"How long have you kept this from me?"

"Alex, I can explain-"

"How. Long."

John rubbed his arm.

"Around five months." He mumbled

Alex groaned and ran a hand through his hair.

"Are you serious? So you're telling me, that when I was trying to figure out who this flower was for, you knew that it was you the whole time. Unbelievable. Yes, I'm happy you feel the same way, but why couldn't you have just told me? It would've saved both of us a lot of trouble!"

"Alex, I-"

"And just to think that I thought you were actually helping me. Were you trying to get rid of me?"

"Alex that's not-"

"Is it just that embarrassing to even be around me? Why didn't you tell me? Why am I just now finding o-"

"BECAUSE OF THIS." John yelled. "THE FIGHTING, THE YELLING, I DIDNT WANT ANY OF IT TO HAPPEN."

Alex stopped his pacing and stared at John, his eyes widening. John took a breath to calm himself down.

"I d-didn't, I didn't want it to go like this. I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I don't know why, but I was scared. Scared of having the same experience as before, scared because it was you, my best friend, scared to just be in love again."

He sat down on his bed, pulling his legs up to his chest. Alex went over and sat next to him, staying quiet. They both just sat there for a moment before Alex leaned his head on John's shoulder.

"I'm sorry, too. I should've known that you'd have a reason. I probably made it worse when I came in and started getting mad."

"I-it's fine, I would've acted the same way."

More silence followed. It seemed like everything had stopped moving. But it was ok like that. It was just them, squished together on John's bed still in their suits from prom. But they were fine with that. John moved his arm around Alex and started running his fingers through his hair. Alex looked up when John let out a big breath.

"What is it?"

"I just, and gosh this is gonna sound so cliche but, out of everyone, how on Earth did you end up falling in love with me?"

"Well, you're very easy for me to talk to, and we have a lot in common so it was easy to really get close to you. And I love how you'll stand up for anyone, but at the same time will fight someone at the drop of a hat." He shifted to fully look at John. "You also have very pretty eyes."

"Please, I'm sure they're nothing compared to yours."

"Are we seriously about to have a meaningless argument, because if we are, I'm still gonna win."

"I beg to differ."

"Then beg."

"Alex I swear to God."

Alex just laughed. "But seriously. I love everything about you. Why do you ask?"

"I mean, I'm not exactly the easiest person to put up with."

Alex moved out of John grasp and sat in front of him. "John, if I've been able to put up with all of your crazy antics for five years and fall in love with you in the process, I think it'll last a long time. I don't ever want you to doubt my love for you."

"Ok. I guess we're both in the same boat then."

Alex laughed, moving forward again and hugging him. As John wrapped his arms around him, he pulled them down to where Alex was laying on top of him. Niether one had noticed how tired they were when they both fell asleep like that.

And when they woke up, Alex was still there with him.
