Barcode's POV
I thought I would never make it to the top of the stairs leading to the lobby of the temple.
It must have been divine intervention that gave me the strength to reach the hundredth step.
It needed superhuman effort to be able to push open one of the heavy double wooden doors to get into the lobby.
There was so much noise and confusion inside the temple lobby.
People were crying, hugging each other, comforting each other, giving each other encouraging words... there was no one to give me any comfort. I cried all by myself.
I stood shivering just a step away from the door, unable to take another step forward.
Then suddenly my environment started to grow dim.
"Can you hear me? Can you hear me?"
Someone's voice brought me back to consciousness.
Someone was shaking me gently and trying to talk to me.
I slowly opened my eyes to see a very handsome face looking down at me with a very concerned expression.
A/N: The image above does not belong to me. It belongs to the person who uploaded it on the internet.
For those who might not know him, his name is Man Trisanu Soranun. He played the role of the boss Jeng in the BL series "Step by Step".
I realized that he was holding me in his arms. He was crouched on the lobby floor and my upper body was resting on his knees and his arms were cradling my shoulders.
"He's conscious now!" he announced to a monk who walked quickly towards us.
"Follow me." the monk said to my rescuer. "I have asked the monk in charge to assign both of you to room 10."
"No, no, I can walk." I protested when my rescuer tried to carry me.
"Are you sure?" he looked skeptical.
I took a step forward. My knees buckled on the second step.
Without hesitation my rescuer scooped me in his arms and followed the monk who was leading us through a narrow hallway.
The monk stopped near the end of the long hallway and opened a door that had the number 10 posted on it. He pushed the door open and stepped aside to let us in.
The room was empty. There were three large beds inside it.
"This room will have six occupants in it, two to a bed," the monk informed us. "There are dry clothes and towels in all the closets for the occupants to use and change into. The shower rooms can be found at the end of the hallway."
"Thank you," my rescuer said to the monk.
I echoed my thanks and the monk said "You're welcome" before walking away.
"You can set me down now," I said to my rescuer.
He did so and I said to him, "Thank you so much for kindly taking care of me."
"No problem," he replied. "By the way my name is Man, you can call me Phi, seeing as you look so much younger than me. How old are you, thirteen? Fourteen?"
"I'm twenty," I answered with a frown.
"Sorry," he said. "You don't look it but okay. So I have introduced myself, so what's your name?"
"I'm Barcode," I replied. "My friends call me Code for short."
"Is that how you want to be called?" he asked.
I nodded.
"Very well then," Phi Man said. "Let's go take our shower and get dry."
We gathered the dry clothes and towels from one of the three large closets and proceeded down the hallway in search of the shower rooms.
We used the empty ones that were next to each other.
I finished my shower ahead of Phi Man.
"I'm finished with my shower," I called out to him outside his shower room. "I will go back to our room now."
"Sure," he called back. "I'm almost finished rinsing myself. Go ahead and wait for me in our room."
When I reached room 10, I surveyed myself in front of a full length mirror that was placed between the middle bed and the bed closest to the door.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I realized that my hair was still wet and uncombed.
I looked around the room and saw a dresser. On its surface were six combs still in their individual packages. I picked up one of them and tore the package open to pull out the comb.
I was busy combing my hair in place when Phi Man walked into the room.
"I see you have busied yourself with aesthetics," he said with a teasing smile.
I looked at his uncombed hair.
"I suggest you do the same, Phi," I responded.
"I will do just that," he said, walking over to the dresser where the combs were. "By the way, which of the three beds were you planning to take?"
"The one that's against the wall," I replied quickly.
"Oh no, that's the one I was thinking of taking," he said, sounding disappointed.
"We can share it then," I said without thinking and then clapped a hand over my mouth.
There was a brief awkward silence before Phi Man spoke up.
"That doesn't sound like a bad idea," he said, noting the pink tinge on my cheeks.
I knew that he was only trying to put me back at ease but suddenly the thought of sharing a bed with him gave me butterflies in my stomach.
