Every since I came out as trans, Mason, my childhood best friend, has been nothing but supportive. It was honestly sweet and surprising how quick he got used to my new name. We decided to hang out more at the park where we used to go to as kids. "Wow... this place is still standing." Mason said. "Yeah.." I reply. "Race you to the swing sets!" I challenge. "You're on!" He says. Somehow, he beats me to the swings. "It's been years since I've been on this swing." Mason said. "Well.. after a bit, people get older and forget about things like this." I say. Suddenly I remember something. "I wonder if Shady is still here?" As I say this, Mason's face lights up. "The tree? I hope so." We dash towards the wooded area and find a tree with green and blue ribbons. "Remember when we'd put a ribbon on there whenever we visited Shady?" Mason asked. "Yeah, I got so used to it that I carried some ribbon in my pocket for good luck and still do. Wanna put some ribbon on the tree?" I say and hand him a deep blue ribbon. "Sure." He says. "What should we write on it?" I take out a gel pen. "I don't know? Maybe something that you need to get off of your chest?" I suggest and Mason looks like he figured out something to write. He takes the gel pen and smiles. I look at what he wrote. "I-" I say. That's all I manage to say. "You okay?" Mason asked. "Yeah it's just... do you really mean it?" I look him in the eyes. "Absolutely. I always did and still do." He says. "I like you too." I say.
