Chapter Fifteen

A/N: Sorry it's been a while! I'm back though!  You can't get rid of me yet :P

Finch's POV:

We stood outside Weasel's place. He was taunting us and I clenched my fist in annoyance.

"The sun is out, the birds are singing!" he waved his arm dramatically at the sky. "It's a beautiful day to crack some heads. Ain't it?"

Jack faced us with crossed arms, barely containing his anger. Weasel chuckled.

"Step right up and get your papers," a group of boys walked over with their bags. "Are you workin' or trespassin'?" Weasel asked us.

"What's your pleasure?" Oscar asked. I wasn't sure if he was talking to us or the new boys.

"Who are they?" David asked.

"Scabs!" I said disgusted and spat at the ground.

The scabs grabbed their papes while the newsies were shouting in anger.

"Oh, they think they can just waltz in 'ere and take our jobs?" Race exclaimed. He took his cigar out of his mouth and I knew he was angry. Race almost never took out his cigar.

Meanwhile, one of the scabs smirked and tipped his hat at us. As if daring us to do something about it.

"We can handle 'em," Crutchie said and limped towards them.

"Let's soak 'em!" Romeo yelled and the newsies began to charge.

"No!" Davey exclaimed.

"That's what theys want!" I yelled and I realized all eyes were on me. "Theyse tries to get us to fights each other! Wese has to stick togetha or we ain't gotta chance!"

I didn't know what else to say so I looked to Jack. He nodded and went up to the boys.

"Fellas," he sighed. "I know someone put youse up to this and probly paid ya some extra money too. Yeah, well it ain't right."

All of the newsies nodded in agreement.

Jack looked like he was about to cry, "It ain't just about us! Across New York they are boys," he looked at me, "and girls who should be out playin' or goin' to school but they're workin' to support themselves and their families."

He took a deep breath and I broke in, "Ain't no crime to bein' poor!"

Jack nodded, "We don't complain if the work is hard. All wese ask for is a square deal! So for the sake of all the kids in New York, I beg youse throw down your papes, and join the strike."

One of the scabs ran up to Jack and I stepped in front of Les.

But to my surprise he threw down his papes. Soon, every scab did. And we were shouting, "strike!" as loud as we could. Papes were ripped thrown everywhere, it was really loud.

"Boys!" I noticed Mr. Denton waving his hand with a camera.

We lined up together for a picture, I put Les on my shoulders and smiled brightly. With a flash of blinding light, the picture was taken.

But the fun didn't last, I don't remember who yelled it, but it made us all freeze, filled with silent terror.

"It's the bulls!"

They were beginning to surround us on all sides so we split up.

"Crutchie, run for it!" I heard Race yell.

I looked over my shoulder and saw him trying to catch up to us, and realized one heartbreaking truth, he'd never make it.

The Delanceys stepped in front of him, blocking his way.

"Hey fellas! Wait for me!" he cried desperately.

I slid to a stop and felt sick as I watched them push him around.

"Davey! Jack! Finch! Help me!" tears were almost in his eyes. Finch, he was calling for me.
