~A Bakudeku Love Story~
03 - Hanahaki
Word Count: 3,369
Warnings: Profanity, blood, panic attack, hallucinations
Information: Izuku will be having vivid dreams!!
Izuku woke up the next morning feeling fine. This was now somewhat amusing to the green fellow as he laughed in shame. How this cycle would continue. He glanced at his clock and sat up. His eyes widened. He was late for school. He stood up but then remembered. He was ordered to stay in bed for a day. He groaned loudly and flopped back down onto his bed.
Izuku was agitated that he had to stay in the dorms, but on the bright side that gave him time to search up his symptoms. He knew he shouldn't trust the internet. It wasn't always correct, but he couldn't exactly go to anyone without them worrying for him. He wanted to, he really did but he was scared.
Everyone had to be at school by now, so Izuku didn't have to worry about hiding his predicament. Izuku got up and walked to the kitchen. Something was resting on the counter. Izuku got curious and walked over to it.
Here shitty nerd! I know you aren't feeling well so the rest of the soup is in the fridge. Have as much as you'd like. I made you a fruit bowl. Don't ask me why. Pink Cheeks helped me with it. Damn, she's persistent isn't she? Don't go doing something that will get you killed! Have a good day slacking!
-Kacchan
Izuku smiled. A real smile. One that he didn't have to force or hide behind pain. Katsuki had made him breakfast. And he had "let" Uraraka help him. But what got Izuku the most was the signature. Katsuki didn't sign it "Katsuki," "Bakugo" or a continued the two. He signed it as "Kacchan."
Izuku felt his heart become warm but it was quickly replaced by a sharp pain. Izuku dropped to the floor as his knees hit the ground harshly. He squeezes his eyes shut as he grips the front of his shirt.
Izuku concludes that this happened more often now. He decides to eat the fruit and keep the note that Katsuki wrote him. Izuku proceeds to clean up and walk back to his room. He walks over to his laptop and opens it up. Izuku grabs his phone and looks at the messages he didn't see that were sent to him this morning.
Uraraka: Heya Deku! I hope you feel better. And remember, if you need anyone to talk to you can talk to me. I'm here for you! I also know a great soup recipe so let me know if you want it!! 😊
Izuku smiled, Uraraka was a really good friend.
Iida: Make sure you get plenty of rest! I will help you study if you'd like, we don't have much to do today. Taking notes, and well, endurance training. We are probably dressing in our hero suits and going to work on our quirks. I wish you were here, but your health is more important. Get some rest!
Kirishima: Hey man! Just wanted to let ya know if you need help with anything, I'm your guy! We're worried for you! So don't be afraid to ask us for help!
Izuku smiled once more.
Kaminari: Sorry you missed out on today. I know you will be back on your feet soon! I'll save some food for you when you're up for it. I also have a big bag of chips I've been dying to break into. So let me know when you wanted to do that
Izuku laughed. A full-heartedly laugh that made his emotions go rapid. Kaminari was a great friend. Maybe a bit dumb, but he worked harder than a lot of people to get where he is now. That's something Izuku respects about him.
Todoroki: Hello Midoriya. Text me if you need anything. I hope you feel better soon.
Izuku smiled once again. Shōto Todoroki was and still is one of Izuku's greatest friends.
Izuku shuts his phone off and searches up "throwing up blood" on his laptop.
Search: Vomiting blood
Results:
. Stomach Ulcer
. Esophageal varices
. Alcohol abuse
. Blood disorder
. Mallory-Weiss syndrome
*3,00+ pages*
Izuku didn't believe any of these results were what he was really looking for. A part of him was still in denial. What if he was just seeing the blood? Like one of his hallucinations? After that thought, he groaned in frustration and rubbed his face.
He then makes his second search.
Search: Vomiting flower petals
One search result....
Hanahaki.
But that one search result was home to 10,000+ articles, videos, blogs, etc.
Izuku's heart almost flew out of his chest. An overwhelming feeling washed over him and he gripped his stomach as his eyes blurred. His breathing was off. He had learned about Hanahaki in school a numerous amount of times. It's not like he wasn't subjected to it, but his mind was swirling that he didn't know where his mindset was.
