Smile

Pein let out an aggravated sigh. "Konan, please shut her up.", he ordered, barely able to restrain his anger. Sakura had been crying for almost half an hour for seemingly no reason. She wasnt hungry, didnt need too much attention, didn't need a diaper change, and was not hurt. Everytime she opened her eyes, she would seem to see something and burst into tears. Konan's efforts to calm her child were in vain.

The blue haired woman turned to her husband. "Perhaps you should try. Pein, you haven't even touched her since she was born. You can hold her using the blanket if you don't want her stealing your chakra.", she offered. Konan loved her daughter, even if she was strange and almost killed her. But, she also loved her husband and seeing how much hate he held for Sakura was almost unbearable. Their family was not supposed to be filled with hate.

"Nagato....its been three months since she was born. You've never even held her before. I understand that you're hurt, but you're still her father. She needs you and I'm just not enough. Some help would be appreciated.", she said calmly. Though she was actually upset at him. She understood the pain. She almost died and they both lost their son, their daughter needed help for what she was capable of, not to be shunned.

He of all people should know that.

Pain was silent as always. His wife couldn't tell if it was his way or saying no or if he was contemplating the idea. Either way, he was taking much too long.

She frowned and stood up with Sakura in her arms. The young one continued to scream and cry as she was carried over to her father. Pein glared at the baby and his wife as Sakura was shoved into his arms.

As soon as she opened her eyes again, she started to whine until her eyes caught on to her father. She calmed down a bit and sniffed, but was still clearly upset.

Pein furrowed his pierced brows as the creature in his arms stared at him. Both parents watched as Sakura, now feeling safe from what was bothering her, snuggled up in his arms and fell asleep.

Konan smiled. "She loves you.", she stated gently. Pein stared at the baby for a few more seconds before handing her back over to his wife.

"I could never love her. We are Akatsuki. She will have to learn her role as well."
------------------------------------------------------------------
Konan frowned as the baby coughed and sputtered. She gently pat her back and removed her from the breast she had been suckling for just a few moments.

"You barely drink anything. You're so tiny.", she worried slightly. It was hard for the new mother to get her baby to latch on and when she did she barely drank. Perhaps she should take her to the doctor, something clearly wasn't right.

She stopped parting her back as she heard a tiny burp and the familiar feeling of spit up on her shoulder. Bringing Sakura back around, Konan gave her a gentle smile.

"I love you. But as you grow older these words will grow scares from me. I'm afraid your father will isolate you as much as possible.", she informed her. Sakura only looked up, confused and curious by the unknown words.

Her big green eyes moved away from her mother's, seemingly looking past her. It only took a few seconds before she began to scream and cry. Being an observant ninja, she held her child close and whipped her head around.

For the first time, she finally saw it. There was an unrecognizable figure. It was dark and shadowy, all she could make out was bright pink eyes and a crooked smile. A piece of paper in the shape of a kunai flew from her cheek, and towards the figure. It easily dodged and giggled before disappearing.

Korman frowned and looked to Sakura worriedly. She began to bounce and hush her.

"It's okay now. Mama's here to protect you. Shhh.", she said gently to ease her child.

She glanced behind her.

What the hell was that?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Pein's eyes bore into Konan's. By now, the baby was asleep in her bassinet so Konan had a break.

"So you saw....a demon. And you think that's what is scaring it so badly. Do you beleive it is specifically after her?", he questioned

Konan frowned from his word usage referring to their child. "Yes. She was scared by it. Up until Sakura saw the figure she was fine.", she informed.

Pein narrowed her eyes. First, this child kills his son and almost takes his wife with him. Now, she has demons around her. She sighed.

"It's dangerous for you to be around her. I can tell you keep touching her directly. Your chakra reserves get low each time you hold her.", he stated. "And this....demon. If it hovers around her as you say perhaps it's best if she is left alone."

Konan matched his gaze with her own cold glare.

"What are you trying to say, Nagato?", she demanded.

"You need to limit your physical contact with her. And contact in general until she has some things under control. Use formula to feed her for now, from what I hear she barely feeds from you much anyways. The longer she is alone, the more she will grow used to it."

"Pein. This is my daughter....our daughter I'm not going to stop showing her the love she deserves.", she snapped

"Then get rid of it.", his booming voice demanded.

"I'm not killing her.", she spat

"I didn't nessacarily say to kill it. I wouldn't care if you left it at the entrance gates of the Hidden Mist Village. As my wife and partner, it's your job to continue to go on missions and bring peace to the world. We don't have time to babysit it all day."

"Pein, Sakura is just a baby. She can't be exposed to a life like that. She can't-", she was cut off before she could continue.

"The world shall know pain. That child is no exception."
