Chapter 12: Who Needs Teleportation?

Who Needs Teleportation?

Caster POV:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up to the slightest sound. I thought of going back to sleep, but then I heard another creak.
The dorm is old. It was hard to get around the place without making sound. Most of the time no one needed to sneak around in the dorms.
Sadly this didn't work well for when someone wanted to sneak away. I glanced over at Grimora but she already had her eyes open.
We exchanged a small look and slowly sat up. Last week she got away by luck. I didn't have my sound spells ready. I knew I couldn't make the same mistake again.
"Levious." I whispered as quietly as I could. Me and Grimora slowly put our feet onto the not so real floor. The spell lifted us off the ground enough so that the floor wouldn't creak from our weight.
If she wouldn't make it past the landmine of creaky floors, neither could we. We made our way towards the door and slowly turned the knob.
We looked around and just managed to see her hair out of the corner of our eyes descending down the stairs. I looked around and everyone else was already leaving their rooms too.
Guess she wasn't as quiet as she thought.
We all looked at each other and knew what we had to do. We made our way to the stairs and looked out the window. She was already outside and running! We ran down the stairs, as quietly as supernaturally possible and ran out after her.
She won't slip away this time! She had left the front door wide open and we sprinted after her. She ran for cover in the forest but she wouldn't outrun us.
She needs us. She won't do this alone. She turned her head for a second and I guess she saw us because she just ran faster.
Some of us had trouble keeping up. Mostly Yukio. He was athletic, but I guess he hasn't fully come into his demon powers yet.
He awakened a while back, I guess it hasn't taken full effect. "I can't! I'll stay behind just in case she doubles back." he yelled out.
There was suddenly one less set of footfalls and then there was just the five of us.
She took a quick right taking all of us by surprise. We all did our best to find a way to take a shortcut but the woods were too thick...
But we wouldn't give up so easily.
The adrenaline and the magic coursed through me as I strung my hands away from each other.
The twigs and thorns bent away giving us a short cut. We've got her! We ran as fast as we could and I was absolutely sure we were going to catch her but when we got to her she was gone.
It was like she disappeared. "There!" Rin yelled pointing to the way in which she would've gone.
We ran after her but how did she get in front of us in the first place? We eventually made it out of the woods and onto the road leading to the city.
We heard the creaks of the pole lifting and the engines bursting behind us. We wanted to look back but we didn't need to. By then there were trucks driving up behind us. They tried to get in front of us but we wouldn't let them.
They tried to go around us but we moved to stay in front. We don't know what they want but the trucks were armored from what glimpses we did get.
Rin slowed down and jumped on one of the trucks. I could barely hear the gasp over the sound of my pounding heart.
"They're exorcist trucks!" Rin yelled. Shit! Who told!? Now the exorcists are here and there is nothing we can do! If they get a hold of her she'll be dragged away for treason!
We just have to get to her first.
We ran harder. We were tired, sweaty, and ill-prepared to fight but we'll be damned if she does this alone.
She made it into the city and the trucks split up. Some stayed behind us.
She didn't even look tired. She just kept going. Why the city? Where would a demon portal be in the city that people wouldn't see? Maybe it's not even here. Maybe it's in another city.
Some things weren't adding up. She turned the corner and we saw the street light up. When we turned the corner there were rows of trucks with exorcist ready to shoot.
The trucks behind us came to a halt locking her in. "Exwire Korosuakuma, lay down your weapons and show us your hands. You are charged with treason of the first and fourth degree. You will give up the location of the keytas and will proceed to the Vatican for your trial." the man yelled.
She looked around for a way out and ran dead sprint for the skyscraper. The exorcist open fired on her but not one bullet seemed to hit her. Some of the bullets pierced the glass of the front of the building and she crashed into the glass.
The bullet-littered door gave out and she kept going. We all looked at each other and ran in after her. She took the elevator and smiled as the door shut before we could reach it.
"Come on. She can't get far. You guys take the stairs. We'll go off the side and start at the top." Kasai said, running to look for a window. Rin ran after her and we all split up to get to the stairs before exorcists could.
Me and Grimora found stairs on the west wing of the building. We looked up at all of the fights of stairs we would have to climb and shook our heads. No way.
I did a quick teleportation spell and we skipped a few fights of stairs. We ran back to where the elevator had been and saw that it was still going up. We did this a few times until we made it to the top.
The elevator door was open and empty on the top floor. We searched the top floor but couldn't find her. We all ran into each other on the north wing and the questions started. "Where could she have gone?" Okami asked annoyed.
"No time! The exorcists are almost here! We have to check the roof!" Rin said. He and Kasai started at the top. They knew how to get to the roof.
We sprinted to the east wing and took a flight of stairs and kicked the door to the roof open. There she was looking off over the edge.
The portal isn't up here. No way. So why would she corner herself up here? Exorcists soon busted through the roof door and had their weapons ready.
"Korosuakuma! Lay down any weapons and leave peacefully. That's an order! You will be taken to the Vatican effective immediately."
She turned to look at all of us and frowned. She looked sad and the tears glossed her eyes. I have a bad feeling about this. She sat down on the ledge and crossed her legs.
"I would but I cannot. I have to protect you. At any cost. Even that of my life. I'm so sorry" she said.
Then she fell backwards.
"Noo!" we all screamed and ran for the edge. She was gone. There was no evidence she had even been there. She wasn't free falling or on the ground below. She had disappeared out of thin air.
Korosu POV:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Damn. The illusion was already caught. I was really hoping she would last longer. I'm not even on the field yet!

