Kao's POV

Even after finding out that Cooheart was in room 5, I decided not to go and see him there. I did not want to cause any trouble between him and his current partner. However, I decided to keep my promise of calling him to let him know that I got safely here at the temple.

Cooheart answered on the first ring.

"Phi Kao!" the sound of his voice never failed to increase my heart rate. "Where are you? Are you here in the temple now?"

"Yes, I am," I replied. "I have not been assigned a room yet. I am here at the lobby waiting for my name to be called by the monk in charge.

"Wait for me there, Phi, I will come to you," I heard Cooheart say.

"No, no, no," I protested. "It's best, I think, that we don't see each other."

"Why?" Cooheart asked in a hurt tone of voice. "I don't see anything wrong with seeing each other. We're not going to do anything wrong."

"Please, Coo," I said in a pained voice. "It really would be better not to see each other. The important thing is that now you know that I got here safely."

I had not realized that even while we were talking on the phone Cooheart had been making his way to the lobby.

"Phi Kao!" he called out upon spotting me in the crowd.

Ohgahd, the sight of him walking towards me with that smile that made me weak in the knees made me lose my resolve.

I closed the distance between us and soon we were in each other's arms.

He didn't seem to mind that I was all wet and that I was making his clothes wet.

"Let me warm you, phi," he said, hugging me tight.

The feel of his warm body against mine made me forget everything that I told myself not to do.

I placed my hands on either side of his face.

"I still love you, Coo," I said, my voice quivering ever so slightly. "I love you so very much. I have never stopped loving you. I'm sure you know that."

He wisely did not respond to my declaration of love.

"I will wait here with you until the monk in charge assigns you a room number," he said. "Then I will accompany you to your room. I will come to see you in your room whenever I can."

"Do you think that's a good idea?" I asked, although deep inside I knew the answer to my own question.

"I don't see anything wrong with it," he replied.

He was about to say something more but the monk in charge called out my name and so we both hurried towards the reception desk where the monk in charge was going through his computer screen for rooms and names of all the people who had come for shelter.

"Kao?" he asked upon seeing me approach.

"Yes, I'm Kao," I replied, bowing to him with my hands clasped together.

"You can occupy room 6," said the monk in charge.

I heard Cooheart gasp behind me.

"What's wrong?" I asked him.

"That's right across my room," he said, his eyes wide with shock, but I could sense some excitement as well.

Well, if he wasn't feeling that, it was what I was feeling, excitement and anticipation. Of what, who knows. Or maybe I refused to hope for something that could never happen, not in my wildest dreams.
