Word Count: 2,950
⚠️Warnings⚠️: Profanity, Fluff, blood, surgery, dreams, graphic detail, panic attack,
Information: Izuku is having the surgery! I haven't read many with this one, so I'm giving it a shot. Also, I like to hint new story ideas in my other stores 😂. Some may know what I'm talking about. Also, are there any Merlin fans out there?!
⚠️One more warning⚠️: this chapter may make some uncomfortable, because of how Izuku's dreams are described. So please continue with caution if you don't like blood, gore, or graphic detail to injuries.
🌺Previously in Flower Showers🌺
His tears fell at the sight of Izuku. Izuku was practically dead. Knocking on deaths door. Katsuki sat down on the bed and took Izuku's hand in his. He brushed some hair out of Izuku's face and smiled when Izuku's nose twitched.
It's always the little things, isn't it?
Katsuki sniffed and felt the room become colder. "I'm not sure if you can hear me, but I'm guessing your moments in the dream world will be absolute hell. But I'll always be on this side waiting for you. I'll be here. I'll always be here because you're always by my side. You can't get rid of me and I can't get rid of you... Vice versa."
Flowers bloomed inside Izuku's chest and Katsuki could see a thorn start to stick out of his skin. He winced and Izuku's body flinched a bit.
"I'll be waiting on the other side because, I love you Deku..." Katsuki whispers as he left Deku with a soft kiss.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
The surgery had started. Izuku was awake as they rolled him into the operating room. He felt his heart palpitating, and his lungs felt sore. He felt like something was inside his esophagus, blocking his airways.
His chest felt like dumbbells were resting there. He was too scared to move, but he also couldn't move because of the anesthesia he was put on. He couldn't feel the pain, but he knew the pain was there.
He felt his body ease into the table they rolled him on. His head resting on a pillow and his back pressed up against the bed. His eyes only seeing the ceiling lights as they temporarily blind him, sending images of doctors wearing light-blueish green scrubs. Ready for operations.
He wiggles his fingers, confirming he was still awake and alive. He couldn't really move anything else besides his toes. Whatever drugs they have him on were working. Izuku was exhausted. He just wanted to sleep for eternity.
He blinks but when he opens his eyes he was being rolled into a door.
The operating room.
Izuku was dazed and halfway didn't know what was going on, but he was wishing for something. Someone.
He felt his body being rested on another table. He felt hands move around him and he vaguely remembered he was nude. A warm blanket resting slightly above his abdomen, as something cold was smeared across his chest and stomach.
"Can you hear me? Midoriya Izuku?" a doctor asks and Izuku nodded his head sluggishly. "Good, good. There's nothing to worry about. We're going to put you under, alright? It won't hurt, I promise. You will just feel really sleepy and then lights out. Okay?"
"Okay..."
"Good, now could you count down from twenty with me?" the doctor kindly asked as they gently rubbed Izuku's head. Izuku felt a pinch on his left shoulder. That was definitely a needle. Izuku nodded his head and started counting down.
Twenty
Izuku felt his mask being taken off and replaced with a new one. A new oxygen mask, possibly to help him through the operation. Izuku was still terrified, but he almost felt as if everything was going to be okay.
Nineteen
Izuku heard the snap of gloves and water running. He heard feet shuffling and blurred out voices.
Eighteen
Izuku was suddenly feeling more tired and tired by the second.
Seventeen
"Get me some gauze, please" a doctor said and Izuku saw the tiny exchange, almost forgetting he was counting.
Sixteen
Izuku was still scared.
Fifteen
Izuku blinked.
Fourteen
How much time had past? He wasn't sure but he didn't know if he was counting anymore. It almost didn't seem necessary as he heard the doctor counting with him as well.
Thirteen
Izuku felt pressure on his chest. Someone had placed their gloved hand there, Izuku wanted to freak out, but he was too far gone to even come close to panicking.
Twelve
His vision started to go dark.
Eleven
What was he missing?
Ten
Oh, right! He was getting surgery because he had hanahaki.
Nine
He loved someone.
Eight
Izuku's head fell slightly to one side, but he felt the doctor keep his head up and open his mouth.
Seven
A tube was inserted, but he didn't have enough energy to even cough from the discomfort.
Six
Izuku felt the world around him tip.
Five
He felt like he was floating.
Four
He breathed in...
Three
He breathed out...
Two
He closed his eyes...
One
Lights out.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Izuku was flat on his back when he opened his eyes. His body felt warm and whatever he was laying on was soft. Izuku sat up and saw nothing but clouds for miles. A whole sky full of clouds. The ground soft and puffy. Clouds.
Izuku stood up, once again not wearing shoes. He smiled. "I guess this is the beginning to an end..." Izuku said to nobody. He started to walk across the clouds.
He fell through one of the clouds and screamed but was bounced back up. He saw the sunrise and his eyes didn't burn like they would have if it was real. He was then falling again and he felt his stomach drop.
