|BE THERE|

Baylor and I finally left the library after sitting in there the entire duration of our first class.

I followed Harley to her second class, which judging from the fractions and formulas on the chalk board, was math class, or more specifically, calculus. Harley quickly sat down in the back, and huddled herself into the desk as if she were trying to be as small as possible.

Other students filed in, none acknowledged her, although she didn't make an effort to make herself known.

I noticed one earphone was tucked in her ear under her hair.

The teacher was a tall older man, maybe mid sixties. He didn't appear to be very interesting, or nice for that matter. He passed out a piece of paper to every student.

"Complete this worksheet; we'll go over it in thirty minutes or so." He said. His voice was very monotoned, so I was right about him not being interesting. After he sat down at his desk, Harley pulled out a pencil from her backpack.

She started working on the paper, which was covered in long word problems I didn't bother reading. Harley worked through them quickly though, and she had finished the entire paper within ten minutes.

She put her head down on the desk.

The teacher noticed, and stood from his desk. He stalked over toward her quietly, with an angry look on his face. "Ms. Jamison?" He said.

Other students began to turn their heads to see the action. Harley still didn't budge, I don't think she could hear him.

"Ms.Jamison." He said louder, this time placing a hand on her shoulder.

His touch startled her and she sat up quickly, removing the earphones from her ears. She looked up to him, as other students giggled.

"Ms. Jamison, I'm sorry my work doesn't interest you, but you still have to complete it." He said sarcastically.

"I did complete it." She said casually.

"Impossible, you've only had it for ten minutes." He said, removing it from under her arms.

He looked over it quickly; his smug look fell from his face. He wasn't expecting her to really be finished with it.

He handed the paper back to her. "You seem to know what you're doing Ms. Jamison, but earphones are still against the rules. I'm going to have to ask you to give them to me."

Harley sighed and placed the cords into his outstretched hand after unplugging them from her phone.

"Did she get all the answers right?" I asked Josiah.

"Yes." He answered from behind me.

"Wow."

"You were actually very smart, Harley. You had straight A's."

"Really?" Finally some good news about the old Harley. "I guess that's what happens when you spend all your time in the library."

"Your school work kept your mind off of things, so you threw yourself into it. Baylor, on the other hand, enjoyed sports." Josiah informed me.

We skipped ahead to the afternoon. We were sitting on the bleachers at what appeared to be soccer practice. Several teenage boys packed the field, all chasing a soccer ball. Half of them were shirtless, I assume they were playing "shirts vs. skins".

Baylor's messy hair was easy to spot, but the rest of the boys were unrecognizable.

Harley wasn't interested in the scrimmage game at all. She was just waiting on her ride. She held an open book in her hand, doing her best to tune out the teenage laughs and cheers.

Off to the side of the field was a group of cheerleaders who were also practicing. It's funny how completely wrong I was. Just weeks ago I was convinced I was this popular, beautiful cheerleader, but I was really just a lonely, friendless loser. I almost laughed at how stupid I was, but the sight of the girl at the top of the pyramid stifled it. I sprung from my seat.

"No way." I whispered to myself, then joined them on the field.

"It can't be." I said, after getting a closer look.

"What is it?" Josiah asked. He had followed me.

"That's her! That's the girl from the picture in the hallway, and from the yearbook. That's her!" I didn't know if I should be excited or disappointed, perhaps both would be appropriate.

Josiah seemed confused for once, although I'm positive he remembers the picture.

"That's the girl I thought was me." I said finally. "That's the blue-eyed, blonde cheerleader I though was me." I repeated, laughing out loud.

My laugher grew uncontrollable as I rolled around in the grass. Even Josiah chuckled with me.

"Harley, why is that so funny?" He finally asked as I began to calm down.

"It's funny because... Well because I'm good. I'm really good at imagining things. Like really good. Can you believe I thought that was me?" I asked pointing up to her. "I mean seriously, I could write books because I have a freaking wild imagination!" My laugher began all over again, I couldn't stop it.

