May 2020

It was calm and quiet on a hot, humid day in May. Mingi had just returned home from work, Seonghwa had just finished cleaning the kitchen and folding laundry. Both turned in for the night when Mingi returned home, both fell fast asleep once their heads hit the pillows.

That is, until an hour after falling asleep, they awoke to the sound of glass breaking. Seonghwa was the first to wake up, this pregnancy made him become a light sleeper now. He thought it was a dream at first, and his muscles loosen up from being tensed when he heard something thud in the next room.

He reached an arm back, "Mingi!"

Mingi's snores grew louder, making Seonghwa scoff, "Mingi!!" He whispers harshly, shaking the younger.

"It's too early," Mingi mumbles in his sleep, trying to pull the covers over his head.

"Mingi! Babe!" Seonghwa's voice was cracking in fear, tears building up in his eyes.

At the tone of his voice, Mingi instantly wakes up and rolls over to him, sitting up, "What's-"

"I think someone is breaking into our house," Seonghwa whispers, pointing to the door, "I heard glass breaking and a loud thud!"

Mingi frowns, listening carefully. None of them made a sound, not even breathed for a moment and Mingi heard something fall and crash onto the floor. Seonghwa gasps, covering his mouth with one hand while the other cups his belly. Mingi gets out of bed quickly, walking over to the closet and producing a metal baseball bat, it was the only thing they had for protection wise.

Damn if only he had a gun.

"Hide in the closet," Mingi whispers, holding the bat up, "And call 911."

Another crash was heard down the hall when Mingi opened the door and Seonghwa quietly moves from the bed to the closet, dialing 911 as he done so. Mingi sneaks quietly down the hallway, trying to avoid squeaky floorboards and trying to keep his ears and eyes open.

He heard rustling from the living room, as if someone is rummaging through a desk, and listened for any whispers. The sound of glass crunching beneath shoes sent shivers down Mingi's spine as he held the bat tighter in his hands.

"Where is it!?" A voice hisses in the darkness. Mingi's eyes were well adjusted now to the darkness of their house, he knew exactly where to go. He passes by the front door, seeing it is wide open and the glass was busted out by the doorknob.

He takes a quiet, deep breath as he sneaks into the living room. There in the corner, just between him and this person hissing and rummaging in their desk drawer was the couch. Mingi ducks down behind it, crawling quietly behind it and listened as the voice hisses.

"Come on where the fuck are you? You shouldn't be clever enough to hide something like this!" It hisses quietly, slamming the drawer shut and moving on.

Mingi takes a leap of faith, and right before the figure can move to the next room, he jumps up with the bat and hits whatever, or whoever it is right in the back. The dark figure goes down with a cry, holding it's back where Mingi hit him until the red head hits him again right in the arm.

They fall to the floor, Mingi kicks whoever it is as hard as he can in the ribs. It would've been better if he wore his boots to really damage the mother fucker who thought it was a good idea to break into their home.

Something heavy clanked on the ground and when Mingi turned to it, he seen the shining barrel of a 9mm pistol in the moonlight. He instantly kicks it away from the hooded figure, and hits him once more in the legs with baseball bat.

"Stop please!! I'm begging you!" The figure cries, Mingi brings the bat down again on his knee, hearing a sickening crack of bones possibly breaking.

At that moment, red and blue lights liter the house walls through the windows and Mingi lets out a breath of relief, keeping the bat in his hands ready to whack the figure down below him. He looks down to see if he can see the sorry mother fucker's face, and when he does his eyes widen, "You seriously broke into our home to look for those papers didn't you?!"

The man below him, Seonghwa's father, was breathing heavily, but he nods to Mingi's question. The police enter the home, and Mingi stepped away from him before pointing to the gun he kicked aside, "There's a firearm, possibly loaded."

"Mingi!?" Seonghwa calls from down the hall and Mingi turns to him, seeing he's only in a T-shirt, holding his small belly while he cries.

Mingi walks over to him, dropping the bat and turning on the lights for the officers before bringing his distraught fiancé into his arms. He looks over to the front door, seeing the glass that was beside it was covered in blood from when Seonghwa's father probably busted it with his hand and cut his hand.

He shushes Seonghwa, watching as they take him outside to their vehicle in handcuffs. One officer comes over to them after making them sit down on the couch, "Did you know this man?"

"Yes," Seonghwa sighs, taking a sip of the water Mingi brought to him, "He's my father."

"Has be been here before?" The Officer asks, grabbing his pad of paper from his vest pocket and writing these down.

Seonghwa nods, "Shortly after my mother died in February, he wanted us to get out of this home because it was his. But the papers and her will both say everything belongs to me. He must have been after those papers, but I don't have them here."

"Where would they be? Do you know?"

"I left them with the lawyer to keep them on file, just in case," Seonghwa shakes his head, sighing tiredly, "I don't know what possessed him to think I have them here because I don't."

"I don't know baby," Mingi whispers, kissing his temple, "We changed the locks and everything when he made his first appearance in February, he just busted the window to unlock it..."

The officer nods, "Well, he's going to jail for the night, and if you want to press charges we can do so."

"I want that fucker to rot in jail," Seonghwa looks to the officer, "I'm pregnant and if he breaks in again he's liable to kill me and my baby."

"I understand," the officer nods, standing and leaving with everyone else, "We'll take care of him from here."

"Thank you," Mingi nods, shaking hands with them all before they leave. Seonghwa sighs tiredly again, putting his head in his hands. Mingi wraps an arm around his waist, "Come on, let's go to bed."

"I don't know if I can sleep after that Min..." Seonghwa whispers, sniffling and wiping his eyes.

"I know, but he's gone away in their cars. He'll be in jail tonight. Come on, let's go to bed," Mingi stands his fiancé up and kisses his forehead, "Baby needs sleep."

Seonghwa snorts, "Fine, but I'm locking our bedroom door and propping our dresser in front of it."

"That's perfectly okay," Mingi chuckles, leading his fiancé to bed. Seonghwa laid down and Mingi kisses him, "You sleep, I'll clean that mess up in there."

"What, but Min-"

"No," Mingi points to him, "Sleep."

Seonghwa rolls his eyes, pulling the blanket up to his chin and sighing. Mingi kisses his cheek before turning to leave the room and to go clean up the broken glass by the front door.
