1.ROHINI AGARWAL

I removed my gloves covered with blood and threw it in the bin nearby. I still remember my first time, it's truly said the first time is always the hardest. You literally feel every fiber of your body screaming to leave your weapons and run home. But then you remember the fear in the eyes of the person, the trust people have placed upon you and above all remember this is your dream.

With these memories I turned the corner to meet the people who are waiting for me anxiously, now this is  the part which I love the most in my job. The thickness of the blanket of tension was so high literally quenching out the breathe in every occupant of the room. The eyes filled with experience of years, the wrinkles which were accumulated with waves of time, the ashen face resembling a ghostly look, an anxiousness that made me tremble, she came forward and took hold of hands surpassing her acquaintances who were still filled with youth, comparatively.

"How is he?" Her voice so much levelled and masked from emotions that was swirling inside her existence, but I was far more experienced to be fooled in this matter.

I squeezed her hand, both hands as cool as ice, mine due to the surgical scrub and her's due to her tension, "The surgery was quite successful, he will be kept in observation for two days. He will wake up in 4 to 16 hours from now. You will be informed, you can visit once he gains consciousness." The relief spreading through her face was what makes the 8 hours of surgery stress relive from my body, the happiness and calmness that marred her features bringing back a red hue on her face, a blush, a glow which makes you younger due to the happiness that you feel. Sometimes I wonder how powerful is the bond of matrimony that this much of changes can be brought in the news of the well being of your beloved.

"Alhamdhulillahi MashaAllah ThabarakAllah" she whispered underneath her breathe. Now this, I really don't know, working as a surgeon for around 2 years and making a name of my own in this excessively competitive field, I have come across many religions and beliefs, I have literally seen the changes faith in God brings out on both the patients and their families. Which foreby  is beyond my comprehension, the power of God.

"Thankyou Doctor, Khuda aapko barkat day(May God bless you)." the lady thanked me giving me blessings and engulfing me in a hug. I felt her visibly relaxing in the hug, I felt myself sigh. Actually this hug is not a quite normal thing for me, today was an exception mainly because this was the last surgery for the day and the fact that I'm on leave from tomorrow onwards.

"Dr.Agarwal!" I broke apart from the embrace and turned to see one of my interns coming with some papers.

"Take care." I said to the lady while gesturing for my assistant to take it further and started walking to the intern, this year I got only 4 interns mainly due to my workload and I'm thinking of moving to another hospital in Netherlands. The last thing I want to do is spoil someone's life by not giving enough attention to them.

"Can't this wait till I reach the station?" I asked while taking the papers from his hand, I checked the list of posting for all the days of my absence. I knew for a fact, this was not why this guy is standing in front of me.

Oh come on! I was also an intern once.

"Spit it out!" I said while wearing my coat which he oh-so-dearly brought for me.

A childish grin came up on his young features, I won't call him handsome preferably cute. I thought internally.

He started scratching the back of his neck, a tell tale of mischievnous. "Dr. can you by any chance  change this list a bit, just a tiny bit so that I can work with Arohi?"

Eventhough I wanted to laugh at his antics, I couldn't possibly do so. Now many of you may think why is an intern speaking to a superior like this, eventhough I'm a strict person professionally outside the professional barriers I always try to be a friend for my subordinates, sure there are times when I scream at them, but I do try. Internship is no easy job.

"No, I mean it. Concentrate on your work, this is the actual time you will ever get to learn before a scalpel is placed on your hand. Don't spoil it with this type of behavior. Do it when you have an actual paying job." I said while going through the list again to not let them have the same posting. When life is hard humans have this tendency to go behind distractions.

"Mam but...." He said while remotely distracted by his thoughts. But all it took was my single glare to actually stop him.

"Dr.Anirudh Varma will be leading you guys. Are we clear?" I told in my no nonsense tone.

"Yes Dr. Have a nice vacation." He said while taking back the signed papers from my hand and I entered the changing room.

After changing my clothes, I closed my locker while switching on my mobile. I had some messages and a missed call from both Mom and Dad. The surgery took an extra hour than planned. I reached the station and finger punched into the machine hence logging out.

"Dr.Rohini, take one." Dr.Anirudh said while passing me a box of sweets.

"What is the occasion Anirudh?" He is one of those close friends of mine, so it was really okay to call him by name.

"I'm a proud uncle of a boy and a girl as of now." He exclaimed.

"Tell my regards to Arundhathi. I'll surely visit her once I come back." I said with a smile taking a sweet.

"Sure and don't worry about your interns I'll take care of them. But I can never vouch for my temper." of course! Even though he is quite and sweet guy personally but as a professional he is quite scary.

"I'll be on my way then. Bye! And thank Leah for the dresses she designed, my family is still in awe for them." I said my parting words and left my safe place oblivious to the storm that is coming my way.