I laughed until my belly ached and tears were falling from my eyes. I know I looked foolish, but who cares? The only person that can see me is Josiah. I can be as foolish as I want, in fact, I've done a pretty good job of it already.

"Harley, are you okay?" Josiah asked cautiously.

"Yes! I'm great Josiah! Just fantastic! I'm a lunatic, a mad woman, nothing is too big for me to imagine!" I danced around in the grass even though I can't dance at all. It felt good, relieving even.

Josiah was at a loss of words. "Well, Harley, I'm glad you're so happy.." he said, ruffling the hair on the back of his head.

"Me too. I needed that laugh."

I watched them from the grass until both practices ended. The cheerleaders gathered their things into big, purple bags, and the soccer players returned their sweaty shirts to their bodies.

One messy haired boy ran towards us with a smile on his face. Baylor looked right at me, smiling into my soul. I swear he can see me, I can feel the loving look he his giving me. Right before he reached my sitting ghost body, a purple skirt blocked my view.

Baylor's arms wrapped around her waist, spinning her in circles as she giggled with delight. He planted her feet back on the ground just before planting a long kiss on her lips.

My heart dropped into my abdomen and was devoured by my curling stomach. "What?!" I screamed. The laugher had left my body all too soon.

"Hey babe." Baylor said to her after finally releasing her.

"No no no..." I repeated to myself several times. I felt like I would puke, although I have no idea what would come up.

"Nice practice, you were looking good out there." The girl said.

Baylor smiled wide, "Was I?"

"I mean your soccer skills were looking good." She said with a flirtatious laugh.

"Oh really?" Baylor asked, tickling her sides.

She squealed.

Josiah was wrong about the memory of my mom being the worst, this was definitely it.

"They're dating!?" I finally asked.

"Yes." Josiah answered. "Her name is Leslie, she's the captain of the cheerleading squad."

"I don't like her." I said.

Josiah looked amused. I decided to ignore him.

"Let's go get dinner tonight." Leslie said after their disgusting giggle fest was over.

"I can't babe." Baylor said.

Yes! I mentally celebrated.

"Why not, don't tell me it's because of Harley." She asked.

He sighed.

"It is isn't it?"

"Look, she's not having a good day today..." Baylor tried.

"Who cares baylor? I'm not having a good day today either. Me and Jessica had an argument earlier, and I wanted to tell you about it." A pouty look covered her face.

"Ugh, I can't tonight babe. I'm sorry, we can talk about it later, maybe tomorrow night?"

"And then tomorrow she'll have another melt down and you'll have to cancel on me again... You know Baylor, she's never going to get better if you keep babying her." Leslie said.

Baylor frowned. "I don't baby her. She's my sister, I have to take care of her."

"It's not your job to take care of her, she needs to be around other people. It's weird that she doesn't talk to anyone but you. You know what people say? I wasn't going to tell you, but I think you need to hear it."

He sighed with frustration. "What do people say Leslie?"

"People say she has a thing for you, like she's obsessed with you or something. It's not normal, Baylor."

"What?! That's insane Leslie." Baylor turned to walk away.

"Wait!" She took his arm, holding him back.

"Leslie, she's my sister. She may have a lot of issues to work through, but that doesn't change the fact that I love her, and I'm going to take care of her."

Leslie crossed her arms, allowing the pout to take over her face once more. "Fine, ignore me, I don't care. I'm tired of trying with you."

Baylor snatched his hand away from her. "Whatever Leslie." He started off in a fast paced stride towards the oblivious Harley.

Yes! He chose me!

"Did they break up?" I asked, hopeful.

"No, they work it out over text messages later tonight." Josiah answered.

I pursed my lips. Darn it.

Josiah didn't have anything to add apparently because he was quiet after that.

I predict a lot of drama in my next memories.