Izuku took a few deep breathes and decided to brush up on some history. The more he read the more loud the quietness was in the dorms. Izuku hadn't realized he had been freaking out and reading and re-reading articles for hours. He heard everyone come back and a smile planted on his face.
Izuku got up and stretched. He didn't realize how sore his muscles were going to be. He almost laughed at his pitiful self.
Izuku walks out of his room and greets everyone. Some where asking how he was doing, while others had small chats. Izuku didn't even eat lunch yet, then again he wasn't feeling up to food much.
Izuku decided to eat some more soup. He walked to the fridge and made himself a bowl. As he ate he watched as some people sat on the couches, and some watched videos on their phones. Others were discussing what happened today. Izuku felt left out, but he had strict orders from Recovery Girl.
Izuku watches Katsuki walk in with his usual scowl. Izuku couldn't avert his eyes. They glazed over Katsuki's form in a way that was way past the friend-zone.

Almost in slow motion, Katsuki walks into the kitchen and grabs a water. He was already in some more comfortable clothes, not wearing his school uniform anymore. Izuku could see sweat drip from his hair — no, it was water. He must have just gotten out of the shower. Katsuki cards a hand through his hair and Izuku watches in anticipation as the water droplets plot down onto the floor from his damp hair. Katsuki's skin was clear, and his arms rippling with masculinity.
Izuku watches as Katsuki takes a sip of the water and suddenly the world didn't matter. All his focus was on Katsuki. His 'Adam's apple' bobbing up and down as he drank the water. A bit of water drips from his lips and Izuku subconsciously licks his lips, almost as if he could taste the clear liquid.
Izuku gulps, as his heart races. Katsuki sets down his drinks and stretches. Watching his muscles move was something erotic, something Izuku couldn't place his finger on. Katsuki then turned around to grab and apple. And that V line...
Izuku didn't even realize he was gawking until Uraraka touches his shoulder. He flinched sharply and looked towards her shocked. "Sorry, Deku-kun! I didn't mean to startle you,"
"No, no it's fine. I was just," Izuku looks towards Katsuki once again as he was walking away from the persistent Kirishima, "zoning out..."
Uraraka looks at Izuku with a concerned look. She was hoping her friend was okay, considering he's been acting different for the whole week. "Are you okay?" she questions thoughtfully. Her soft voice made Izuku's heart hurt. She was being so supportive and kind, how could he not have fallen in love with something like her? It would have been easier.
"Y-yeah, I'm okay. Just stressed," Izuku replies.
"You know you can always talk to me..."
"Yeah, I know. Thank you for thinking about me, it really means a lot to me."
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Night came and Izuku didn't want to eat at all. His stomach was in knots. Every time he breathed nausea came crashing down with a new force. He was curled up on the couch. Mostly everyone went to bed, or they were staying up studying or playing video games.
Izuku felt completely and utterly alone. He knew he was sick. He knew he needed help. He knew he had hanahaki. He knew he would die. Die if he didn't get the surgery.
"Unrequited love... what a bunch of bullshit," Izuku whispers to himself.
"What was that?" asked Kirishima suddenly. Izuku whipped around and watched as Kirishima had his hands on his hips, looking like he just finished cleaning.
"O-oh, haha, nothing. Just some weird article I read this morning about relationships," Izuku says.
"I just read an article about soulmates. It was interesting, but kind of sappy. I couldn't tell if I liked it or not."
"Yeah... same."
Then quiet. It was awkward, and the two didn't know what to say to each other. "I should probably get to bed. I have to catch up tomorrow anyway," Izuku suddenly says.
"Oh! That reminds me," Kirishima says and he walks over by the couch. He grabs a red bag and pulls out a packet. "This is the homework for tonight. It's just a review of how our own quirks work. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to handle it."
Izuku grabs the packet and gratefully thanks Kirishima. Kirishima then walks back to his room and Izuku stood up and started walking to his. His vision startled to tunnel and vines grew everywhere. Roses planted themselves along the walls and the vines circled his feet. Izuku backed away but it was as if the vines chased him.
