The Bunny Cafe
The few weeks after they opened, a bunch of children were going past the Bunny Cafe, all around four and five years old. One kid stood out from the rest, digging his heels in, and refusing to budge.
The teacher was really trying her best to get him to move, but he was absolutely stuck there, as if he had superglued himself to the pavement.
Wei Ying noticed them and came outside to check what was going on.
"May I help you?" He asked, looking at them both.
The kid was so cute in a mini high-viz jacket, and looking ever so serious as he peered into the cafe.
"He won't move, and the others have gone on ahead." The lady tells him, desperately.
She points to a group of children getting further away than where she was.
"Hello, little man." Wei Ying crouches down and smiles at the kid. "How can I help you?"
He's really too cute…and reminds him of a bunny.
"My name is A-Yuan." He says. "Please may I touch the bunnies?"
He's very polite for a child, and Wei Ying is instantly charmed by him.
"Okay, let's make a deal, okay?" He says gently.
The cutest kid nods, fully trusting him.
"What if I let you hold Chonk for two minutes? Will you go and join your friends then? Otherwise you're going to get your teacher into a lot of trouble."
"Who's Chonk?" The kid asks him, trying to look into the cafe around Wei Ying’s shoulders, even tiptoeing to see properly.
"Chonk is my bestest friend, and the nicest one out of all the bunnies. He loves little kids."
Wei Ying glances up at the teacher, who is making cow eyes at him, hoping A-Yuan will agree. She pulls out her phone and makes a call, and Wei Ying hears her telling her colleague that she and the kid will be along shortly.
"Yes, please." The kid says, his gray eyes already shining with anticipation.
Wei Ying hurries back inside.
"What are you doing?" Jiang Cheng asks, pulling out a batch of quadruple chocolate chip cookies baked in the shape of a really cute bunny.
"That kid won't leave until he pets a bunny." Wei Ying throws him his most charming smile. "I'm getting Chonk."
Jiang Cheng rolls his eyes and puts another batch in to bake.
He remembered when Wei Ying had come up with his plan, a few weeks ago.
"We need a gimmick." He had insisted. "Otherwise no one will come. And everyone loves bunnies."
Jiang Cheng had joined him only because Wei Ying was stubborn like that, and once he got an idea in that crazy head of his, there was no stopping him.
Customers were slowly increasing as word of mouth publicity began to spread, and their ShiJie's trademark chocolate desserts were selling out by the evening. They were going to invest in a bigger refrigerator to store extra stock now, because sales were so good.
He grudgingly admitted to himself (not out loud because then, he'd never hear the end of it!), that most of their success was due to his brother, who could turn on the charm like a tap, both with their furry friends and the customers. Now it was a tie on who brought the most custom into the shop: the bunnies or Wei Ying.
Jiang Cheng had to be reminded to smile now and again; it was easy to forget they weren't at home.
The vibes in the cafe were extremely relaxed and chill, a perfect environment for their super friendly bunnies.
Customers would enter for a quick tea break and end up staying for an hour. Wen PoPo had started like that, and somehow she ended up in the kitchen, washing dishes and generally cleaning.
She still hadn't left after two weeks, and they still hadn't started paying her, well, not in money at least. They made sure she had tea regularly and lunch everyday.
She made sure they all took breaks and took over their duties if they hadn't. Jiang Cheng rather liked her no nonsense approach. Wen PoPo was motherly in a way that somehow, they all needed her to be.
When they had brought up the subject of paying her, she had frowned and smacked their wrists with a wet dish towel. They were too scared to bring it up again.
She also helped them with looking after the bunnies.
There were twenty in all, and Wei Ying knew all their names, their personalities and what each one loved the most as a treat. For example, Chonk loved cilantro the best, Tofu liked strawberries in a mad crazy way, and Noodle loved carrots.
MianMian worked there part time as a waitress, but as with everyone else, no one's duties were carved in stone; they all helped out as and where it was needed.
Wei Ying hurries outside with the biggest black bunny they own. He has a red collar with black studs, and when Jiang Cheng had raised a brow at that, Wei Ying had replied that the bunny was a secret metal head and should be left alone.
Chonk loves everyone…except Jiang Cheng.
Chonk has bitten Jiang Cheng the exact amount of times he's tried to feed him, and since it's happened every time they were alone, no one believes him. Chonk is remarkably clever like that.
