"How was the surgery?" Terry asks from the kitchen as I walk towards him.

"Success," I mutter as I settle on the chair kept near the small kitchen table.

"Awesome."

"Where is Mia? I want to talk to her. She seemed upset today and I was so busy with surgery that I couldn't spend a minute with her." Surgeries were minor but still not something a junior could do so I had to attend it as two senior surgeons are on leave.

Terry doesn't reply, he just grins like a little boy who got his favorite candy." "You look happy," I said while he takes the seat across from me.

His smile didn't disappear instead he smiled brighter. "She's an angel," he mutters and I frown.

"Who?"

"Mia," he tells and he immediately gets my attention.

"Mia? Where is she? Did you pick her up as I told you?" I ask.

He cocks his head, holding my gaze and then smiles again. "She's in my office. Working. You know what? I'm her double boss from today. Isn't that wonderful?"

"Double boss?" I grumble, which only provokes more amused smile from him.

"Yeah she's working two jobs from today. One as my baker and then my mini assistant. She's damn good in designing, I mean I knew she had some talent but I didn't expect this much..." I just stare at him as he continues to praise for another five minutes. I frown when I hear the story from Mia quitting from the restaurant to how he offered her the jobs and she moved into his house. Why did she moved out from her house? She could have stayed with me in my house which would make things much better for us.

"I want to talk to her," I muttered as I stood up on my feet.

"Don't disturb her," he drawls with a small smile spreading on his face.

My expression turns hard, my lips turn flatten. "Why?" I murmurs, continuing to glare at him.

I see Terry now holding his coffee, looking at us from across the living room. He turns his attention to the sofa, while I shuffle outside and shut the door behind me. "She's working," he mutters as he straightens his shirt that looks to have needed to be tackled by an iron. The dull, white button-down is missing a button near the top.

"I don't care. I want to talk to my girl."

Behind me, the door chimed again as it came open. My body instantly buzzed with awareness. I stood in the doorway, my dark hair windblown and cheeks brighter from coming through the cold.

She sat on the giant chair of Terry's and stack of papers spread on his desk. She had a pencil on the tip of her fingers, her one palm is resting calmly on the armrests of the leather chair, and she has one leg crossed casually over the other. Her hair is loose, cut in long layers of chocolate silk that frame her shoulders and pour down her back.

She inhaled sharply as she kept her gaze on me and nothing else in the room and stepped inside, letting the door fall shut behind him. Incapable of a single movement, she stared back, not sure what to do. "I wondered if you were hiding in here," I finally said, my tone mild, holding no anger or resentment.

"Hi!" she said, maybe a bit too quickly and definitely too perkily. She slowly pushed back from my desk again and stood up from the seat. She placed the pencil on the papers and then took a step forward. My gaze moved towards her clothes. Her leather pants hugged her long, fit thighs all the way to her calves like a second skin. She wore a sweater which was loose on her.

"Hi," I tell her.

"Hi. How are you? How was the surgery? Are you here to see Terry? What am I saying? Of course you're here to see Terry, since it's, you know, his house and everything. So… I'll just… I mean...I'll be quite."

I grinned, mute to her rambling as I stood there. She closed her eyes and then bites her lips. "Mia," I call her name and she opens her eyes. Her beautiful eyes meets mine. "What do you feel to do now as you know...you got two new jobs?" Her lips turn into a bright grin.

"I don't know," she muttered, breathing heavily.

I smile as I opened my arms for her. She frowned, her eyes narrowing as she looked me up and down. "Come on Mia, I expected you to jump into my arms the second you saw me," I tease her, she then smiles again and then steps towards me hesitantly.

When she reaches near me as she wraps her arms around my neck, she eases in closer before pressing a small kiss on my cheek. Her lips are so fucking soft. Instincts take over, and I reach up and stroke her cheek, slowly pushing my hand into her hair. Every strand feels like it's made of silk, and she leans into my touch, making it easier for me to lean forward and kiss her temple.

"Let's feed you," I whisper as I pick her up in my arms. She squeak, her eyes going wide but I didn't stop. I walked towards the hall with my girl in my arms. I see Terry smiling at us as I settled on the couch with Mia in my lap. "Do you mind having this idiot here?" I ask pointing at Terry who's walking towards me with a plate of pasta in his hands.

"I'm not going anywhere," Terry tells as he sat beside me on the couch. He brings a spoon full of pasta near his mouth and eats it.

"I don't mind," Mia mutters with a chuckle. She opens her mouth and Terry brings another spoon of pasta near her mouth. She eats it and she moans in appreciation.

"So now tell me, why did you not come yesterday?" I ask and her smile immediately vanishes. Tears form in her eyes but she blinks them away.

