funeral

A/N:  Don't own the pic... ik it has nothing to do with this but its cute

The League and members of the Teen Titans and Batfamily stood behind Batman as he walked, holding a Nightwing costume in his hands.  Eskrima sticks on top of it.

Everybody all but held their breath as the costume of one of the most beloved vigilantes to ever walk on League grounds was walked to it's final resting spot.  The grotto.  The grotto was a small place, located at the mouth of Mount Justice.  But even as the grotto was small, that didn't stop the whole League, all the Titans, the whole extensive members of the Batfamily, and other vigilantes that belonged to no team but were there anyway.

Batman stepped forward and laid the costume into a long box, laying the eskrima sticks in a cross above it.  He took a step back and the dark clouds that were filling the skies suddenly let loose their burden of rain and poured.

Superman and Wonderwoman silently stepped forward, and lifted up the coffin to lay it into the ground.  Martian Manhunter came up in front of them and telekinetically lifted the dirt from the ground to cover the coffin and then flatten it out.

Superman stepped beside Batman and laid a hand on his shoulder in the comforting matter, the way that he had years ago at the second Robin's death and again at the fifth's, then addressed the entire assembly,  for it was he who had been picked to say the speech before the dead-way-too-young 20 year old was lowered into the ground, "Nightwing was a true hero."

Every single hero nodded, not denying the undeniable truth.  Superman waited for everybody to finish murmuring and mumbling before continuing.

"I could go on and on and on again about his heroic actions."  Superman gave a small grin as the assembly moved forward a little in their chairs, "But I won't.  I'll focus my attentions elsewhere.  Because before Nightwing was Nightwing, he was Robin.  And when the whole League first met Robin, we were bewildered that Batman would even let a kid join his crusade of revenge."

The original members of the League's head's shot up, surprised that Superman would even admit this in the Dark Knight's presence.   The newer members of the League all turned to stare at the older ones in pure surprise, who were standing in the front of the assembly, right behind the Teen Titans and Batfamily.  Batman turned to look at Superman, the past few days had not been good on him and his friend wasn't helping, "I don't like where you're going with this."

"You don't have to.  Plus, you need to hear me out."  Superman said calmly, before continuing, "As I said, we didn't like that Robin would be joining Batman.  But we soon learned that he wasn't any normal kid.  Robin had a drive, a will, a tenacity, that goes unmatched even today.  When Robin met us, he didn't have to try to get us to like him.  We were all with him, on his side by the end of the day.  And boy did the Justice League learn two things that day.  1.  Batman did have a heart.  He did have happiness.  And 2.  That heart and happiness was Robin."

"We watched him grow up.  We watched him as he first defeated an army himself.  We watched him as he went off to the Teen Titans.  We watched his thirst for justice, his thirst to do the right thing bloom and take off.  We watched Robin disobey an order from Batman, just to prove his loyalty, a loyalty to the person he didn't refer to as Batman like everybody else, but as Dad."

"There was no question about it.  Robin was a true hero, and he would do anything to save somebody.  I once watched him through himself in front of a bullet to save the ENEMY!  He would go to so many lengths so that many people wouldn't die.  But as we all know, Robin can't last forever.  And so he created a legacy, he paved a path that many would soon follow in."

"And he became Nightwing.  He was older, wiser, and his laugh before jumping into a battle was no longer.  Nightwing not only was a treasured hero to us, but to Gotham.  He saved many people many times.  He was a kinder and gentler hero, one that everybody loved.  He took on every challenge in stride.  Including his adventures into one of the most corrupt cities in the world.  Bludhaven.  He fixed the Haven, and saved so many lives every night."

"Then Nightwing moved on to become Batman.  He was a great Batman.  Never as good as the original, but pretty great in his own way...  Soon he became Nightwing again."  Superman swallowed the tears building up in his eyes,"Nightwing was a hero.  No one can deny it."

Batman turned to the fresh dirt that had just covered the vigilantes grave and he pressed a small button, making a gray cylinder place itself on top of the ground and a silhouette of Nightwing popped up, black and almost invisible.

"Goodbye Nightwing."
