The Big Fight Extra

Wei Ying burst through the doors of the coffee shop, ready to leave and eager to get on with his day. His shift had ended and right on time, he received a phone call telling him the surprise he had been waiting for, was finally ready.

Jiang Cheng honked at him and he hurried to the purple mustang.

"Let's go!"

They pulled out and drove to the destination.

Wei Ying was so excited, he was practically bouncing in his seat. Jiang Cheng tried not to glare at him, but it was so hard.

He hadn’t even parked properly before Wei Ying raced out, slamming the door of his precious baby.

"Wait here!" He yelled before disappearing inside that building.

Twenty minutes later, Wei Ying came out, much slower. He walked at an even pace and sat down in the back seat, cradling a box with holes in the sides. He was still trembling...

Ten minutes later, they were parked outside Lan Zhan’s and his home.

"Thanks for the lift, Jiang Cheng. I love you!" Wei Ying called as he lifted the box out gingerly, closing the purple door of his car with his backside.

Jiang Cheng scowled back.

"I'll see you later." He promised.

Wei Ying beamed at him and singled handedly opened the door, putting the box down carefully both times, once to open and to close it. Then he carried it into the lounge. He put it down gently on the coffee table and followed his nose to the kitchen.

Lan Zhan had made brownies. And not the normal ones but extra chocolate chip brownies with mixed chips.

This was love.

No question about it.

When Wei Ying saw his favourite person in the whole world pulling a baking tray out of the oven with bunny-shaped oven gloves, wearing that bunny apron, his heart melted like chocolate flakes.

He let Lan Zhan put the tray down before going to him, and wrapping his arms around Lan Zhan’s waist.

"My love!" He gave him a blinding smile.

"Welcome home." Lan Zhan hugged him back and kissed him.

"You taste like chocolate!" Wei Ying accused him.

"And that's a bad thing?" Lan Zhan smiled down at him.

"Not bad..." Wei Ying decided..."just different. I love your taste. It's like coming home. But you ate some without me!" He pouted.

Lan Zhan kissed his forehead and turned him around, and then with a playful slap on his bottom, he ushered him out.

"You have to go and get ready." He reminded him.

"But Lan Zhan..." Wei Ying licked his bottom lip, suddenly quite nervous.

"Mn?" Lan Zhan took off his oven gloves and gave him his full attention.

"Um...so I have a surprise for you. But you have to close your eyes...okay?" Wei Ying shifted from one foot to the other, wavering.

Lan Zhan checked his watch and smiled.

"We have ten minutes before we hit the tight schedule and have to rush."

"Okay, okay! Now close your eyes." Wei Ying was too excited, all of it was bubbling out of him like confetti.

"How about this, where is the surprise located?" Lan Zhan reached out to hold his hand.

"In the lounge."

"Then what if I close my eyes at the door? It'll save time." Lan Zhan suggested.

He did not want to be on the receiving end of a stubbed toe like the last time Wei Ying had a surprise for him. Those hurt...

"You're absolutely right. Let's do that." Wei Ying pulled him along to the door of the lounge where Lan Zhan dutifully closed his eyes.

"No peeking!" Wei Ying had giggles waiting to burst out of his body.

He just knew that Lan Zhan was going to love this surprise!

He pushed Lan Zhan onto the couch and then said, "You can open your eyes now."

When he did, Wei Ying added, "the surprise is in the box."

Lan Zhan hoped it wasn't something frightening.

Like a snake.

Wei Ying had called it a kitten.

But as Lan Zhan pointed out, kittens had legs...

But he bravely opened the flaps of the box.

There, nestled inside were two baby rabbits sitting in straw and twitching their little noses at him. One was white with a cute little blue ribbon tied around its paw, and the other one was black with a red ribbon which it was diligently chewing on.

Lan Zhan could feel something building in his chest.

It grew and grew and grew...and then he burst into tears.

