Never Say Never
It has been three days since the official naming of Rebecca and Holly. Alicia was recovering very well, and they were able to go home after three days in the hospital. Now, all five of them were home. Yes, five. Ollie, Alicia, Holly, Rebecca, and Tobbi. Ollie has finally finished the robo-dog, named it, and used it as a "welcome home" present for the kids. Alicia loved it, and the white-furred creature was soon a full member of the family.
Tobbi was a name that he and Alicia agreed on. Ollie liked the name and thought that Toby was fun for a dog, but Alicia liked unique names. So, she mixed up the spelling and they got Tobbi. Ollie thought it was perfect.
The twins seemed to like Tobbi too. It was great, just how he planned it to be. It protected them and played with them, and was soft and babies love soft things. Tobbi seemed to like the babies too, always giving them Eskimo kisses and sleeping around them. It even sometimes sang. It had a voice-box for that specific purpose, but Ollie didn't expect that to work. When it sang, it was only tunes that sounded like they were being played on a piano.
Currently, the white robo-dog was watching over the sleeping twins. Yes, they slept in the same room as Ollie and Alicia, but the couple liked taking precautions. They hadn't heard from the gang in a while, and they were starting to relax again. Maybe they wouldn't be coming, and maybe Alicia and Ollie would get to live a normal life with their daughters.
But maybe wasn't enough.
Ollie closed his journal and tucked it away into his desk. He stood from his chair, stretched with a yawn, and made his way to the bedroom. The house was very quiet at night. It always was. But, for once, Ollie didn't mind the quiet. It was always nerve racking for him in the past and made him on edge, but this time it was peaceful. This time he liked the quiet as he went down the hall to look at all the pictures and paintings they had.
The raven gave Tobbi a small pat on the head as he walked back down the hall and into the bedroom. Tobbi's ears perked up, then it's eyes opened. Usually it would give a small bark of acknowledgment to Ollie, or a small nod when it was on duty. But this time wasn't usual. When Tobbi opened it's mouth, it didn't close. The small house was flooded with loud barking and howling of alarm.
Ollie tried to shut it up, but Tobbi kept making noise. The commotion woke the twins, and they started crying, adding to the chaos. Alicia woke up last, panicked as she sprung into action to calm down the babies and Ollie tried to get Tobbi to stop barking.
Then something else came and stopped the noise. Three loud and rhythmic bangs in the door.
Everyone got dead silent as they waited. Ollie and Alicia exchanges terrified glances, knowing very well what was happening and who was at the door. The twins whines softly and tried to hide. Tobbi stood in front of their crib to protect them, even though it's tail was between it's legs and it's legs were shaking. Still, everyone waited.
"We know you're in there."
Waiting.
"Open the door, pal."
Waiting.
"Okay, we'll just do it for you."
No more time to wait. There was a loud crash as the door broke down, it's shattered pieces going all over the living room and breaking more things.
Ollie pushed Alicia back and told her to crouch next to the bed with Holly and hide as best as she could. The horror in her eyes were enough to let him know he needed to act fast.
There was stomping. Everywhere in the house there was stomping. The intruders were searching the house for the couple, and doors were heard slamming open, paintings and pictures were torn from the walls, and furniture was kicked over until finally the bedroom door was flung open. Ollie stood in the center of the room, with a whimpering and frightened baby girl in his arms.
The tall dirty-blond was in the front. He pushed in, standing beside the door as the short red-head with the eyepatch approached. Men flooded into the room and went around, covering half of the room's wall space. It seemed like so many because of how large some of them were, but there were only five. Ollie held eye contact with the redhead and concealed his fear well as he stepped up.
"Well, well, well. Look at you, Oliver. Ready to give up this baby?" The redhead asked, a malicious smirk coming to his face as he examined Rebecca.
Ollie instinctively pulled her closer. He didn't answer. He couldn't answer. He wasn't ready, but he knew he needed to do this. He didn't say a word as the redhead shifted his eye to him.
"Not talking, eh? Jonathan. Take the kid, I'll deal with Oliver's uncooperative attitude."
The dirty-blond moved forward. Ollie's eyes shifted to him, and he fought the urge to run out the door with Rebecca. The lanky man grabbed the baby girl, and she began to cry again. The dirty-blond made a face of disgust as he yanked her from Ollie and took her back to where he stood. The raven could do nothing as his daughter screamed and sobbed for him in the corner.
"Awh, does Oliver not like to hear babies cry? That didn't seem to be the case all those years ago. You loved this sound." The redhead teased, his smirk never fading. "You have gone soft, Oliver. How 'bout I make you even softer."
The red headed man pulled a pistol from his pocket. Of course he had a pistol in his pocket. He chuckled lowly as he aimed the gun for Ollie's arm. It sure would hurt, but it wouldn't kill him. How perfect.
"Stop!"
Everyone paused. No, everything paused. It seemed like the world had ceased it's rotation on that command. Ollie turned his head to see who had made such an event happen.
Alicia had stood from her hiding spot, a scared Holly shielded in her arms. Tears were streaming down her face. She wouldn't let anyone hurt her husband.
"Ali, I told you to stay down!" Ollie yelled. Now the plan was ruined, all because she was worried he'd get hurt. His wife's panicked eyes returned. She had made an awful mistake.
"You held out on us, Oliver." The redhead said. His eye was locked on to Holly now, and she squirmed and whimpered under his gaze.
There was a loud bang as the short man pulled the trigger. Ollie screamed, falling to his knees and grabbing his arm. The noises started again as Alicia yelled in distress for her husband and for her baby getting pulled away from her. Holly started screaming and crying with Rebecca. Tobbi started barking again as it lunged for the red headed man who hurt it's owner. The redhead simply shot it too, and it fell back, going limp as wires and metal parts fell out of it's head with a few clanks.
There was so much noise. Too much noise. The men started to leave and their snickering filled the house. More things to attack Ollie's ringing ears. He wished everything would just stop. He wished the searing pain in his arm to stop, the deafening ringing in his ears to stop, for the world to just stop. And for once, Ollie's pleas were answered. Everything slowly went black as he sunk to the floor, dark red making a small pool on the floor and staining the white carpet scarlet.
Everything finally stopped.
