Kimmon's POV
My primary care physician, Dr. Sukharangsan, had explained to me that I had badly banged my knees against the lower area of the dashboard of my car during my accident. My right knee in particular had been the hardest hit.
Although lately I have been able to walk short distances, like from my bed to the bathroom, I still could not bend nor lift my right knee normally, so when I needed to put my pajamas back on while I was in the bathroom, I had to call Newwie for assistance.
He was immediately at my side, like the good and attentive fiance that he was and always had been, if my memory serves me right.
He bent in front of me and I held on to the back of his shoulder as I slightly lifted my leg. He helped me lift my pajamas up one leg and then the other.
When he straightened up, I grabbed his neck and kissed him on his lips.
He kissed me back but when I tried to deepen the kiss, he pulled away.
"Dr. K and his nurse are here," he whispered.
"Oh, okay," I said, taking a quick look at myself in the bathroom mirror to make sure that my hair was in place and that I looked presentable to Dr. K before I stepped out of the bathroom.
But I had stepped into an empty room. My doctor and his nurse were nowhere to be found.
"Newwie!" I called out to my fiance, who for some reason had not followed me out of the bathroom.
"Yes, sweetheart?" he asked, peeking out of the bathroom door.
"I thought you said that my doctor and his nurse were here to see me!" I complained, feeling some kind of disappointment that Dr. K was not in my room as I had expected.
"Well they were here before you had called me into the bathroom," said Newwie, "would you like me to buzz the nurses' station?"
"Let's do that," I said, "I have a few questions to consult with Dr. K."
Newwie pressed the intercom button.
"Nurse Violet here," said a voice, "how may I help you?"
I moved close to the intercom panel by my bedside.
"Is it possible to have Dr. K come to see me right now?" I asked.
"I'm afraid that's not possible," said Nurse Violet, "he's not in the building right now. He is out on his coffee break."
"When do you expect him back?" I asked, feeling more and more disappointed by the second.
"In about fifteen minutes or so," she replied.
That was too long to wait but what could I do. 'Do I have a choice?' I almost said, but instead I said, "Would you please let him know that I need to see him as soon as he comes in? I really have some very important issues to consult with him."
"Very well, sir," said Nurse Violet.
"Thank you, nurse," I said, before nodding to Newwie to release the intercom button.
I wondered where Dr. K was having his coffee break and if he was with anyone.
I shook my head. Why was I even bothering to think about those stuff. Dr. K had the right to choose where to spend his coffee break and with whom, silly me.
I wondered once again, as I had done before, if Dr. K was single or if he was in a committed relationship.
"Sweetheart," I got startled at Newwie's voice. I had forgotten that he was in the room with me.
"Penny for your thoughts," he said.
I shouldn't be feeling guilty. I was not being unfaithful to Newwie. Was it so wrong to wonder if my doctor was single or not?