"Oh...oh dear...have I got it wrong...? I can take them back if you don't like them!" Wei Ying started wringing his hands anxiously.

Lan Zhan grabbed him, holding him close and unable to speak.

Minutes passed by...

Wei Ying was fretting more now because if Lan Zhan didn't let him go soon, they were going to be late and Wei Ying would have ruined everything. It was supposed to be a special day, their six month anniversary.

"Sweetheart..." Wei Ying stroked his hair softly, hoping that this would calm him down.

Lan Zhan was still trembling in his arms.

"I love them." Lan Zhan told him, then, whispering it so as not to frighten the delicate furry animals.

Wei Ying wasn't sure whether to believe him or not.

"Are you...just saying that? Because you think I'm upset?"

Lan Zhan shook his head and gave him a small smile. His ears were bright red.

"Love them. Too happy...joy wouldn't fit inside." He explained.

He still hadn't let go of Wei Ying yet.

"Would you like to hold them?" Wei Ying suggested.

Lan Zhan looked frightened.

"It won't hurt them?" He whispered, his golden eyes round with awe.

"No. The shop owner said bunnies are made for cuddling. All you have to do is be very gentle. Okay?" Wei Ying told him, smiling back now, because Lan Zhan loved them.

Lan Zhan let go of him then.

Wei Ying carefully took out the black bunny and placed it in Lan Zhan’s lap. Then, so the other white one wouldn't be scared by itself, he took out the white one too and held it in his lap. His fingers softly began stroking it.

Lan Zhan watched him do it a few times before he began. He let out a small noise of wonder at how soft its fur was.

Wei Ying studied his face.

Lan Zhan had gone all soft. His attention was wholly on the creature in his arms, hardly daring to believe it was really there.

The bunny too seemed to take a liking to him, because it nuzzled him gently and Lan Zhan made that noise again.

Wei Ying put his rabbit down next to Lan Zhan and got a saucer for now. He put some hay in it and let the white rabbit start munching on it, giving Lan Zhan a few stalks too.

The wonder and awe on his face...was just priceless.

His fingers were fond and gentle, his face full of astonished love. He seemed wonderstruck.

"I'm going to get changed now..." Wei Ying said.

Lan Zhan nodded, not looking up.

"We can go and buy them things tomorrow...together. I...I didn’t want to do any of that without you." Wei Ying thought Lan Zhan looked too cute, with the bunnies and himself and ... and everything. He quickly snapped some pictures of him, before disappearing upstairs.

He got changed super quickly.

Lan Zhan had already told him that tonight was a special anniversary for them and he was to treat it as such.

So Wei Ying dressed in a deep red silk shirt, and black dress pants, the cut very stylish and form fitting. He finished it off with a black blazer edged in black rhinestones, a black skinny tie and a deep red pocket square.

His hair, he decided to wear it up in a messy bun copied from an Instagram post. It looked easier than it was to actually recreate it, but he was happy with the end result.

Then he put some make up on.

Nothing too much, just a red eyeliner and tiniest bit of clear lip gloss.

Lan Zhan had bought him black diamond studs which he wore to complete the look.

Then the doorbell rang and Wei Ying went downstairs to open it.

Jiang Cheng came inside, looking all around him.

"Well, where is he? Or are you going alone?"

"No need to be bitchy. He's...just a bit overwhelmed." Wei Ying pushed Jiang Cheng into the lounge.

They both stared at the grown man whose eyes still let out tears of happiness now and then.

"Is he alright?" Jiang Cheng asked.

Wei Ying shrugged.

"Sweetheart...you have to go and get ready now." He said gently. "Jiang Cheng is here to bunnysit. It will be alright."

Lan Zhan looked up then, saw Wei Ying and gave him a broad smile.

"Tell him to stop doing that!" Jiang Cheng tugged on Wei Ying’s sleeve, freaking out.

Then Lan Zhan saw Jiang Cheng and frowned.