There was a pressure on his chest before he bounced upon the clouds once more. He laughed. And he was suddenly falling back down on the cushion.
"Clip the roots on his left lung,"
What?
Izuku's eyes widened and there were no more clouds. He was falling. His eardrums suddenly filled with the sound of clipping and sawing wood.
Izuku felt like screaming. The sound was so loud he forgot he was falling until he was about to hit the ground.
His hand was grasped. He looked up to see Katsuki. Katsuki had grasped his hand and smirked down at him. "Don't leave me so soon nerd,"
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Katsuki looked inside the glass, watching doctors with Izuku. "You're not supposed to be back here," someone calls out.
Katsuki spun around and he was fidgety. That's a first, right?
"He's going to be okay," she suddenly said. Katsuki had a blank face. He honestly didn't know what to say or how to feel. "I know it's scary whenever someone you love goes into surgery, but it's better to focus on the positive than the negative."
"I'm the reason he's in surgery..." Katsuki says as he feels tears prick his eyes.
"Lots of people blame themselves in situations like these. It's not anyone's fault that he's in there. Those are some of are best doctors. Some specialists as well. They know what they're doing, I promise,"
"I love him. I love him and he won't be able to love me anymore..." Katsuki whispered. His face felt warm and his eyes blurred over. Suddenly his hands were filled with something soft.
A tissue.
"Let me tell you a story," she started. "I knew someone who was everything to me. She was in a relationship with someone, and she wasn't happy but when we were together the world was on fire. In a good way. We got into many arguments because she was my best friend and I was receiving mixed feelings. I got sick. Really sick and I had surgery, but she confessed. She loved me. And I still love her. We're engaged and I still feel like I fell in love all over again."
Katsuki's eyes widened. Was Izuku going to be okay?
"Listen honey, that boy in there will be fine," she cooed.
"How do you know that?" Katsuki said sharply.
"I have a gut feeling," she said as she walked into the operating room. Katsuki's mouth dropped a bit. She was a specialist.
Katsuki walked back to the waiting room and almost laughed. She knew Izuku had hanahaki, and she was going to fix him. Katsuki wipes away his tears and harshly threw away the tissue. He felt disgusting crying like that. He was never one to convey his feelings to a complete stranger.
Katsuki sat down and Inko gave him an encouraging wet smile. "He will be okay,"
"I'm sorry..." Katsuki started. "I was such an ass to him. I still am. I'm trying to be better, and I probably won't ever change my attitude but I'll change for him. I know you must be disappointed in me, anyone would be. I wouldn't blame you. I'm the one to blame..."
Inko was quiet for a minute before taking a deep breath and exhaling. "I would be lying if I said I wasn't concerned about you two. And even more about your feelings, but I respect your growth. I can see why you want to change. I'm also witnessing that change happen. But you'll need to prove that you've changed for him, and he needs to make those decisions for himself. I may be his mother, and I may not agree with him all the time, but it is his life and I need to respect his choices. And I can respect yours as well. Thank you for that, Katsuki," said Inko.
Katsuki said nothing, but the two came to an understanding. Katsuki had to see how Izuku was going. He was too anxious waiting here. Katsuki closed his eyes, and focused on Izuku.
"Kacchan..." Izuku whispers with tears in his eyes.
"Sorry I'm so late," Katsuki replies with a smirk. Izuku feels his heart melt and a pool of warmth in his chest. Katsuki pulls Izuku up on the cloud and the two stare down at the endless void.
"I thought I was about to hit the ground..."
"When I got here all I saw was a falling dork,"
Izuku scowl at him and the two laugh. "Thank you for visiting me during my surgery. I'm really scared..."
"I know, but you'll get through it. You're pretty strong for a nerd,"
"Was that a compliment?!" Izuku asked bewildered.
"DON'T GET USED TO IT!" Katsuki hollers and Izuku laughed. One thought kept creeping into his mind: Will I still be able to dream?
The two start walking as the sky started to grow darker. The two kept walking and Izuku suddenly stopped. He dropped to his knees and tried to breath but his lungs felt like they were being tampered with.
"What's going on with his lung?"
Izuku's hearing goes blank.
"I'm not sure, the vines... they're becoming rotten. How is this possible?!"
"Deku!?"
Izuku's breathing is hard, and labored. Something is happening. He can feel it. He can physically feel the flowers blooming and moving. He can feel the thorns shriveling up. He wants to itch.
"Don't be alarmed, this happens rarely,"
"Deku!"
Izuku reaches for his chest and claws at his shirt. He can still feel the movement of flowers slowly, oh, so slowly blooming.
"Keep cutting, this won't last long."
Izuku starts to scratch.
"Deku! Stop!"
He keeps scratching. Harder and harder.
Itch... itch... itch...
"Please, Deku! Stop scratching!"
Itch itch itch!
Scratch scratch scratch!
Izuku's tears boil over and they feel like molten lava cascading down his cheeks as he feels tiny buds and sprouts pushing through his red tender flesh. He can vividly imagine it. The bright green buds blooming into varies colors of orange shades. Pushing through his lungs as if his veins were the source for the roots. The roots spread and suck up his blood.