"I..I.. Dad," she stammers and I notice her shaking slightly. I pull her closer to me and tightens my grip around her. She sighs. "Dad..he didn't want me to go..he took my phone and t-texted you...I swear I didn't know about it."

"I know, baby girl," I console her and she smiles sadly. I know the name 'baby girl' is something that she likes and calling her that can calm her nerves.

"Start from the beginning," Terry ordered with a pout on his lips. Mia chuckles seeing his expression.

"Yeah, I know wanna everything about you," I whisper.

She smiles sadly. "There's nothing much. Mom died when I was almost ten and my dad became an alcoholic after that. He was a bartender but lost his job due to his drinking. He hits me when he's angry and brings his friends home for drinking and playing cards. Few of his friends come into my room at night...they...tried to touch me, " a sob escapes from Mia and I suck in a sharp breathe.

"I never stayed in my house at night. I was so scared at times that I even ran out of the house through the window and hide behind a tree so that they wouldn't find me. I fought every time they came here near, I never let them touch me. I hit one man and my father beat me so hard that I was passed out for two days. The neighbors helped at times but eventually that stopped. I..I lost my scholarship because of dad. He hit the Dean once when he came to my home to give me few books. I was his favorite student but that didn't last for long. I lost my scholarship and I couldn't afford to go to school. I..I don't wanna stay there anymore. I tried...I tried so hard. I work day and night to pay the bills and dad's debt but it never ends." She shrugs her shoulders and then rests her head against my shoulder.

"If I was sick, I suffered in silence, never letting myself be a burden. And if I was hungry, I kept my mouth shut until dad ready to serve food." I didn't utter a word until she completed.

"You don't have to be scared of anyone. I'll be there with you. Forever." Her cheeks blooms a smile as I caressed her hair. She wants to cry but she's holding it within her.

"Why're you dating him? Seriously, why? I'm much better than him," Terry tells, I know he's trying to change the topic and cheer up Mia and it did work. I hear the sound of Mia's laugh, her body shaking.

"Don't forget you're taken," I reply and he stills slightly.

Oh shit!

I shouldn't have brought that up. His relationship with Stacy is a bit messy right now. He feels like he has taken a wrong decision by dating Stacy and well I couldn't disagree with that. I always felt that Stacy is not the woman for Terry but I hoped that everything would work out for them.

Mia must have probably sensed the tension because now it's her turn to change the subject. "I'm hungry," she mutters then opens her mouth again, literally asking Terry to feed her.

Terry smirks as he brings a spoon of pasta near her mouth and then suddenly brings it to his mouth and ear it. Mia makes a sound of protest. "He's so mean. Let's kick him out," she tells and I laugh.

"Hey..this is my house," Terry reminds when Mia hits on his arm.

"Doesn't matter," I mutter as I pull Mia closer to me. She freezes slightly, her cheeks turns red. I lean it to kiss her...but stops when Terry groans.

"No kissing when I'm here," Terry shouts, raising his hands in air. Mia laughs and then kisses me on my lips and I happily kiss her back.

"Gross," Terry mutters before walking away leaving us alone.

After dinner, Mia slept in my arms and I took her to my room upstairs and placed her on the bed. She moaned in sleep when I kissed her forehead. Then I went back to the hall to talk to Terry. He was sitting on the couch watching Rugby in TV. He's a huge fan of Rubgy while I'm truly a football fan.

I sat beside him. "Why did you offer jobs to Mia?"

"Because I needed help," he replies and I roll my eyes.

"Terry, I know you needed help but you weren't so helpless to hire someone without any proper qualifications. There are numerous agents who're ready to bake for you anytime you want," I drawl and he gives me a meaningful smile.

"You got me there. I saw Mia quitting and I knew she needed a job. I offered her the job of baking because I heard from Troy that she bakes and is very good in that. You know if Troy has to praise someone then it really must be the best. You were right when you said I can get any bakers but I wanted to give it to her. She needed job and I needed help. Problem solved." I smile. He really likes Mia otherwise he would have never offered her a job without any promise.

"What about designing?"

He frowns. "That was clearly a coincidence. I didn't expect her to know designing and be so good in that. Hell, I didn't even know that her major was Fashion Designing." I nod my head satisfied with his answer.

He turns towards me, his eyes narrowed. "Did you see the bruise on her face?" he asks and I nod my head.

"I gonna handle it in my own way," I reply and I really mean it. I'm not gonna let that bastards go after hurting my girl.

"You really have it for her, ain't you?" Terry asks and I chuckle. I didn't have to answer that, he knew the answer for that.