Jiang Cheng watches as Chonk goes into the child's arms willingly.
That traitorous little shi - the phone rings, and Jiang Cheng has to answer it.
Outside, Wei Ying watches as A-Yuan's face transforms into one of rapturous delight. His beautiful gray eyes are shining with that kind of terrified excitement which only lives in the hearts of children. He's even holding his breath as Wei Ying shows him how to stroke Chonk, and he's brought a sprig of cilantro for the little boy to feed the soft and gentle bunny.
Wei Ying smiles at the way the kid's hand trembles and the sheer joy on his face.
"Please…we need to go now." His teacher is saying.
A-Yuan pouts.
And then, his bottom lip comes out.
His lovely eyes are full of tears.
"Wait, wait! Hold up." Wei Ying quickly says, glancing apologetically at the lady. "A-Yuan…I have a great idea! Why don't I give you a card for this cafe? And then you can give it to your Baba and he can bring you one day. One day, when it's not a school day." He adds quickly. "You don’t want to get your miss in trouble, right?"
Thankfully, A-Yuan nods, agreeing with his suggestion, albeit tearfully.
"Okay, so say to Chonk, see you soon. Not goodbye, because you're coming back, right?" Wei Ying coaxes, hoping the kid stops crying because those tears may look harmless, but each one that falls, scrapes at his heart in the most painful way.
"Okay, please wait while I get you the card." Wei Ying tells him. He makes sure the teacher stays put, as he returns inside the cafe.
When he comes back, he's got two cookies for them and two cards, because business is business and hopefully the lady will want to return, too.
"Now, A-Yuan…let's put this somewhere safe, alright?" Wei Ying tells him.
The kid - how can a little person be this cute?? - carefully opens the little side pocket on his backpack with his chubby little fingers and he has the sweetest little dimples in his fists. And, he's still so adorably cutely serious.
"I will tell my A-Die about you. We will come tomorrow." He promises. And then he says, "what's your name?"
"You can call me Xian-Gege." Wei Ying tells him, absolutely captivated by this charming little fellow.
"Xian-Gege…please…may I hug you? A-Die says I have to ask, because everyone might not like hugs." For the first time, A-Yuan looks uncertain.
"Well…lucky for you, I love hugs. And I'm so good at giving them, I have a certificate to prove it. I'm the professor of hugs." Wei Ying giggles at the expression of awe on the kid's face.
"Pwofesser?" A-Yuan asks, before wrapping his chubby arms around Wei Ying’s neck. "Thank you for bringing Chonk." He adds, shyly kissing Wei Ying’s cheek.
Wei Ying wants to clutch at his heart, because he is the victim of daylight robbery. This little bandit has stolen his heart and what else is he supposed to do? So he hugs him again, and says, "that was an awesome hug, Pal. In fact, you're better than me. You are the Captain of hugs." He tells the little kid, who puffs out his chest proudly.
"Okay…we really must get going now, A-Yuan!" His teacher says.
Wei Ying ruffles his hair and waves all the way until he can no longer see the utterly adorable child any more.
He goes back inside and steals another cookie.
Jiang Cheng scowls in his general direction.
"Wait a minute!" He counts the cookies and knows there are three missing. He looks up at his brother and narrows his eyes, threateningly. "Wei WuXian! Did you just give away our stock?" He yells. "For free?"
"Chonk made me do it!" Wei Ying defends himself, fully prepared to do a runner if the situation calls for it.
Jiang Cheng slides across the counter…and Wei Ying scampers off to hide behind Wen PoPo.
***********
Wei Ying knew the kid might not make it on the next day, because parents were busy people, and no one had time to indulge in whatever their kids wanted, regardless of how cute said kid was…
They opened up as normal at ten in the morning, and Wei Ying went through his whole routine of recleaning all the tables and chairs, and the floor. This had been done the night before, but when they had animals and food in the same environment, they had to be careful.
They were busier than usual and the time flew by in the blink of an eye.
It's past five o'clock, when Wei Ying hears a familiar voice.
"Xian-Gege! Xian-Gege! I brought my A-Die!"
Wei Ying turns around in delight, remembering the super cute kid, and he comes face to face with the most gorgeous specimen of the human race.
