(When you fix up two shipping wars by making a single ship)

     Kai sat at the kitchen counter. Adora rambled on more about things. First about how she was glad Kai could come over today, then about which language she planned to learn next since she found human languages fascinating (she's learning German next), and then to how Adam's out traveling and Albert had to run to the store once to, and she quote 'figure out how much soda it takes to kill a horse' when she spent a week back at the house. But now she was back in the dorm for college.

They couldn't help but smile at her. She had so much to say all at once. "Calm down." Kai said. "Alright alright... but seriously though, thanks for being here and keeping me company." Adora replied and hugged them.

Out of all of Adora's friends, Kai noticed that Adora was more clingy towards them. Of course, this could all be platonic and Kai is making it a bigger deal than needed, but Kai liked to tease themselves with the false fantasy of them more than friends.

So they just sat on her couch as they listened to her go on a rant about things. "-and really, that's just some things going on with my life. But uh.. anything with you?" Adora asked. "Oh. I mean, life's alright. Decent grades. I also like this one girl-" Kai began. Adora's head tilted right up to face them when they said that.

"Ooh! Who?" She seemed overly excited. "Oh uh..." Kai just murmured awkwardly. They only wanted to hint, not actually say anything. "...Is it someone on campus?" Adora asked. "I guess you could say that." Kai said blankly.

"Tell meee!" Adora begged. "Noooo." Kai responded. "Fine. I'll figure it out myself." Adora said. 'Good luck with that,' Kai thought. "..hmmm- oh-"Adora pondered. "Is it-" Before she could finish, she heard a car pull up to the house. "Oh. Jane's back." Kai said, relieved.

Jane walked inside. "Hey!" She smiled. "Hi." Kai greeted her awkwardly. The two weren't exactly on good terms last time they talked, so they were grateful that Jane seemed in a good mood. Adora ran up and hugged Jane. "Hiiiii!" Adora said. "How're you guys?" Jane asked. "Good. Kai was just hanging out with me while I was waiting for you to get back!" She answered. The reply felt like a punch in the gut.

Hanging out with her while she waited for Jane to get back. Of course. Why did Kai ever think Adora would actually-

Jane murmurs something with an amused smile. Adora just glared at her. "Sh-shut up!" She stammered. "Okay okay I'm sorryyyy." Jane said, laughing. Kai seemed confused.

The three of them just watched a bit of tv, talked, and then Kai eventually left. They waved at Adora and Jane, who were on the porch. Jane held Adora closer. Kai frowned and drove home, their mind racing with thoughts about what had happened today.

They will forever be just friends, won't they?

Kai rolled into their driveway then got a notification from someone. Adora. They tried to conceal the little flutter their heart got from seeing it. It read: 'hey! You home alright? Stay safe! <3'

They smiled and typed: 'Yeah.. it's all good. I'm home now.' They were smiling like an idiot when walking into the dorm, then collapsing onto their bed.