Izuku felt like an animal at bay, and he couldn't escape the maze of flowers that grew around him. He felt the thorns scratch up his legs and roses bloomed on his skin. His veins popping out and splitting open as thorns and rose buds find their way there.
Izuku backed up into a wall and rubbed his arms. Flowers dropped but they were instantly replaced by newer, fresher, brighter ones. Izuku's breathing was deep and staggered. Fast and heavy. His eyes filled with tears and he gripped his hair. He tugged and pulled as the hallway was nothing but a black endless voice, filled with vines, moss, greenery, and flowers.
Izuku pushes off the wall and drops to the floor. He sat on his side and he felt his body weaken. Someone came running up to him. All Izuku saw was red. They were wearing red. Was it Kirishima? He was just there talking with him. He even looked the same. Izuku couldn't tell at this point as his vision was spotty and he felt his body being shaken. His eyes close as he drifts off into an endless hibernation.

The sound of little feet is all that was heard in the forest. The deep green trees and bright green grass complimenting the sunset that cast upon the boys. Each step they take is another one into the unknown.
Their hands were locked together as the blonde dragged the greenette up the bumpy hill. The sun was setting and they were about to see the best view of all time. They weren't supposed to separate from their parents, but Katsuki insisted.
"C'mon Deku, we're almost at the top!"
"How much longer Kacchan?" Izuku complained.
"Just a little further," Katsuki replies.
The two keep walking until they come to a stop. Katsuki runs up and stopped. His smile grew wide and he turned to Izuku. He held his tiny hand out for Izuku to take. Izuku's eyes glisten as the sun was setting, giving the sky an orange-pinkish hue.
Izuku looked up at the sky and saw the many trees blend with the clouds. Izuku looks back at Katsuki, only, it wasn't little Katsuki anymore. This Katsuki was more mature and much older.
Izuku looked down at himself and realized he wasn't his younger self. Katsuki's hand was still waiting for Izuku's. Izuku smiled softly and slipped his scarred hand into Katsuki's. Katsuki lead him up the cobblestone stairs and held onto his hand tightly.
There was a field of flowers. So many colors but the ones that stood out most to Izuku were orange lilys. Izuku's eyes twinkled and tears fell. "They're beautiful..." Izuku breaths out.
"Very beautiful..." Katsuki whispers. Izuku turns to Katsuki, as his red eyes sparkled with something foreign.
Izuku felt the sun' last touches of light kiss his skin. And then he felt Katsuki kiss his lips. It was so delicate and soft. Izuku felt like spilling more tears. This feeling was everything he's ever wanted. Izuku pulls away and opens his eyes. Katsuki was covered in flowers and his eye was bulging out as a flower tried pushing its way out of it.
Izuku gasped sharply and ripped his hand away from Katsuki's. "What's wrong, Izuku?" Katsuki says in a manipulated voice. It sounded higher and lower at the same time. But his voice was still there. Three voices.
Katsuki stepped closer and Izuku moves back and he fell on his ass. He gets up but forgot that he was standing on a cliff. "Deku, are you okay?" Younger Katsuki asks with worry in his eyes. Izuku was back to his little self.
He almost fell of a cliff. Little Katsuki held out his hand once again and Izuku takes it. Once he does he stood up, brushing the dirt off his shorts. Izuku looks back up to little Katsuki only to see the same misfortune on his little face. Izuku screamed highly. And fell off the cliff.
Izuku gasped and he woke up in a cold sweat. Izuku then ran to where his trash was and threw up. No time for the bathroom, especially figuring out what he had. Izuku felt the petals slip out of his mouth and he was disgusted. The taste of blood never left his mouth. He was going to have to get used to it.
Izuku then looked around. He was in his room. The last thing he remembered... was someone help him through his panic attack. Izuku jumped up and almost sprang from his floor like a cat.
Izuku looks at the time. He had an hour before six in the morning. An hour to do whatever he needed to. The first was to throw up.
Izuku walked to the bathroom feeling his chest burn, but it hurt less than it did last night. Izuku walked into the bathroom and walked into a stall, already clenching his stomach. He sucked in a breath as he leaned forward and vomited. The petals were vivid and true.