Suck up his soul. His life force. Everything.
He digs his nails into his skin, taking his hand, going under his shirt and clawing at his skin. He wouldn't stop scratching. He wants to touch his lung, feel the slimy substance fall through his fingers as he rips out each individual flower and vines that grew in its place.
His skin didn't hurt as bad when he scratched, but he didn't understand how he could still feel. He doesn't want to feel. He doesn't want to feel. He doesn't want to feel.
He wants his feelings to stop. Everything. He wants it to stop. Make it stop. Make it stop. Please, make it stop. Please... please... please!
"PLEASE, MAKE IT STOP!"
"D... D...u... ku... De...u,"
Izuku feels another hand go under his shirt and grab his wrist firmly, but gently. The hand drags his own hand onto his thigh, that warm gentle hand still holding onto his own.
"De...ku... D...Ku... Deku... Deku, can you hear me?"
Kacchan...
His voice was calm and almost in a hushed whisper. Night had fallen and the two weren't on clouds anymore. They were sitting on salt flats once more, and the sky was once the galaxy they both shared.
"Deku, please? Squeeze my arm if you can hear me..."
Izuku closes his eyes and tries to sit up, but ends up sitting next to Katsuki. He then falls to the side. And his head was on Katsuki's lap, as he let the warm air around them calm his nerves.
"Deku, what the hell..."
Izuku continued to let the glass fall from his eyes as they fall onto Katsuki's pants. He pants as his sobs start to reincarnate, and the lump in his throat this time wasn't a flower. It was agony.
"What just happened?"
Izuku was quiet for a bit too long, and Katsuki began to worry as he started to run his fingers through Izuku's impossibly soft hair. "I think," Izuku started softly, "I think I can feel the surgery..." Katsuki's eyes widened as he looked at Izuku bewildered. His mouth opens a bit, trying to formulate words but Izuku beats him to it. "I heard doctors talking... Kacchan..."
"Hmm?" Katsuki hums, letting Izuku know he could continue.
"Am I... going to die?" Izuku asked and Katsuki briefly stopped brushing Izuku's hair with his fingers, and stiffened up a bit. He inhaled and restarted his routine, and exhaled as he answered Izuku's question.
"No. I'm not letting that happen. Especially to my rival,"
Izuku giggles softly and it was like tiny kisses to Katsuki's eardrum, "You're funny..."
"I know,"

Izuku smiles once again, enjoying the soft quiet the two were in. Katsuki's hands were like little tingles on Izuku's scalp, and he was very relaxed. For the first time in weeks, even before his diagnosis, he had been stressed. Izuku felt like crying again because of how overwhelming he was. "I heard you..."
Katsuki suddenly stopped, and he takes his hand and brushes a big head full of hair near Izuku's ear, slightly turning the boys head so they were facing each other. "Why didn't you say anything then?" Katsuki asked genuinely, with a soft chuckle.
Izuku smiles sadly and enjoys the moment as it is. He wanted to treasure Katsuki's touch as he was about to tell him, "I love you... Always have always will, I doubt anything could change that. Not even if you wanted to actually kill me, I would still love you. And what I r-really want you to know is that... if I lose my feelings for you, I wanted to have the memory of being able to tell you before I lost them for good."
"Deku—"
"I felt that kiss..."
Everything went quiet and Katsuki was stunned. Izuku sits up and Katsuki follows his gaze, as Izuku's heart trampled on the tracks.
Flowers started to grow on the ground, and water fell from the heavens. A cloud lifted the two up, flowers growing around and below them.
The sky showing the beautiful sun with a star-like sunset. Very out of the ordinary, and unique. The rain that fell shone like crystals reflecting light. The rainbow glowing off of them as they fell to the ground, growing flowers in their place.
Suddenly, red rose petals started to fall from the sky, smoking as they were about to be set ablaze. The ground once again mirroring the sky while flowers grew, like a maze.
"I'm not sure if you did it because you feel the same... but I wish I could feel it aga—"
Just like magic, in an instant everything can change. From the highest mountain, to the deepest sea. From blue bees and galaxy's... the world changed.
For the both of them.
The sky lit up with soundless fireworks, but they burned so bright in the sky. Sitting on a bed made of cotton and wool, was a cloud. A puff here and a puff there, it was puffy everywhere.
The petals bloomed as their lips collide, with each other every stride. Every step, every mistake, the world was theirs to take.
Leaning in, leaning deep, there are flowers that like to creep. Behind your ear, inside your nose, that's where it blossomed, that cute little rose.
Tears are shed, they fall so freely, let the wind carry them away. It picks up, and blows their skies, so high, so so high, everyday.
The feeling light, and buzzing in every nerve of his body. He can feel the love that pours out from his lips. From his toes to his fingertips. Intertwined, and so warm many may say. What do they call this?
Love... Love all the way...
