12-Betrayal

They're 16 now

I laughed at something Tommy said, breathing the faint scent from the patch of black dahlias that took root nearby.

"Jacob wants me to take his role of captain." He said, picking at the grass under us. "But I don't know if I want to take it. I'm only sixteen, for Christ's sake!"

"Just barely, even." I pointed out. "But, to be fair, Jacob was only fifteen when he became captain, so..."

Tommy shrugged as he sighed. "Still, it's a lot."

I nod. "I get that. But, hey, at least I'll be right by your side, right?"

Tommy smiled, looking at me.

"Right."

I sighed as I finished my rounds. I became a guard a few years ago, a few months after Tommy did, actually.

Speaking of which, I saw Tommy run up to me, a large smile on his face. I noted his uniform. It was the same as mine, but the hat had a large white feather that faded to a rustic gold color at the top.

"Tubbo!" He chirped as he caught up to me. "I took the Captain role!"

I grinned, hugging him. "That's great, Tommy! But I thought you didn't want the role?"

He shrugged. "I don't know, I kind of don't..." He then started grinning again. "But I don't care what I do, as long as we do it together."

I grinned.

"Together."

I sat in the barracks, waiting for Tommy, who was currently in a meeting with the king. I sighed, humming a tune as I watched a bumble bee gather pollen from a nearby flower.

A black dahlia.

I closed my eyes, thinking back to what my mother told me about the flower when I was little.

"It means betrayal and dishonesty..."

I look back to the hill, our hill, and I notice the growing patch of black dahlias.

Betrayal....

Every time we hang out, a black dahlia always seems to follow.

Dishonesty.....

I could just be overreacting though.....right...?

Tommy....?

Tommy eventually came back, a somber look on his face. Behind him were two guards, whom I recognized as Nick, and a new guard, Zak.

"How'd it go?" I ask, noticing his demeanor.

He didn't look at me. Instead, he looked at Nick, and nodded.

Nick then walked up to me, and took my hat off my head.

"Tommy, whats going on?"

"Hush, flower boy," Zak said with a hint of sympathy in his tone. "Commoners arent allowed to speak to nobles."

"B-but-" I tried to look at Tommy, but he refused to even glance at me. "W-were best friends!"

"You were best friends." Nick corrected me, packing up my stuff. "C'mon, don't make this any harder than it has to be."

"Tommy, say something, please!"

I felt my eyes water and my vision blur as Nick shoved my items in my hand.

"Tommy!"

Not once did he glance my way.

Not even as I was ushered out of the barracks.

I look at the black leather book Tommy gave me seven years ago. It had a black dahlia on the cover, one that I had painted.

I huffed, angrily throwing the book up against my bedroom wall.

I gave that bastard ample time to call it off or to even just explain, but he decided to ignore my every plea.

No more second chances, if he doesn't want to acknowledge who i thought was his best friend, that's his fault.

No more.

577 words

I think that was the longest memory, but I'm not sure.

Question; Would y'all like to see Tommy's POV on this chapter after the epilogue, as a sort of bonus, or no? It's up to y'all, really.
