Let's Start With the Basics
Damian got up at 5 and opened the top drawer, waking Jon up.
"D, it's only 5."
Damian shrugged. "This is when I start training."
Jon sat up from his top bunk. "You can sleep in, you know."
Damian was kind of tired. He shifted his weight in thought. "You're not wrong." He said, crawling back under the covers. "See you at 7."
"9"
"Fine- 8 am- precisely."
Jon laughed lightly. "Sounds good."
---
They woke up at 8 am exactly and got dressed. Jon jumped down most of the stairs.
"'morning, mom!" Jon shouted, jumping over the railing. Lois turned around from the stove and put her hand on her hip, holding a spatula.
"Jon-"
Jon laughed. "I know. I'll walk down the stairs next time."
Mrs. Kent smiled. "Good morning, Damian." She flipped a pancake. "Do you want blueberries or chocolate chips?"
Damian shrugged. Jon whispered into his ear. "Chocolate chips."
Damian laughed. "Chocolate."
He relaxed and sat down at the kitchen table across from Jon. "Can I read the newspaper?" Damian asked.
Mrs. Kent smiled. "Of course. In fact I encourage reading." She said, looking at Jon.
Jon smiled. "D, can I read the comics?"
Damian handed a folded set of newsprint to Jon. "Here."
"Yes!" Jon cheered. He opened the pages. "Hey D,"
"What?"
"What if someone wrote a comic about US?"
"Don't be weird." Damian said.
"Boys, I will be back around 5 tonight. The usual rules apply, Jon."
Jon smiled. "Yep!"
---
After breakfast, the boys got dressed. Damian put on shorts and a t-shirt. Jon wore a pair of jeans and a casual buttoned shirt.
"Jon, we're training. Why don't you put on a t-shirt?"
Jon shrugged. "So I don't have to put on sunscreen."
Damian sighed. "Okay."
They walked out to the front yard.
Jon stretched. "So what are we doing?"
"What are you doing?"
"Stretching?"
"No." Damian said, pinching the bridge of his nose. "What do you want to do for drills?"
"Oh." Jon thought. "I don't know." He shrugged.
Damian sighed. "Well can you fly?"
"No- but-" Jon said. "I can LEVITATE." He said proudly, hovering an inch above the grass. Damian frowned.
"Wow. I guess you'll never step in puddles now."
Jon dropped back to the ground. Damian sighed. "What else can you do?"
"Freeze breath? Laser eyes? Sometimes I can jump really high."
"Hmm." Damian thought. "Are you bulletproof?"
Jon's eyes widened. "Please don't shoot me."
Damian laughed. "Of course not... yet." He looked at Jon. "Let's start with the basics."
