Chapter 5.

"Mom?" Emily cautiously walked inside the room only to see her asleep by her grandma's bedside.
Emily smiled and used her jacket as a blanket to cover up her mom.

"Why did you marry him mom?"
Emily sighed and left after leaving her a note that she went back home.

As Emily walked back home she began to think of all the good times before Kade came along.

Flashback

"Mommy!Mommy! Look!" A six year old Emily yelled.
Rachel walked over to her daughter with the cotton candy she had just bought her.
"I'm flying a kite! Look!" Emily let go of the stick and string she was holding to point at the kite high up in the sky but this caused the kite to fly off into a nearby tree.

"Aaah! My kite!"
"Hop on my back, we'll get it faster that way!" Emily's mom said leaning down for young Emily to hop on her back.

They raced the kite to the tree till an exited Emily yelled: "I got it!" As she grabbed on to the string from her mom's back but the kite itself still crashed into the tree.

"Nooo!" Emily groaned and pouted in disappointment.
"Don't worry Em, we have another one in the car."
"But I want that one!" Emily cried.

"Now what's this? A young strong lady should never cry!"
"Grandma!" Emily's frown turned upside down in no time.

Grandma Alice smiled as grandpa Joe helped Emily get down from her mother's back.

"Now why don't you climb up there and get your orange kite back?"
"It's orange and green! It also has a white bow on it with my name!" Emily described her kite fondly.

"Mom, climbing is dangerous, we'll just get her another one..." Rachel tried to persuade her mother.

"Oh nonsense. I'm in my 70's and yet I still go hiking, I'll teach her how to climb!"

She walked over to Emily and guided her over to the tree.
"Now, you see that branch closest to you? Walk as far up as you can on the roots of the tree then put one foot on the tree trunk and kick off so you can jump up higher and reach that branch!"

Emily tried and missed by inches so she tried again 5 more times before giving up.
"I'll never reach it! I'm too short!"
"Well not with that attitude you won't!" Grandma Alice shot back.

"Ah, the kid just needs some motivation!" Grandpa Joe said kneeling down to Emily's height.

"You see your mom over there?"
Emily looked at her mom talking to a complete stranger as though they had been best friends forever.
"Yeah?"
"What's she holding?"
Emily's eyes went wide as she noticed what was in her hand.
"Cotton candy!!!" She yelled happily.

"Exactly. If you get up in that tree you get that really huge cotton candy all to yourself! No sharing required!"
Emily smiled from ear to ear at this.

Within the next 2 minutes she was climbing up the tree like a pro.

End of flashback

Emily smiled fondly at the memory as she passed by the cemetery.
She glanced over in the general direction of grandpa Joe's grave.

"It should have been me..." She whispered.

What the what!?
Any ships so far?
"It should have been me" what do you think our dear Em meant by that?
What's that?
I'm the author and I should know? Well duh!
But I'm not telling you just yet because I'm evil!
So read on young padwan!!!
