Your face shows up on the Sunday newspaper I usually skim. The day God rests and won't be able to crucify me for what I have managed to do. Your brother calls from the payphone and sobs to me of your death. He tells me you were in a church parking lot holding onto a flower that had been crushed by the fist. Hidden beneath the moss and ants crawling on you like the religion you savored, you were answered to death.

When you were ten you had won an award for the best attendance, though now in early mornings you rush to the bus late. Though when you were twelve you had been the fastest runner in your grade, outrunning the big kids who had come before you.

( maybe if you tried, you could have outrun the knife that clawed at you. )

I am sure when people had first warned you of my past, you had the nerve to say I was a nice boy and was to be given a fair chance. But I have known since I was five that nice boys don't watch girls with porcelain skin and diamond earrings get clawed in, screaming for their momma who have gone on tv, crying for their lost girls. They don't plan on killing you either.

I would like to say that I cried writing this, if that should offer any comfort. My brother would always say it was unusual for boys to cry as much as I do, but I only hope you see it as a sort of redeeming quality. If I have any left.

I hope my adoration for you will overbear the horror of what I have done to you.

I know for certain that I am a mistake of my mothers womb and an imbolice to my father's fragile state. Though I am not for certain if I had not tricked you into loving me or not.

I am sorry , honey, but I do know you will haunt me to death if that is what you wish.

I wish it as well.
