THIRTY FOUR: Are You In?

Well...bleep me sideways...I'm screwed...

I sat upon the edge of Amajiki's bathtub with a hand covering my mouth, staring at the opened text I had just received from Shigaraki.

'You're going to work with that Yakuza bastard. Make up some bullshit and come to me at midnight tonight. Don't be late, girl'

"Uh...are you alright in there..?" Upon hearing Amajiki shyly knocking on the door, I squeaked out and slid back into the empty tub; 'oof'ing just a little louder than I had intended. "(Y..Y/N)..?!"
"I'M HUNKY DORY, TAMAKI!" I called out in a fluster, trying to scramble out of the large basin. Cursing my less than graceful self, I quietly groaned as I turned to view myself in the mirror above the sink.

My (H/C) hair was a right mess; sticking out in every which direction, and dark, puffy bags sat beneath my sunken, (E/C) eyes. I didn't want to follow Shigaraki's orders, but I was a woman of my word. There wasn't anything I could do about it. Adjusting my mess of a self, I yanked on my uniform blazer and exited the bathroom, almost knocking the shy little ravonette flying.

"O..oh, sorry!" I squeaked out as he straightened himself out and looked at my scruffy appearance.
"I'm fine...but...are you? Y..you look so tired..." Hesitantly, he reached out and placed the back of his hand against my forehead. "I..if you're sick, you shouldn't come to school..."

I don't deserve a friend like him...

"J..just some nerves from yesterday! I'm in tip top shape, I swear!" I laughed it off as I gave him a smile, trying to make sure I was convincing. "Besides, didn't Fat want us to meet him uptown after first period? Can't neglect my duties, now can I?!" I took his hand from my head and squeezed it reassuringly, but he didn't look at all convinced.

His fingers twined with mine, which I found to be an incredibly bold move for the timid little darling, and his mouth formed a thin line.
"Just...let me know if you're not feeling well...please..." He murmured, making my heart squeeze tight. I truly just wanted to spill my secrets then and there, but I just couldn't. Amajiki wanted to be a hero, and he was already a darn good one. If he were to know my position; that I was affiliated with The League of Villains, he'd surely hate me.

"Promise!" Perking up; painfully, I began to drag him out of his house to walk to school. My stomach was twisting and turning at the thought of anybody finding out, but especially those who I was closest to. Amajiki, Kirishima, Fatgum...My parents...If I had to leave them behind, it would kill me.

I just...need to keep pretending that everything is the same as before...then...it'll all be fine..!

----------------------------------------

"You haven't been working as much lately, Chickadee! Of course you wouldn't have known!"

All I could do was gawk at Fatgum, who was struggling not to laugh at the horrendously dumb look of surprise that was stuck to my face. He was right - I hadn't been doing as many shifts with him as I had used to, per both his and Amajiki's requests, but I still felt way too out of the loop considering nobody had bothered to tell me.

"Sorry, (Y/N)! I know I said that I applied, and that I was probably going to start with Fat, but I wanted to surprise you!" Kirishima grinned and tilted his head to the side, and I couldn't help but smile back at him with genuine happiness.

"This is awesome, Eijiro! I have my two besties working with me now!" I cheered, diving to grab both him and the flustering ravonette into headlocks. Both made strange little squeaks in surprise, and Fatgum covered with mouth with his hand.
"Um...you may wanna check the lads' positions there, kidlett..." He snickered, and it took me a few extra seconds to register that they were both pressed rather firmly into my chest.

Oh...OH...OHHHH

"Yikes! Sorry sorry sorry!" I immediately released them, and neither boy would look me square in the eye. Both had a cherry tint to their cheeks, and I was honestly proud of Amajiki for not crumpling into a heap on the ground with how hard he was shaking.

"S'f..fine..." Kirishima chuckled nervously; awkward smile showing his jagged teeth.
"F..Fat...Wh..where are we g..going today..?" Amajiki had pulled the cape of his hood in front of his mouth as he turned to our boss, hoping to change the subject from my accidental bosom attack.

The rounded hero clapped his hands together and motioned to the building behind us; grin spreading wider and taking up the majority of his face.
"This 'ere, kiddos, is where we get your first ever secret mission! Ain't that excit'n?!" He announced, and my jaw almost disconnected with how low it dropped.

This can't be right...A mission as a hero...and a mission as a villain...on the same day..?! Why is luck avoiding me?!

I yipped out; quirk activating in a puffy fuzz of feline fur, as Kirishima took my hand and began to pull me towards the doors after Fatgum.
"This is freaking awesome! Our first mission together!" He cheered, and I had to force myself to follow suit and act excited.
"T..totally! About time!"

I'm screwed...

Up and up, we finally found ourselves in a meeting room, surrounded by other pro heroes and the likes. Some of the other interns were there, including some of Kirishima's classmates as well as both Mirio and Neijire. Returning their waves of greeting, I sat myself directly beside my mentor and waited.
"Now that everyone is here..." I immediately recognised the startlingly lanky man who stood up and began to address us. "...I would like to bring this meeting to order."

All Might's old sidekick...

Sir Nighteye gave us all a few moments to settle down before he resumed.
"We have all heard about the new drug that has been making it's way around the villain community as of late...A drug that temporarily erases quirks. Upon further research into the matter, I have come to the conclusion that this is being orchestrated by none other than the Shie Hassaikai group."