This man has pure golden eyes, which are a mix of suspicion and intrigue, as they check out both him and the cafe. He's really too beautiful.
But…icy.
That's the first impression Wei Ying gets, and he's kind of daunting. So Wei Ying ignores the rapid beating of his own heart, and crouches down so he can greet A-Yuan properly.
"A-Yuan! You came!" Wei Ying beams at him.
He really is the sweetest child.
He turns to his dad and tugs on their joined hands. It's quite comical, because the kid is two feet of cuteness and his dad is…a full unit. Over six feet of solid muscle and so, so beautiful. He looks like polished jade.
Wei Ying wants to squish those soft cheeks so bad…on both of them, but he makes a superhuman effort not to…that definitely deserves two cookies for his willpower.
"Mn?" The dad says, looking down at his adorable child.
His voice!
Wei Ying wants to swoon like a maiden!
It's so deep, and rich, and turning his insides into mush. It's like holding a bunny but times a hundred. And then, there's that softness in his stunning eyes when he looks at his kid. He might be big, but he's ever so gentle with his child.
This whole interaction is making Wei Ying’s eyes wetter than they should be.
Both of these people are way too adorable.
And, they're both criminals. Thieves, that's what they are, and poor Wei Ying is their chosen victim. It's absolutely unfair, he tells his heart.
"A-Die! Xian-Gege likes hugs. He's a Pwofesser." A-Yuan says, wanting his dad to let go of his hand, and it's his completely serious face that does it for Wei Ying finally.
"Yes, but you my friend, you are a Captain of hugs. That's much higher than a professor. You win!" He says truthfully.
The golden-eyed beauty finally lets go of the tiny hand engulfed in his huge one, and A-Yuan throws himself into Wei Ying's arms.
The boy smells of sandalwood and baby powder…and it's such a wholesome fragrance.
Wei Ying decides then and there, he will do anything to protect this precious kid.
A-Yuan giggles then.
"Why are you laughing, Pal?" Wei Ying leans back to stare into his lovely face.
His gray eyes are shining with excitement and Wei Ying is an absolute puddle.
This is like the Pied Piper magic, but it's in reverse. Wei Ying feels like there's nothing he wouldn't do for this charming little man.
"You can let go now." The deep voiced stranger says.
Wei Ying looks up, a blush forming in his face, and he knows he's resembling one of those glacé cherries his sister loves to decorate their banana splits with. He quickly lets go of the child, and immediately feels bereft.
The handsome man is giving him a strange look, but says nothing else.
"Bunnies, A-Die!" The little kid is trying to pull his dad inside the cafe.
He's immovable, though.
And when he turns his full attention onto Wei Ying, it produces a sudden shiver in him.
"A table for two, please." He says pleasantly, in that wonderful voice of his.
It reminds Wei Ying of smooth, rich, velvety chocolate going down his throat…but well, for his ears, obviously.
And it's the best feeling.
"Of course, please follow me." Wei Ying smiles brightly because he's genuinely feeling really happy, quite out of the blue.
He gives them the table closest to the bunny hub, the name they gave to the rabbit enclosure in the centre of the cafe.
It's the safest place for the bunnies when they get tired, and there's always someone in there, in case the other bunnies are busy "working the floor".
Wei Ying goes and finds Chonk for A-Yuan.
It's still early for the evening rush and so Chonk is free, and happily sniffs A-Yuan's fingers, his nose twitching and hoping for more cilantro.
A-Yuan's face is stuck in perpetual bliss, his beautiful gray eyes wide with innocent wonder as he carefully strokes the back of the bunny. And when Wei Ying looks at his father, he sees the warmest, most tender look on his face.
And then, he turns that golden gaze onto him.
Wei Ying is frozen in place, his blood pleasantly tingling through his whole body. This is nice, he thinks while still in a daze. What is it about these two? They're magnetic in their charms, almost brutal as they unconsciously annihilate his self control.
"Wei Ying." The man reads out his name plate, a bunny shaped pin attached to his top pocket.
Just the way he says Wei Ying’s name…
Wei Ying feels hot all over. No one has the right to be this attractive…and then he gives himself a mental slap. This guy is probably already married…his eyes scoot over to the man's hands.
No rings!
His heart does a happy flip.
