AUTHOR'S NOTE

Greetings and welcome to Flux Form, folks!

Another ONC season is upon us and this time, I've decided to switch genres and try my hand at science fiction. It's always been one of my favourite genres to work with and just to get lost in while reading.

Recently, I had stumbled upon All Tomorrows by C. M. Kösemen, which is a spectacular speculative evolution project featuring our post-human descendants following millions of years of evolution. It's a very entertaining thought experiment and I highly recommend reading it.

Long story short, inspiration hit me harder than a Japanese delivery truck sending a teenager into a fantasy realm.

So this year, I'm doing a little piece on an extraterrestrial mimic, a creature that can sample any living organism (provided they're bigger than an amoeba) and modify itself phenotypically and genetically to resemble it.

It takes inspiration from the D&D mimic.

Or from this lovely symbiote (I love them to bits)

Or more like this. This is ferrofluid, it's ferromagnetic and it spikes up or changes form when exposed to a magnet. They also float on superconductors like blobs of water in zero gravity. Cool stuff.

Shapeshifters are always challenging to work with, especially if it's an alien one. The major road-blocks I have in my attempt are those presented by my very limited human and earth-bound perspectives. Then again, challenges temper us. They're also absolutely fun to take on hahaha.

Which is why I'm doing two of them. My second entry will be a fantasy novella featuring two master trickster spirits from two Asian cultures. It's titled Upon Wings Of Stone and it's still under construction.

I have no idea how I'm going to finish the two of them to be honest, considering my last ONC entry was abandoned halway through.
Then again, these are ideas worth chasing and writing. 😚

I can't wait for you guys to join our inteprid interstellar impersonator on its exciting new journey across Earth. It's very confused, but it's got the spirit.