I heard the footsteps over the sound of my rapidly beating heart and I pushed my legs harder. I have to make it to the field before they do. I broke from the tree line at the same time they did.

They marched out in rows. They were ready for a fight but if all went well then there wouldn't be one. I managed to make it to the center of the other side and that's when they finally noticed me.

"Have you changed your mind?" Regine asked from across the field. "No." I said breathing heavy from the run. "But you're alone." she said smirking. "Only because I didn't come to fight." I said regaining my normal breathing.

"So why show up at all? You planning to stop us?" she laughed. "I came to talk. Please hear me out." I pleaded. She thought about it for a second but it was all she needed. "Fine. You have 3 minutes." she said swinging her spear around.

This was my chance. Might be my only chance to change their minds. To stop this war. To save everyone. I only had 3 minutes and no speech ready. It seemed I didn't need one because it all poured out of me.

"Demons and Keytas are the same. We all have monsters inside of us that we don't always want breaking the surface. We are desperately trying to save the people we love from ourselves. We will never love romantically but we have people who love us. Our parents, our siblings, and even the some of us who had friends. Demons have families, mates and friends. What they did to us wasn't fair but it's not going to make us any better by returning the favor. Nothing good will come out of this war! The blood and lives lost won't amount to anything but mistakes. Please don't do this!" I pleaded and begged.

I wish I could show them. Dig into my memories and prove how they saved me. They have done nothing but give me everything they had. Their love, their friendship, their time, they gave me everything.

For the first time in my life I felt like I belonged. Like I meant something to people. I couldn't find it in myself to hate either. Both made me who I am. I wish I could make them understand.

But they didn't.

"Our lives will not be mistakes! We have lived like this for decades. Most of us only have each other because demons and exorcists took everything else! We cannot and will not just hide while demons sit in mansions and be happy like everything is okay. What they did to us needs to be corrected. We're done talking." she said throwing her spear down.

Please don't do this. I didn't want it to come to this. I don't know what will happen. Please reconsider, but they wouldn't. The look in her eyes said I would never be able to convince her. Fighting was the only way.

"Then I'm sorry." I said giving up my control. "This is gonna be fun." she smiled. "Let's make one thing clear." my Keyta said swinging around a knife.

"I'm not her. I'm not into the whole talk it out idea when I know you're dead set on fighting. So let's fight. Everyone who knows they won't win should lay down your weapons or face me. I come between you and that portal"

"So give me all you've got" my Keyta dared as the shadows bent from the tree line.