He reached into his pocket and dialed a number.

"Xiongzhang, I need you. It is an emergency." He said, quickly.

"What is he talking about?" Jiang Cheng asked incredulously.

"Um...I don't know?" Wei Ying replied helplessly.

Minutes later, XiChen knocked on their door.

When he saw the bunnies, he cooed and ahhed and made an appropriate fuss, until Lan Zhan thought he was suitable to look after the bunnies now.

Then only, he marched upstairs to get ready.

All the while, Jiang Cheng fumed, a dark cloud sitting above his head.

Whenever Wei Ying tried to talk to him, that cloud thundered with flashes of lightening too.

"You mustn't mind WangJi." XiChen told him. "His social skills aren't the best. He means well, though."

Jiang Cheng wondered on what planet, but he was too polite to mention it.

"If you haven't got anything else to do, why not hang out with me here?" XiChen asked him with a playful smile. "These bunnies might suddenly go feral...and I might need saving..."

Jiang Cheng smiled back at him and just like that, the cloud disappeared revealing a brilliant rainbow.

Wei Ying decided to leave them to it, and he waited outside the lounge. He had a feeling he would have to stop Lan Zhan from returning there otherwise they would never leave...

Wei Ying had shined his shoes too and he was just admiring them when a ginger slipped under his chin and lifted his face up.

That was all the warning he had before Lan Zhan kissed him again, this time he was thorough.

Wei Ying held his waist for balance because this kiss...it was better than all the other times they had kissed. Lan Zhan never did anything by half measures (Wei Ying had caught him examining an online how-to kiss study guide, for God's sake) and Lan Zhan was definitely much better now.

Wei Ying usually went with his gut when kissing him back. He let his feelings take control and somehow it worked. Lan Zhan was simply the best and he knew it. These soul fulfilling kisses were worth every second.

Now, if only they could find a way to not have to breathe...

"Thank you." Lan Zhan told him, as they parted.

"For?" Wei Ying was still dazed and not able to think.

"For our bunnies." Lan Zhan smiled shyly.

"Oh...Sweetheart...you don't have to thank me for them...I'm just happy in here." He patted his heart, smiling. "As long as you like them...that's enough for me. Now...what are you going to call them?"

Lan Zhan smiled thoughtfully, trying to sidestep past Wei Ying’s body, but Wei Ying was on to him.

"No...you have to trust that they'll be fine, because if I let you go back in there, all this hard work will have been for nothing." He waved a hand at his own body. Wei Ying stood resolutely, refusing to budge.

"But...I have to tell my brother something..." Lan Zhan tried.

"Message him. Now, come on..." Wei Ying took his hand and pulled him outside their house.

He couldn’t help but admire the way Lan Zhan had dressed.

His cream suit was sharply tailored to define his broad shoulders and accentuate his waist...and those guns...Wei Ying was salivating already. Plus he wore a pale blue silk shirt and a cream tie. No one was as handsome as his Lan Zhan looked tonight.

Luckily they made it on time, just five minutes late to the restaurant.

Wei Ying wanted to laugh because it was that same swanky place that Wen Chao had made him run away from.

This time though, Lan Zhan made sure he ordered whatever he wanted. They made a toast to their anniversary too, with a cocktail and green tea. Dessert was melt in the mouth cookies and ice cream.

And then, just as Wei Ying thought it could not get any more romantic, Lan Zhan took both of his hands in his.

"Wei Ying...we have been together for six months." He started saying, squeezing their hands together.

"I love you so much..." Wei Ying whispered. His emotions were always a bit wild sometimes, more so when they were about Lan Zhan.

"And I was wondering..." Lan Zhan’s voice cracked...and he cleared his throat.

"Well, well, well....if it isn't the Dine and Dasher himself!"

Wei Ying looked up at the unwanted disruption in their little bubble of love.

It was Wen Chao.