But… sometimes, men don't like to wear rings…what if he's married but doesn't like to show it through outward displays of his situation?
Wei Ying frowns.
If he was married, he would like to wear a ring. And he would like his husband to wear one too.
There's a huff of amusement from the stranger, who is holding out his hand towards Wei Ying, waiting.
"Good to know. My name is Lan WangJi…but you may call me Lan Zhan. I see you have already met my son." He says in that same wonderful voice.
Wei Ying would like to hear that voice forever.
He could be reading out statistics and Wei Ying knows, knows that he would be listening with rapture.
Too late, his brain is processing the too much information in the last communication from this beautiful man. He watches his own hand move to hold the much bigger one offered to him. It slides against smooth skin and fits inside as if it was made just for this purpose.
And all of a sudden, all those tiny little tingles that had been humming under his skin burst into life like crackling fireworks, and Wei Ying can only try to tamp down on the sensations.
It feels magical, and he feels so, so alive!
"Lan Zhan…" he breathes out, watching the way those amber orbs widen with surprise.
Lan Zhan wasn't sure what to expect when his son had come home yesterday afternoon, raving about bunnies and 'Xian-Gege', and for a second, he had wondered if this wasn't just a product of a wild imagination.
But then A-Yuan had pulled out the card and shown him that there really was a heaven place with lots of bunnies, and a delightful man, who captivated him from the moment he turned around.
Lan Zhan fell in love.
There was no point hiding it either, not when he was faced with such loveliness.
This man was created by love, and the way his silver eyes danced with sincere happiness…he was a refreshing delight to look at. And when Wei Ying hugged his son?
Lan Zhan hadn't been able to breathe from the conflicting emotions running through his head. He felt endeared to this stranger immediately, because it was so nice to see his son hugging someone all by himself…and even though he was a stranger…it wouldn't be for long.
Lan Zhan made up his mind.
His son was going to have another parent soon.
It was hard being a single parent, though a worthy job. He wasn't complaining, far from it. No…he worried that he wasn't enough for the child.
At times like this, he really missed his mother. Lan Zhan had lost his parents, his mother when he was six, and his father a few years after that. But for a time, he had both. He knew how essential it was for a child to have two parents in their formative years, and he wanted that for his dear A-Yuan. But of course, that meant some kind of active effort on his part…and until now…Lan Zhan hadn't felt in the least bit inclined to search for a partner.
Well, it seemed that the Universe was tired of waiting for him to take that step.
From the way this beauty says his name…and the way those gorgeous silver eyes light up…and how captivating his face becomes when he's embarrassed, the colour that rises to his soft cheeks…
Lan Zhan wonders if they are as soft as they look.
They're still holding hands because it certainly can't be called shaking them in a greeting any more. Neither has been able to look away, either.
MianMian pushes two menus into Wei Ying's hands, and he comes back into his body with a jolt.
"Um…haha…what would you like to order?" He says, the blush deepening on his face.
You…Lan Zhan thinks.
Wei Ying has snatched his hand back and not-run away.
Lan Zhan is already missing him.
He turns to look at his son, who has also fallen in love…with Chonk.
There is such a peaceful smile on his A-Yuan's face right now…Lan Zhan quietly retrieves his phone and snaps a few pictures.
"He looks happy." Wei Ying says, returning a good few minutes later with a tablet to take their order.
Lan Zhan is embarrassed because he still hasn't looked at the menu.
Wei Ying understands and he smiles.
"A-Yuan…it's time to eat. If you are a good boy, and eat everything on your plate, I'll bring Chonk back to you."
This is enough to have the little boy listen to his father on what to eat, and they end up ordering vegan bunny pizzas. The meal is a success until they order dessert.
Jiang YanLi makes these really cute bunny mocchi ice cream rolls, with the cutest tiny red ears.
Lan Zhan cannot eat them.
His ears are already pink because he knows this is irrational…this feeling that they're way too cute to put into his mouth.
"Is everything alright?" Wei Ying asks, concerned.
This is the third time he's walked past, surreptitiously of course, and Lan Zhan hasn't touched his dessert.
A-Yuan is happily tucking into his bunny shaped ice cream. With sprinkles. And the promise of more cuddle time with Chonk.
Lan Zhan nods because he's never actually lied.
But this…he can't.
