"... We got our scars, we're beautiful and broken, just the way we are..."

Her screams woke them both. She'd shot up from the bed with a strangled cry.
"What's wrong?" Muhammad asked turning on the bedside lamp and a dim yellow light illuminated the room.
Amirah stared confusingly as if wondering what she was doing there.
"Amirah..." He called reaching out to touch her hand and she pulled away so fast he was startled.
"You're scaring me, what's wrong?"
She shook her head still in a daze, "nightmares."
"Oh, do you want to talk about it?"
"You can't handle it." She whispered under her breath.
"Go back to sleep Muhammad, I'll be in my room."
"Are you sure? If you want to sleep in your room, I'll join you." His expression was that of worry but she tried not to look at him as she stood up from the bed.
"No I'll be fine, I want to be alone." And she left to her bedroom where she sat up on the bed just staring until a knock on the door jolted her from her state.
Muhammad came in and stood by the door, "it's time for fajr. Amirah whatever it is, I think praying will help. I'll set the mats in the sitting room."
She stood up and performed ritual bath for cleansing before picking up her hijab and going to the sitting room.
Two mats were splayed, one behind the other. Amirah stood on the one behind and Muhammad led the prayer, first time they were praying together since they got married.
After they were done, he picked up the Qur'an and started reciting in the most humble of voices, his voice was husky, not even close to perfection but there was something about the way he read it and pronounced the words, it was as if he knew the meaning of what he read and he was feeling the emotions... Amirah broke down quietly.
She put her forehead on the floor and wept, there in front of her Lord, she begged for His forgiveness, for neglecting to pray her daily prayers for almost a year, for not turning to her Lord in her darkest times and for cheating on her husband. Muhammad's recitation soothed her so much, Amirah found herself standing up to perform nawaffil.
When daylight came, Amirah opened her eyes to Muhammad kissing her gently on her forehead.
"Morning." He said smiling at her, he looked so handsome and happy. She remembered last night and her face reddened a little.
He'd asked her if he'd done well, apparently that was the first time he was having sex. She'd laughed and just hugged him tighter with a contented sigh.
He wasn't even comparable to AbdulRahman, the man was a pro and he'd made her feel things like never before. Sex with Muhammad right after was disappointing but she knew it could only get better from therof.
"Why are you smiling?" Muhammad asked.
"Nothing, just last night..." He covered her mouth with his large palm but she still shook from laughter.
"You're being so shy, like a girl." She teased.
"I don't think you deserve the breakfast in bed treatment anymore. Meet me in the dining area." He stood up and picked a tray from her bedside table that she hadn't noticed. A mug, toast and egg were on the tray and her stomach grumbled greedily.
"Hey, I was joking fah." She complained sitting up.
"I didn't really hear you but maybe you'll repeat what you said when we meet at the dining table." He said before going out. She rolled her eyes before standing up and following him out.
She sat down opposite him eyeing him as he munched on egg nonchalantly.
"Where's mine?"
He looked up as if surprised to see her, "you said?"
"Where's my food?"
"I didn't hear you." He leaned forward and she kicked his shin.
"Good Lord!" He cried out before pushing the tray he'd been eating from to her front. He stood up and went to get another plate of egg and toast, a mug in hand.
"Hey..." Amirah protested, "why'd I have to eat your remnants?"
"That's life love." He sipped from his cup dramatically, "it's never fair."
She sipped from her cup and recoiled.
"Too much sugar." She complained and he gave her a confused expression in return,
"But I didn't add any sugar."
"That's the point." She said laughing as she opened the sugar jar and fetched three spoons of sugar, pouring into her tea.
"That's just too much."
"Eh it hasn't killed me all these years, it won't now."
"Nigerians." He sighed.
"Yen yen yen." She said before sipping her tea.
"Thank you Amirah." He said after few minutes of comfortable silence.
"Why are you thanking me?"
"For your change, I'm so happy we're in this new phase and I'm sure In Sha Allah it can only get better right?"
She smiled, "right."
"Well I've to get to work now." He stood up.
"I'm jealous of you." Amirah groaned.
He looked at her mischievously, "I see."
"You see what?"
Laughing, he went into his room.
Few hours after Muhammad had left for work, Amirah laid on the couch watching TV and fiddling with her phone when the doorbell rang.
She considered not going to open the gate but curiosity got her up.
Wearing a veil over her head, she dragged her legs to the gate and opened it, she almost shut it immediately after seeing who it was.
AbdulRahman looked at her seriously, "why have you been ignoring my calls Amirah?"
Her heart was beating faster, "what are you doing here? How'd you even know where I live?"
"I've missed you." He moved closer to her and she stepped back.
He ran his hand through his hair in an exasperated manner, "are you going to let me in?"
"No, what are you doing here? You really shouldn't be here please."
"Was that what it was to you? A one night stand?"
"I'm married and it was a mistake AbdulRahman. I was in a bad place and you were around and I..."
He pulled her by the waist towards him and kissed her.