He had a sneer on his face, which twisted into something worse when he saw their joined hands.

"Yeah, you better keep a hold on him, otherwise blink and he's gone." Wen Chao continued.

Lan Zhan stood up, towering over the shorter man.

"Kindly leave. This is a private table." He told the rude man.

"I'm only looking out for you." Wen Chao carried on.

Wei Ying saw the murderous look in Lan Zhan’s eyes and quickly got up to stand in front of him, in case he decided to make him shut up through violence.

"My love...he isn't worth it. We can call management..." Wei Ying tugged on his sleeve, wanting to catch his attention.

But Lan Zhan remembered that night better than Wei Ying did, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he became.

No one could treat his Wei Ying so badly and think it was alright.

In fact, as a cold smile appeared on his face, Lan Zhan thought Wen Chao suddenly turning up here was a good thing.

Wen Chao saw the smile on his face and mistook it for support, an agreement to his words.

Wei Ying yelped as Lan Zhan picked him up and placed him gently behind himself, keeping their hands joined together.

That was the first sign that Wen Chao got...that maybe Lan Zhan was not the sort of person to provoke.

"Let me refresh your memory." Lan Zhan said in an icy voice. He felt affronted on behalf of Wei Ying, and thought no harm would come of teaching this loser a valuable lesson.

"Wei Ying rarely makes a mistake. And past mistakes are regrettable. I am looking at one now." He continued, never looking away from the slimy toad.

There was a terrible glint in his dull brown eyes as he stared back. Wen Chao became instantly angry.

"How dare you?" He fumed.

The woman on his arm tried to pull him away, but he ignored her, shaking off her hand.

"What else would you call it? I do not believe he was enjoying himself, so perhaps it was the company he was in?" His gaze was full of disdain.

Electricity charged the air around them as the other people sitting around them noticed something was going down. They fell silent and the waiters scuttled away like cockroaches.

Wen Chao threw his first punch.

Lan Zhan caught his fist in an iron grip. He looked bored.

And then, with no more effort than crushing a petal, he squeezed.

Wen Chao screamed in pain, writhing on the floor in agony...but Lan Zhan had not let him go yet.

"I believe you should apologise. Right now."

Wen Chao's eyes widened as Lan Zhan increased the pressure.

"For what?" He spat on the floor, panting heavily. His eyes were bulging from the pain.

"You insulted my date. That's number one. Anyone who disrespects my Wei Ying deserves to feel my ire. Number two, because of you, he hurt himself trying to escape. Number three, also because of you, he came home drenched. Are we seeing a pattern here?" Lan Zhan tightened his grip and twisted it.

Wen Chao howled.

Security hustled forward with a person dressed better than anyone else.

"Sir...we will take over from here." He said politely, though his eyes were filled with a secret joy.

He motioned towards his bulky black-suited men who grabbed Wen Chao, hauling him up roughly.

"I'm gonna sue you! My lawyers are going to take you to the cleaners!" Wen Chao shouted at Lan Zhan, cradling his injured hand.

"SIR!" The manager raised his voice. "You must be mistaken. No one else is to be blamed for you accidentally walking into a table. Perhaps if sir had watched where he was going, this could have been avoided."

It was a blatant lie.

Lan Zhan liked him solely for that alone, but then, he went one further.

"I've got witnesses!" Wen Chao yelled, looking around at the people trying to avoid eye contact with him.

"Did anyone see anything?" The manager asked around politely.

"He walked into the table by himself." One voice shouted out, and all the others agreed loudly, voicing their support.

The manager wore a satisfied smile.

"I am asking you to leave now, and please do not come back. I do not wish our diners to suffer from indigestion." He continued, not even looking at him as his security people led Wen Chao away.

Then he bowed towards Lan Zhan.

"Thank you Mr. Lan. I trust the interruption to your meal will not be held against us? It would be a shame to lose your support."