Wei Ying is still looking at him, and now Lan Zhan feels self-conscious.
"Look…you do this." And then, in the most heartless move, Wei Ying spears a tiny poor bunny with one of the cocktail sticks meant for sharing, and holds it to Lan Zhan’s mouth.
It's no use…he really can't do it.
Wei Ying gasps and drops the round mocchi immediately, because Lan Zhan’s eyes have filled with tears.
Wei Ying quickly hands him a napkin, and then tuts to himself as Lan Zhan seems incapable of actually wiping his own face with it.
Wei Ying has to do it for him.
"A-Die sad?" A-Yuan asks, looking up from his empty bowl.
"Er…" Wei Ying isn't sure how to answer.
Lan Zhan is really upset, it looks like, and then all of a sudden, Lan Zhan blinks away those tears and pulls himself together. He carefully takes the stick out of the bunny's backside and puts it down.
"I shall be paying for the dessert, but I will not be eating it." He says clearly, his golden eyes full of intense determination.
And then something soft lands in his lap.
A-Yuan has gone and collected Suibian, a white fluffy bunny with huge soulful eyes, who is looking at Lan Zhan now, and wondering why no petting has happened yet. So she twitches her nose experimentally and nuzzles into his hand.
Everyone needs a little bit of help now and again, and this is just what Lan Zhan needs, right now.
Wei Ying is amazed at the transformation on Lan Zhan’s face.
All those negative emotions are now replaced by only soft, warm feelings of unconditional love. His big hands dwarf the tiny bunny, but he is infinitely gentle with her. Ever so carefully, as they exchange comforting vibes, both of them relax.
The father and son team stay until closing time.
They don't want to leave.
Wei Ying completely understands and he bounces over to them where they're not quite outside the door yet. He hands them two red bunny lollipops.
"Because it's your first time inside the cafe today, and for being such good boys." He says brightly, his smile matching the sun.
"We will come back tomorrow." Lan Zhan says, firmly.
Wei Ying grins back happily.
"Bring the Mrs too!" MianMian yells, as she begins to stack the chairs on top of the tables.
Two of the three smiles vanish, just like that.
A-Yuan is still ogling his treat.
"Er….yeah…bring everyone." Wei Ying says, but it doesn't sound as enthusiastic as before.
"There isn't one." Lan Zhan says, the hint of a mysterious smile returning to his face.
Only because he can see hope slowly growing in the depths of smoky eyes to go along with the rest of this extremely hot man.
His confidence grows as he bends to whisper directly into Wei Ying's ears.
"I am gay."
Wei Ying smiles fully again.
"Bi…and ever so grateful for that right now." He says shamelessly.
"Then, I look forward to spending more time with you." Lan Zhan replies.
They leave, and Wei Ying clutches at his heart, because the funny feeling in his stomach which had begun since A-Yuan had got here, and was only increasing until now, finally went away.
***************
They kept their promise.
Every day at five in the afternoon, Lan Zhan and A-Yuan would visit the little bunny cafe. All three of them looked forward to this time and as both Lan Zhan and Wei Ying became more comfortable with each other, Wen PoPo began letting him spend his breaks sitting with the little family.
More often than not, they would end up sharing desserts together.
And chatting.
Lan Zhan really looked forward to these hours. They were quickly becoming the most favourite part of his day. He and A-Yuan loved the weekends too, and especially on the days that they didn't visit Grumple and Xiongzhang, they were able to come to the cafe earlier.
He learned that Wei Ying was adopted and the scowling man behind the counter was his younger brother. And then he was able to meet Wei Ying’s sister too, not long after that. They got on better, to the point of sharing recipes and discussing cooking tips.
Wei Ying loved those conversations because then, he could spend unlimited time just staring at Lan Zhan’s face and wondering what it would feel like to kiss him.
Then one day, something quite alarming happened.
A woman stormed in, wearing a red and black power suit, and killer heels. She raised her sunglasses up and used them as a hair band to hold her ebony locks back.
"WEI WUXIAN!" She yelled, marching up to him, because he was the first one to stand up.
"Um…hi?" He says.
And then he can't see anything any more, because a wall of Lan is standing in front of him, glaring at the intruder.
The soft scent of warm sandalwood surrounds him, and Wei Ying feels safe. He rises up on tiptoes to look at the lady.