There was no denying it now. He had hanahaki. There was crimson swirling down, coloring the water a tinted red. The bright petals were glowing and healthy. Feeding off of his love. Feeding off if his soul.
His heart hurt.
His soul hurt.
He was hurting. And it was only going to get worse.
Izuku flushed the toilet for the third time and walked out of the stall. His back aches after leaning for so long. He walked to the sink and gripped the counter. He looked up in the mirror, seeing small dark circles under his eyes. His green eyes didn't glow as brightly either.
Izuku brushes his teeth, not caring to buy himself a new one. He would just have to clean his brush thoroughly. He takes a few deep breaths and closes his eyes leaning on the sink. "Are you alright?"
Izuku turns his head to find Todoroki standing there. "Y-yeah... Just trying to convince myself to get ready..." Izuku says.
Anyone else would have mistaken that "get ready" for the day. Izuku took it completely different.
What was he getting ready for? Only time would tell.
🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
Izuku had a good breakfast this morning. The first one in awhile. He was ready to start walking to school but his two friends stopped him, so they could all walk together.
Iida, Uraraka, and Izuku all walked together. The pain he endured was washed away as he was now content with two important people in his life.
Izuku wanted this day to be good, so he was going to make it great. He was going to focus on the positives, even if it was easier said than done.
Everyone sat in their seats and people were happy to have Izuku Midoriya back in the game. Izuku was happy too, he actually forgot about his predicament for the time being.
"Okay class, we are having another quiz today," Aizawa states and almost everyone groans. Huh, this was a lot like déjà vu. "This quiz is just another review on your quirks."
Papers were given for them to pass to each other. The quiz began, and Izuku knew mostly everything. There were questions related to quirk history and how they were founded, but he knew all about that as well.
Once again, déjà vu strikes again. Izuku looks down to see a blood drop on his hand. He thought it might be another illusion but when he felt a tickle near his upper lip and tasted the blood, he freaked out. He suddenly jerked in his seat and some students turned around to look at him.
He stood up and started walking out of the classroom swiftly. "Midoriya..." Sero says and everyone's attention was focused on the greenette walking out of the room.
After Izuku left the classroom he bolted towards the bathroom. He was grateful no one had been in the halls to witness his panic. He made it to the bathroom and was once again graced with an empty bathroom. He walks over to the sink and watches his hands as more blood fell into the water.
It swirled down the drain. He dries his hands and takes paper towels and held them against his nose.
After five minutes his nose wouldn't stop bleeding and he started to feel light headed. He had thrown away so many tissues he'd lost count. Izuku goes to the wall by the sink and the trash and closes his eyes as he holds the towel to his nose. "Midoriya?" Todoroki says interrupting his freak out.
Izuku looked up towards Todoroki and saw he had fresh tissues. Izuku smiles sadly and takes them. He thanked Todoroki, throwing away his used ones and replacing them with fresh ones. "Sorry you had to come all the way here to check on me..." Izuku apologizes.
"It's fine. It's not like the bathroom is far from the classroom anyway," Todoroki states.
Izuku flushes from embarrassment before coughing. He covers his mouth with his arm and coughs a few more times before the sharp tickle subsided.
An awkward silence filled the bathroom, and soon the bleeding stopped and Izuku threw away the tissues. He proceeded to wash his hands but saw blood rush from the water. His eyes widen and backs away. And shakes his hands. He wipes them in his uniform pants and almost forgot Todoroki had been closely watching him. Izuku then swiftly turned off the sink.
"Are you okay? And when I ask, I really mean it. What's wrong?" Todoroki says as he walks closer to Izuku.
"I'm fine," Izuku replies.
"I've said that lie many times to know you aren't," says Todoroki. Izuku's mouth opens a bit but the words are caught in his throat.
"I-I can't talk about it..." Izuku says cowering a bit. He felt like he was being cornered. Someone was bound to find out. Right? Or could he keep it under wraps?
"Do you want to—" Todoroki starts before Izuku cuts him off.
"No," Izuku bluntly states. His tone was sharp and serious. Todoroki stepped back a little, feeling like he overstepped. "I don't want Recovery Girl knowing about this."
"Knowing that you had a nose bleed, or her knowing that you have hanahaki?"