"We had finished anyway." Lan Zhan replied, the tension disappearing from his shoulders.

"Well, as you know, we pride ourselves on our establishment being able to satisfy our clients' needs...so I would like to inform you that your meal is in the house." He bowed again. "What about dessert? I insist."

"Mn." Lan Zhan smiled.

"And how is Uncle? Has his finger recovered from that gardening mishap?" He carried on, flicking a hand to the waiters who had suddenly reappeared.

Wei Ying’s eyes became as round as saucers at that. He looked from one to the other in disbelief as the two chatted like old acquaintances.

The manager wished them well and left.

Lan Zhan pulled out Wei Ying’s chair and made him sit down again, before returning to his seat.

"Now...where were we?" He took hold of Wei Ying's hands again as if nothing had happened.

"You've got to be kidding me!" Wei Ying whispered in an incredulous hiss. "You can't do that! What about what just happened?" He demanded. "Of course, you were very hot...but still, you've got some explaining to do, mister." He shivered at the memory of Lan Zhan’s behaviour.

"After...after Wei Ying returned from here that night...I bought the restaurant." He admitted, ears blazing now, eyes on the tablecloth in front of him.

"What? Why?" Wei Ying couldn’t believe it.

Everything felt like some weird dream.

"I wanted to fix the windows. There is now a fire exit in there." More confessions...

"In the mens' room?" Wei Ying asked, pinching himself hard.

"Mn. There was no other way. I could only make changes of I owned it...so..." He shrugged.

Wei Ying stood up, ignoring the wild screech of his chair's legs. He stumbled towards Lan Zhan, right into his lap with tears streaming from his eyes.

"Wei Ying!" Lan Zhan was alarmed.

"No one has ever done anything like that for me before..." He was so shocked.

Lan Zhan was more upset about his tears. He grabbed the paper napkin and began wiping them away.

"Please...don't cry..." He begged.

"Happy tears..." Wei Ying mumbled, trying to stop.

Lan Zhan let him gather himself.

"But...hang on...the manager...he said our meal was on the house..." Wei Ying narrowed his eyes at Lan Zhan. "If you paid...you're just paying yourself..."

"I didn't want Wei Ying to know...or feel bad..." Lan Zhan admitted.

Wei Ying did the only thing he could; he pushed their lips together sweetly.

Lan Zhan was so surprised at first, he simply enjoyed the slide of Wei Ying's gorgeous lips against his own. Little tingles of joy exploded all around them as he held Wei Ying tighter, deepening the kiss. He loved Wei Ying with every facet of his being and he wanted him to know.

Wei Ying did know, and was loving him back with a matching passion. His fingers were holding Lan Zhan’s face as if he was a treasure, holding him with care and devotion.

The manager had returned and cleared his throat politely.

"Please enjoy." He said, gesturing towards the two desserts in front of them.

"What is that?" Wei Ying asked him, in wonder.

There was a chocolate globe in front of them with a jug of heated milk. Fruit berries with powdered sugar decorated the outer edge on the plate.

Lan Zhan took his hand and guided Wei Ying to pour some of the hot liquid onto the globe, and as the hard chocolate melted away, it revealed two rings embedded on a white chocolate disc, sitting on top of a slice of black forest gateaux.

Lan Zhan put the jug down as Wei Ying stared.

And stared...and stared...

"Wei Ying...I wish to spend the rest of my life by your side...please say yes...?"

The tears were back, falling over his beautiful rosy cheeks, and Wei Ying could not speak even if he wanted to. But he could nod, and his head was moving even before Lan Zhan stopped talking.

Lan Zhan took the rings and put one on Wei Ying’s finger, kissing it softly as cheers broke out all around them. Wei Ying laughed and cried and grabbed his hand to do the same.

They ended up feeding each other cake, smiling and kissing each other in between bites.

This was going to be the start of their life journey together.

And no one was happier than they were.

The End.

THE END.

I MEAN IT.
