Prologue | News, Orange Juice and Misunderstandings

"Guess there is something, and there is nothing
There is nothing in between"

Tap tap. Flora Primrose was tapping and humming along a song she was listening to while finishing homework for history class. You would always find the youngest Primrose doing either that or reading at the library. Once her roommate, Bianca Barclay, and her squad walked inside their dorm put Flora her headphones down and tried to take part in the conversation. "I've heard she killed a boy and that's why she's switching to Nevermore.", said Kent his theory and sat down besides Flora. "What are you talking about?", questioned the girl, her eyes not leaving the worksheet. "Haven't you heard Flower?" "Heard what?", asked Flora again, still not looking up. Kent pushed the paper down, raising his eyebrows. "We're getting a new student." Those news made her look away from the homework. "No way. Nobody comes mid semester. Nobody!", exclaimed the girl and she exchanged looks with her friends.

"Well, it looks like Weems changed her mind about that.", added Yoko to the conversation and plopped besides Flora, making the girl to lay back on her lap. "This girl must be really interesting then. For Weems to take her in like that. Damn." "She's not interesting. That girl is probably some weird kid whose antisocial and needs friends.", said Bianca suddenly, a hint of jealousy in her voice. Flora chuckled. "Don't be like that, Bia. We're all weird in our own way.", answered the brunette and got up. She walked to her friend and embraced her in a tight hug while kissing her cheek. "And you are the most interesting out of all. Don't let something like that ruin your mood." Divina noticed the clothes her friend was wearing. "Where are you off to?" "I'm going out with Rowan. He decided to get a coffee and asked if I wanted to go too.", explained Flora and put on her coat and fixed the collar.

"Flower needs her vitamin C.", said Ajax and winked at the girl, getting a wink in exchange along with a finger gun gesture. "Don't stay out too late. Your sister will go cuckoo bananas again.", warned Yoko her friend and rolled her eyes. Flora couldn't see it but she just knew that Yoko did that. The brunette only gave a thumbs up and left the room and her friends. Bianca shared a look with her friends. "Does she know that she agreed to go on a date with Rowan?" The rest shook their heads. "Flower never gets the hints." "She rejected your kind gestures.", reminded Ajax Kent with a hint of sarcasm behind the word 'kind'. Kent only threw a pillow at him. "Shut up, mate!"

"I'm late!", heard Rowan his best friend to shout. "I'm so sorry. Had to tell my sister quickly." The boy only smiled. "You're not late. Besides, we have to walk 25 minutes." "Right. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to put on those.", mentioned Flora and pointed towards her high knee boots. Both chuckled at the comment and prepared to leave the school. Rowan offered his arm which Flora immediately took. "Off we go, Miss Primrose."

Halfway there, both teenagers talked about everything. School, books, poetry, science and all the other stuff teenagers talked about. They arrived at the coffee shop in Jericho and ordered their drinks. "One coffee and one orange juice on the way.", said Tyler Galpin, repeating the order. As Flora got her money put Rowan his hand up and stopped her. "I'm paying today." "If you insist.", said the girl and got the drinks while waiting for her friend. "Have a great night Tyler! See you tomorrow!" The coffee boy waved at the girl with a wide smile and continued to do his work.

Rowan and Flora walked beside each other, enjoying the cold weather of October. "Why orange juice?" "What?", asked Flora confused as she looked up from her drink. "You could've ordered anything and you always decide on orange juice." The brunette chuckled. "I need my vitamin C. I may get it from the sun but that doesn't work always. Besides, oranges are great! We used to grow them in our garden when I was little." Rowan nodded. "It reminds you of home. I get it." Silence fell upon for a while. Talking about home was a topic both kids avoided. "Are you excited about the new student?", asked the boy, picking up the conversation. "Yeah, I mean, who isn't? Fresh new faces are always exciting." "Right." Rowan opened the gate, letting the girl inside and then himself. He closed it and sprinted towards her.

"Thanks for the juice and the invitation.", said Flora and smiled brightly. Now or never. Rowan got his whole courage and finally asked the question of the questions. "Can I kiss you?" Flora blinked confused. "It's okay if you don't want to, I understand. It was stupid anyway to ask you out. God, I'm such an idiot. Xavier was right. This date wasn't it." "Date? This was a date?", interrupted the brunette quickly and smiled. Rowan nodded. Suddenly, the girl hugged him tightly. The boy returned the hug. "I had no idea." "Of course you didn't. That was my fault. I should've been more specific." "That's okay, Rowan, really. I feel flattered but I can't kiss you. Not now at least. I'm sorry." With that, walked Flora Primrose inside the school leaving a very disappointed Rowan behind.

A date? This was supposed to be a date? Did she gave off the wrong signals towards him? Oh my. Now he must think she doesn't like him. But she did. As a friend of course. Oh my, oh my, oh my! Deep into her thoughts while sipping her orange juice, Flora didn't saw where she was walking and bumped into one of her teachers. "I'm so sorry, Miss Thornhill.", said the girl and smiled lightly. "Oh, that's alright, Flora.", answered Marilyn and brushed over her dress. She noticed the look on one of her favorite students' face. "Is everything okay?" "Just a small inconvenience with a friend. That also involves my non existent love life." Marilyn looked taken back. "Too much information. Got it.", said the girl quickly and cursed herself inside for saying that out loud. "Well, I wish you luck with figuring that out.", chuckled Marilyn and petted Flora's shoulder gently. Before the woman could walk away, stopped the brunette her one more time. "What's the name of the new student? Everyone's been talking but I still got no name." Marilyn turned around with a smile plastered on her face. "Her name is Wednesday. Wednesday Addams."
