Chapter 8- Funeral

Dick silently walked up to the podium where he would talk about Bruce. He said things about how Bruce was kind and cared for Dick when he took him in, he helped him on his homework and with his parents, he even got him pretty famous, but that wasn't what he really wanted to say. Some people attending the funeral didn't know the real Bruce. They didn't know him as the Batman, the protector of Gotham. And they didn't know the real Dick either. They only knew them as the rich playboy, Bruce Wayne and the circus orphan, Dick Grayson.

Dick wanted to talk about how Bruce was always there for him. He helped Dick by allowing him to become Robin, as well as put Tony Zucco, the man who murdered his family, in prison.

Bruce taught Dick how to defend himself. He stayed with Dick after a nightmare, and he was always so protective. He was even protecting Dick the night he was shot by the Joker and Dick ended up leaving. Dick just couldn't see that until now.

The Boy Wonder stepped off the podium and returned to his seat, his head held low. Anyone there that actually knew Bruce, knew that Dick would have wanted to say far more than he did, but unfortunately, Bruce being well-known and famous cause lots of uninvited guest to arrive anyways.

---

The funeral had ended and everyone had left. Alfred and Jason were currently waiting in the car for Dick and Tim. They both had decided to clean up afterwards, and they were about finished cleaning, so Tim took this as his opportunity.

Dick was sitting down as Tim approached him,"Hey."

Tim tried not to make eye contact as he replied,"Dick, do you think there's a chance that Bruce is still alive?"

Dick look surprised by Tim's question. He never expected that, and especially since they were currently at his funeral.

"I want to say yes, but I know the real answer."

"I don't know why, but I have this weird feeling about all of this... I don't think Bruce is dead."

"Tim, there was a body. Trust me, Bruce is dead, and no matter how much we may hate it, he's not coming back to life anytime soon."
"But Jason did."

"Just leave it alone, okay?" Dick replied half yelling. He didn't want to talk about this right now. Especially, if Tim was just being in denial. Sure, every part of Dick still wanted Bruce to be alive so he could tell him how sorry he really was, but Dick knew the truth and nothing could change it. Bruce was dead, and Jason was a different story. A story they didn't even know yet.

"Fine." Tim muttered as he walked to the limo awaiting him. Dick sighed before he stood up and followed. He knew he shouldn't have been too harsh with Tim, but it was that or Tim's little theory could grow and only cause him more pain.

Barbara too ended riding home with the boys, because well, if Jason was alive she didn't want to stay in the dark about how that was even possible.

The car ride home was an awkward one. The car was completely silent. Jason sat in the passenger seat, Barbara sat behind him, Tim sat on the left of Barbara, and Dick sat to the left of Tim, and Alfred drove of course. Jason then decided to break the silence,"You're supposed to be my replacement?" Jason laughed referring to Tim. Tim looked offended, but decided not to reply.

"Just leave the kid alone." Barbara muttered hitting the back of Jason's head.

"Just leave the kid alone." Jason mimicked.

So, that was basically the care ride home, but as long as they found out how Jason was alive, the Bat family could survive it.
