CHAPTER 18: RIVALRY

Muhammad was livid but he was still trying his best to look calm, the party was going on in full swing unaware of the turmoil going on in his head.
"Please stay away from my wife." He said glaring at Ummul Khair, she gave him a confused look in reply.
"I'm escaping from this." Muhammad turned his glare to Abubakar who had already walked away from them. The idiot had been hovering over him and,Amirah all night but when he was actually needed, he just escaped.
"I didn't say anything to her, you were the one who'd started acting weird and said the party was large." She bursted into laughter and Muhammad mentally groaned. He felt foolish right after his large comment which had been accompanied by nerve-wrecking unnecessarily stuttering.
He had no idea why she'd affected him so much moreso as there was absolutely nothing between them except her childish flirt games.
"Just stay away from me okay? Enough of your games and taunts, they are really childish and you're a grown woman so stop being silly." He snapped and then recoiled.
"Look I'm sorry, that was uncalled for and..."
She smiled brightly at him, "don't worry, I'm not offended at all. It'll take more than a few rude but honest words to get me off your back babe, it's gonna take decades and still, I don't think you'll be successful. In the meantime, enjoy your party and extend my regards to your wife, it was nice meeting her, at least now I know I'm prettier." With a wink, she sauntered off and it was all Muhammad could do so as not to groan.
He looked around and wondered if he should go and search for Amirah. He shook his head, he should let her be. This past few days have been hellish for him, staying away from her considering how much he cared for her.
Numerous times he'd wanted to knock on her door and when she'd open, he'll engulf her in a tight hug, inhale her scent before begging her to give him a chance, promising her to do this on her own terms.
He'd kneel before her if that was what it took, he'll grovel at her feet pleading with her but numerous times, he'd managed to stop himself. He'd promised her time and that he'll give her, whatever the outcome of her thinking was, he'll take it in good faith. Maybe she wasn't destined for him and he really needed to stop forcing it, he'll just sit back and watch everything unfold, he was exhausted enough as it is and it's only been two months of this exerting routine.

"You aren't stalking me I hope?" Amirah asked him.
His lips twitched, "you wish."
She shook her head then began walking away from him to where some leisure chairs were arranged under dimmer lights. He followed behind her.
"You still haven't told me your name." He said sliding on the seat next to her.
"I know." She said as she let her eyes wander around their environment, it was bustling with people going in and out.
"So can I ask what a respectable married woman is doing in a hotel alone?" His voice was teasing, she shook her head at him.
"I'm with my husband, we're attending an event." She finally turned to look at him, was it possible for him to look even more handsome? He looked so, he was dressed casually in a brown plain T-shirt and jeans.
"And he left you alone? If I was with such a beautiful woman, I wouldn't leave her alone for a second lest some opportunist will come talk to her."
She smiled. "An opportunist like yourself I presume?"
His deep laughter caused her skin to tingle and her smile broadened.
"Yes, like me."
"And you? What're you doing here?" She asked, her eyes straying towards the entrance of the event hall.
"I'm lodged here." She turned to look at him, he was stretching his muscled arms behind his head before crossing his legs in a comfortable manner.
"Checking me out now, are we?" Her focus snapped back to the entrance ashamed of being caught ogling, at the entrance Ummul Khair just stepped out, a man was by her side, he said something and they both laughed. Amirah glared at her, such a slut! Moving from one man to the other.
"A rival?" AbdulRahman's voice snapped her eyes away from the scene, momentarily petrified that she'd just thought something that horrendous about someone she barely knew all because she thought she and Muhammad might have something going on.
"Not in this life!" She all but growled and AbdulRahman bursted into that deep laughter of his, the one that made her head swirl.
"I guess that's a yes. Is she the reason your husband left you alone? Is that your husband?"
"It'll do you well to mind your business." She snapped at him.
He raised his hand in mock surrender, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Fine, fine. But for what it's worth, you're much more beautiful."
"I know." Even at that, Amirah found herself smiling, she needed the confidence boost even it was from this complete but startingly handsome stranger.
An hour later and Amirah had laughed so much her stomach hurts, drank too much orange juice she was pressed and she didn't want the night to end but it did when her phone rang displaying Muhammad as the caller.
"I guess that's your husband." He said with a small smile.
"It is." She answered the call and told him she'll meet him by the car.
"And this is where I say goodnight huh? Can't keep you from your husband." He still had a smile on his face. Amirah shrugged.
"You couldn't even if you wanted to." She said
eyeing him. How could someone be so beautiful, his long lashes casting a shadow under his eyes.
"Well I'll see you around then." He said turning his attention to his phone, she nodded before slowly walking away. Her feet trudged on forward.
She was few steps away when she paused, she was confused. Amirah glanced back and seeing him looking at her with keen interest was all the convincing she needed before heading back towards him.
"I'll love for us to meet again. Just friends?" One of his perfectly arched brow rose at her statement before his lips upturned into a smirk.
"Indeed, just friends." They exchanged phone numbers.
"I'll call you." He promised. Amirah smiled although turmoiled, what was she getting into with this undeniably attractive stranger?
As Amirah caught sight of Muhammad leaning on the car waiting for her, she wished it was AbdulRahman and at that point she knew she was in trouble.
A/N:
Extremely short and stupidly late. I am so sorry, I had a severe case of writer's block with this chapter that I had to promise myself I'll write it last night (because I never break a promise I make to myself).
Also I just resumed school so I was super busy and was highly distracted and for the fact that my phone's screen is acting up, I'm totally sorry for the late, short and unedited update.
See you when next I update which I'll try to make Tuesday In Sha Allah.
Bye.
