Chapter 3
Jakey's POV
I fidgeted and messed with my scarf. Where was he? Bryan told me he would meet me 5 minutes ago... Bryan and I were supposed to meet up for some dinner and a late-night walk together. Alone. Just the two of us.
The thought of it both made me wanna die from embarrassment and jump from excitement. After all, Bryan was awfully handsome and he was super nice, funny, upbeat, but also fierce and brave, and- Oh! I'm rambling! I could go on for hours about him.
And speak of the devil, or the Divil, Bryan walked into the restaurant. He did look a little different though. He was slightly paler and he kept touching his arm and rubbing it, like he was hurt. I forgot the second he sat down.
"Hey Jakey!" he said cheerfully.
"H-Hey, Bryan," I replied. "H-How's everything, uh, with y-you?"
I mentally cursed my stutter. The darn thing kept making me seem awkward and that was not the impression I wanted with Bryan. He didn't seem to mind though. If anything, he sorta liked it. He grinned and started chatting about random things.
We talked for a good ten minutes before the waitress came and took our orders. That's when I noticed Bryan's arm again. He raised it to gesture at the waitress and I noticed some white thing wrapped around it. Was that...a bandage?
"Hey Bryan, w-what's w-wrong with your arm?" I asked impulsively.
"My arm?" he repeated, giving me a confused look.
I pointed at the arm in question and he gave a little jump.
"O-Oh! This arm! I just cut it a little during training, that's all."
He was lying. I always knew. His face reddened, his hands fidgeted and his eyes looked everywhere when he lied. But I let it slide. If he didn't wanna tell me, he didn't need to.
Our food FINALLY came and we dug in. Bryan made some good choices when it came to dining areas. The soup I ordered was amazing, even if I did slurp. Bryan tossed me a cookie, but Oliver leaped over my shoulder and ate it in one bite. I quickly shoved him out of sight before the staff noticed and we got thrown out.
Bryan laughed at me panicking, then he started coughing, really hard. He excused himself and went to the bathroom.
I waited for 30 minutes, but he didn't come out. I had half a mind to storm into that bathroom and make sure he was ok. Then I got a text from him.
Hey Jakey,
Sorry I had to go. I didn't mean to leave, but I'm not feeling good at all right now, and I don't wanna get you sick. We can reschedule anytime that works for you. oo, Bryan.
Well, at least he was considerate. And I didn't say no to some hugs. I texted a good time and day back, finished up my meal and left the restaurant with Oliver eating my leftover cookies.
(Oooooohhhhh, yikes. I think a lot of us know what happened. Oh dear.)