"No shouting." Lan Zhan tells her. "You're scaring the bunnies." He admonishes her.
She looks around the place for the first time.
Meanwhile, Wei Ying is having some sort of epiphany.
He's never had someone stand up for him quite like this…and it feels good. He feels cared for… in a good way. So he puts his hands on Lan Zhan’s shoulders and tiptoes up to look at the stranger.
Jiang Cheng hears the commotion and comes out to see what's going on. He leaves the safety of the counter and comes to stand by his brother.
"What can we do for you?" He asks her coolly, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Give me back my grandmother!" She hisses, glancing at Lan Zhan to make sure her sound is at an acceptable level.
"NO!" The two brothers shout back.
Lan Zhan glares fully at Jiang Cheng, mostly because he cannot bring himself to glare at Wei Ying.
"She's ours now!" Wei Ying hisses back at her.
This is a new side of Wei Ying that Lan Zhan hasn't seen before.
He…rather likes it.
In fact, he finds it…very hot, indeed.
He tilts his head ever so slightly, and all he can see is a beautiful face…and those plump pink lips right next to him…
"She. Is. Mine." The woman insists, threatening.
"Finders keepers." Jiang Cheng states.
"Good one," Wei Ying compliments him, and they do a quiet fist bump. "No takesie backsies!" He adds.
"Nice," Jiang Cheng tells him, and it's followed by another fist bump.
Wei Ying turns his face to find Lan Zhan rather close…looking at him in a predatory way…sort of like a lion looking at a bunny.
Jiang Cheng is focusing on the angry woman spitting fire at them.
"I want her back." The woman bites out.
Wen PoPo comes out of the kitchen just then, she stands in front of Jiang Cheng as if to protect him.
Both Jiang Cheng and the scary woman stare at her in surprise.
"I'm not a thing, A-Qing. And I may do as I please. Now, would you like some tea? And a bunny?" Wen PoPo says, very calmly.
Wen Qing bursts into tears.
Jiang Cheng turns around to see what Wei Ying thinks, but oh God, he's trapped in a lip lock with the golden-eyed icepick, and he's missed the whole drama happening on this side.
Jiang Cheng throws his hands into the air and returns behind the counter. Jiang YanLi comes out with plates of cakes and makes Wen PoPo sit down with her granddaughter. On her way back, she picks up A-Yuan and ushers both starstruck men into the pantry, where they have some privacy.
Now that he's had a taste, Lan Zhan pushes Wei Ying up against the shelves and this time, he raises a brow. Wei Ying nods, and suddenly they're kissing again.
Wei Ying can feel the silkiest hair between his fingertips, and unconsciously he tugs.
Lan Zhan growls and deepens this kiss, which has been stewing for a long time. Wei Ying feels so warm and pliant in his arms, and Lan Zhan thinks he could kiss him forever. The simmering fireworks which always seem to be burning near the surface explode into life.
Wei Ying sees stars behind his eyelids, because this man can kiss!
Lan Zhan is making him feel all sorts of happy, and he moans, licking into that delectable mouth.
This time when they separate, both of them are breathing hard.
"Tell me that you meant that!" Wei Ying demands.
"I meant that." Lan Zhan said, immediately. "You?"
"Me, too." Wei Ying shoots him the naughtiest grin. "Let's do that again."
There are no arguments from Lan Zhan…
***********
The end….?
No, because I love you guys too much and I thought of something extra cute…

EPILOGUE
One year later…
Jiang Cheng was staring daggers at him.
"ChengCheng! It's gonna be so cute!! Trust me!" Wei Ying repeats it like a mantra. "I just need you to keep a lookout for him." Wei Ying returns to his time-consuming but utterly worth it task.
Jiang Cheng returned to the door.
"It's never gonna work." He mumbled. "Haven't you heard the saying, never work with children or animals?"
"Only positive vibes, Cheng Cheng…" Wei Ying shoots back, concentrating on what he was doing.
Fifteen minutes later, there's a shout from Jiang Cheng, and Wei Ying releases the catch on the bunny enclosure….
***********
Lan Zhan had left A-Yuan with Jiang YanLi and her son, A-Ling, and their three bunnies. He smiled to himself as he remembered the first time they had gone over to ShiJie's home.