The fact that it was late at night gave advantage. There are more shadows in the night. The shadows crawled out of the tree line and slowly built themselves into wolves.

The amount of wolves increased until I had an army. The trees in the moonlight gave me the shadows I needed and there was still more. "You should know better than to pick a fight in the dark with a girl like me." I grinned and that's when the fighting broke out.

The wolves advanced at top speed and jumped through the nearest Keyta. The wolves had the power to not only grow the gap in pre-existing cracks, but steal the energy in a soul.

The wolves weren't perfect though. Strong wills can keep them out or very bright souls but I don't expect that in people who want war.

The wolves weren't enough. Some Keytas still broke through the wolf barrier. I had tricks up my sleeve but I hadn't trained nearly enough as them. I knew I couldn't beat them in a fight. My Keyta probably could but we couldn't allow them to get too close.

I know she could feel the panic rise in me. I watched as one by one Keytas broke the barrier but most still were severely weakened by the wolves' power.

 "Terra te requiro. Pugnabit enim qui quaerit malus tuus ut noceat rex et regina. Defendat." I begged to the Earth. My Latin wasn't great but, depite it, they heard my plea.

The earth shook at the request and soon the trees around me bowed and twisted to fight. The vines and roots from the earth shot out to restrain the already weak. Regine dodged the branches and the wolves wouldn't touch her.

She was the strongest. I cupped my hands to my chest and drew away to make my sword. We circled each other. I could feel my heart accelerate at the challenge. Lord knows my Keyta loved a challenge.

"You think a demon slaying sword will kill me?" she taunted. She shouldn't taunt so much until she knows me! she hissed in my head, annoyed and obviously affected by the cockiness.

"You have no idea what I can do" my Keyta sneered. "I've been training for decades. You can't beat me!" she growled out.

"I can't beat you hand-to-hand" I admitted before smiling. I tore into my arm and let the blood run loose. I put my blade under it and watched as my blood sizzled and evaporated.

"Spatio inclusum. Nullus evadat." my Keyta screamed and watched the magic build up around us. She was over excited by what she believed would be her win. Regine didn't expect it and looked at the sudden barrier in anger.

"This is impossible. You shouldn't be able to do magic." she hissed.

"If you had spies, you should have gone all out" my Keyta taunted. I let my blood fizz out into the enclosed space as she started to cough as the blood thickened the air.

"What did you do?" she said coughing almost in between every word. "Does it hurt? Because it's supposed to?" my Keyta laughed. Sometimes I think she actually is evil.

She tried to launch herself at me but she fell short. She almost couldn't breath. Do not kill anyone! I yelled the words bouncing in my head. 'That was the agreement' she hissed annoyed.

She dropped the barrier and the blood dispersed into the air. I watched her claw at her throat for a breath. Her air escaping her at the new found pain she hadn't felt in years.

I closed up my wound as fast as I could. I could feel myself start to go light headed. "Korosuakuma! Stop in the name of the Vatican! You are to leave this fight this instant and proceed to trial for treason of the first and fourth degree" I heard a voice ring out onto the field.

I turned to look at the tree line and there were exorcist lined up, pointing their guns. I transformed back into myself and put my hands up. "I'll go if you promise that their sentence is carried out at my hearing." I yelled breathing heavy.

I stumbled a little bit and started to worry. How much blood did I lose?

"How far are you willing to go to protect these monsters?" an exorcist yelled. "Wrong question!"I yelled back. "What?"

Guess they didn't hear me. " Wrong question! It's how far I am willing to go to save everyone." I said as the black started to invade my vision. "Promise me. Swear to me! That their sentence will be carried out with mine!" I begged.

"We promise." I heard him sigh. Thanks demon hearing. They started to run towards me while others started to cuff the keytas. "Don't hurt them!" I yelled watching as they started to struggle.

They made their way towards me but I was losing my grip on my sight. "Exorcise her or she won't make it. Please help her" I asked.

I tried to take a step towards them but everything in me gave out. That's when the world went dark. Everything will work out.