"Yakuza? You really think that the damn Yakuza is up to this?" Another pro, who I identified as Rock Lock, narrowed his eyes sceptically. "They haven't been on the grid for years. What makes you so sure?" Sir Nighteye adjusted his glasses and glanced to his comrade with sharp eyes.
"I would appreciate your trust. You know I wouldn't throw accusations around unless I was positive. Details will be shared, but the reason I have summoned you all here is because something needs to be done. A raid."

Oh diddly dinkin' dear..!

Every muscle in my body seemed to seize when he said that word. Bad feelings were seeping in, left, right and centre, but I managed to maintain a neutral expression.
"A raid, huh? Well, if you're certain, then me and my girls are with you, one hundred and ten percent." Ryukyu; the dragoon hero, piped up, motioning to Neijire and her two first year interns.

"I'm not totally convinced. Besides, ain't it a little too risky having all these kids involved?" Rock Lock glared around the table at all of us, and I found myself scooting just a little bit closer to Fatgum.
"Aye, watch y'self! These kids may be young, but they're god tier, if I do say so m'self!" I was glad that he chose to ruffle the boys' hair instead of mine, and I smiled a little, despite the nagging screech inside my head.

I have to choose...

"I..I know we might be young...a..and inexperienced compared to all of you a..amazing pros..." We all turned our attention to Midoriya; the well known, bone-shattering first year, who had stood from his seat beside Mirio. "...b..but there's a little girl trapped there who needs our help! W..we can't just leave her there..!"

A little girl?

"Yeah, we need to be her heroes!" Mirio also stood up; making the greenette look rather small in comparison, and clenched his fist. "I, for one, won't let her down!" It seemed like the entire room switched their intense gazes to Rock Lock, who was now sinking lower into his seat, knowing full well that there was no point in trying to refute.
"Yeah...I'm in, then..." He sighed sourly.

I kind of zoned out for the rest of the meeting. Details about the Shie Hassaikai, and exactly how Sir Nighteye knew something was up. His quirk was great for sleuthing, I had to admit. My mind wandered to Dabi, and it made my chest feel constricted.

I wonder if he'll be at the base tonight..? Does he even want to see me? Probably not...I bet he hates me, for sure...I don't want him to hate me...

"Uh...you okay there, (Y/N)?" Shaking my head to rid myself of patchwork images, I blinked up at Kirishima, realising that I was the only one still seated.
"Oh...my bad! Head in the clouds..." I giggled vacantly before standing up. I followed close behind the others until Fatgum stopped us in the lobby of the building, turning and looking down at us with a serious, yet still adorable expression.

"'Aight, then! You three are in, I hope?" That was so like him. Even though we were supposed to follow his lead, he always made sure we were willing to. That was one of the many reasons I respected him so much.
"You bet! I mean...I guess I have to check with Mr. Aizawa first...but if it's a thumbs up from him, I'm ready!" Kirishima gave a dazzling grin to his new mentor before, right on cue, Eraserhead called him away.

"You know I'm in..." Amajiki murmured before turning to me with that same, deeply concerned expression that was far too common as of late. "...but I don't think (Y/N) should go..." If I was honest with myself, hearing him say that stung.
"No? Why do you think that, 'Eater?" Fatgum looked between us curiously, though I could tell he knew exactly what the young hero was about to say.

"It's just...You've been through so much lately, (Y/N)...a..and I just...I don't want you to get hurt...I..I know it's part of the job...but..but I just...If you got hurt again I'd..." It pained me to see him struggling not to offend me in any way. His hands wrung his cape tightly in front of his chest, and his the skin of his lip looked ready to tear under pressure. "...I'd lose my mind..."

Tamaki...

"Well, ain't you a gentlemanly gentleman!" An extra hard pat on the back was sent Amajiki's way, winding the poor boy, before Fatgum placed his other hand on my head. "It's up to you, lil nugget. You wanna do this?" My conscience was tearing itself apart. On one hand, I wanted to remain in the light, and do what I could to save that poor little girl and be a hero. On the other hand...

The heroes and the league both have the same goal in mind...Take down Overhaul...

"I...think I'll sit this one out..." I said softly, surprising the both of them. "I mean...I want to go...I really do...but...Tamaki is right...I need to de-stress before I get back out on the field..." Disappointing Fatgum was weighing on my mind, along with all the other chaos, but at least that was washed away with his big, cheesy grin.

"I'm glad you're actually thinking of yourself f'once! We worry about ya, kiddo, n I'm sure once you've rested you'll be right back to y'old, troublesome self!" I welcomed the squishy embrace my mentor gave me, but I hid my frown in his chest.

Troublesome...yeah, that's me alright...

"Can...I walk you home, (Y/N)..?" Amajiki piped up once I had parted from the big, egg-shaped hero. Nodding, I mustered up once last smile and buried every ounce of guilt and worry deep inside my guts; saving it for later.

"Always! I probably won't be seeing you till after the big raid, so I wanna spend time with you while I can..!"

Little did I know...

***I know the whole meeting scene is nothing like this - I just couldn't be bothered going back and reading it again...plus, why write word for word from the manga when I can just wing it?***