A-Yuan had grabbed Wei Ying’s cheeks when he bent down to explain where they were going, and exclaimed, "more bunnies??"
He had been giddy with joy, too much happiness inside him to be contained. Even today, he had waved goodbye and rushed inside to play.
There was also the time when he and A-Yuan couldn't make it to the bunny cafe because A-Yuan had picked up a bug from school which left him bedridden for two days, and he had never been so miserable as that.
Wei Ying had called him and asked why they hadn't come, and when Lan Zhan had explained what had happened, Wei Ying had asked for his address and then promptly brought himself and Chonk over to make A-Yuan feel better.
In Lan Zhan’s opinion, there was no one kinder than Wei Ying, and it was a close tie between him and his Xiongzhang.
And then…there was the disaster of a dinner and meeting Uncle Qiren.
But they got his blessings to date, so that was that…
And now, Lan Zhan was a little worried about why he had been asked to pick Wei Ying up from the cafe at this time, because it was after closing time…however it wasn't the first time, so he didn't question it.
Jiang Cheng turned the sign to closed and tilted his head in greeting, as he left.
Lan Zhan entered…and then stopped.
Right in front of him was a vision.
Wei Ying was wearing a scarlet silk shirt, one that fitted him so well, it left nothing to the imagination…and if that wasn't enough, he had paired it with skin-tight black trousers that were edged in a matching crimson. His top two buttons were undone and his delicious collarbone was on display.
His long hair was tied up in a bun tonight, but cute little wisps had escaped and were framing his face, beautifully flushed…because he was standing in a heart shaped by bunnies.
It lasted for exactly three seconds, enough that Lan Zhan could quickly snap a picture Of him, standing so patiently…waiting.
Waiting for him.
And then…the bunnies moved out of formation.
And it was chaos…
Lan Zhan carefully walked over several of the hopping wonders as they flopped onto their stomachs right next to his beloved, others made a run for it.
But for the first time in his life, Lan Zhan did not care.
He stepped into the now half semi circle and walked up to Wei Ying. Neither could look away.
"My love…" Wei Ying whispered, his beautiful silver eyes shining with fondness.
"Wei Ying …"
Lan Zhan only saw him.
With both of his hands, he held Wei Ying’s precious face and lifted it up so he could kiss him properly. Hot lips slid together in a dance of love, until Wei Ying wrapped his arms around Lan Zhan’s neck, pulling him close.
"I love you." Wei Ying breathes out, still giddy.
"I am so fortunate." Lan Zhan murmurs against his lips.
"Why?" Wei Ying is dazed, dizzy with love.
"Because I love Wei Ying…and he loves me back."
Wei Ying hugs him tightly, his lips kissing under Lan Zhan’s jaw.
"I'm the lucky one. If A-Yuan hadn't stopped outside…" his throat is thick with feelings, and the words won't come out now. "Damn…" he whacks Lan Zhan’s arm lightly. "I had a whole thing planned!"
"Mn?"
Wei Ying pushes a piece of paper into his hands.
"The bunnies were supposed to stay in that shape…and then I was gonna give you that…"
Lan Zhan couldn't tell whether those were happy or sad tears, and he quickly opened the letter, to see if it could give him a clue as to what Wei Ying was talking about.
The letter was quite simple:
Will you marry me?
Lan Zhan carefully folded it up and tucked it into the pocket closest to his heart.
Wei Ying was looking at him anxiously.
Lan Zhan reached into his pocket and pulled out a black velvet box.
"Wei Ying beat me to it…" he said, opening the box so that Wei Ying could see inside it.
Two beautiful bands of platinum gold shone almost white, with a single black diamond in the centre. Its matching ring was a plain platinum band with a row of tiny black diamonds in the centre.
"I saw this…and I thought of my Wei Ying." Lan Zhan admitted.
"Um…you haven't actually answered…" Wei Ying says, somewhat shyly now.
"Does this answer your question?"
Lan Zhan lifted him up and set Wei Ying on the counter.
"Yes."
That's all the warning he got before Lan Zhan’s lips were on his, kissing him into oblivion.
There was so much passion here, and yet it was sandwiched between layers of love, sweetness and joy.
This year had brought them together and with that, they discovered everything about each other. And with every new reveal, they found out that they fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. Each piece was different, but slotted together, they were perfect.
