SIXTY ONE: Useless

I was flying.

Well, not exactly flying, but we definitely weren't falling any longer. More like slowly, wonkily drifting down towards the ground. The pain I was experiencing was almost unbearable, but I had to focus on holding on to Twice's hand. In turn, he was clinging to his fellow clone and Giran.

"It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's..." One of the Twice clones gasped dramatically in a strained shout. "...a fuckin' bird!" Now, I knew I had definitely manifested some kind of extension to my body, but I was in no position to check it out for myself. All I wanted to do was get the guys to safety before I passed out from the pain.

It proved a near impossible task as rubble began to fall all around us. If I had in fact grown wings, I wasn't used to them, so I had no idea how to dodge. The moment one was clipped by crumbling brick, we were falling again, but thankfully we were much closer to the ground. I had barely made contact with the earth when I started to writhe around, screaming and crying out as my body blazed.

"Oh shit! Gotta put her down!"

"No, idiot! She's in pain!"

"OwO, does she have wings?!"

"They're red!"

"Excuse you! They're imperial ruby, you uncultured swine!"

"Gah...just...shut up and help her, Twice...s!"

My bones felt like they had been twisted and snapped out of place all throughout my body, but mostly around my shoulder blades and upper back. My vision was speckled white, and I wanted to throw up everything I possibly could.
"Come on, come on! I gotcha!" Twice's hands on me hurt, but I didn't fight back. He held me by my upper arms and tried to keep me still.

"It hurts..! J..Jin, it hurts..! Get them off..!" I sobbed hysterically, hot tears streaming down my face. A bullet to the head seemed like a better option than dealing with it.
"It's okay! You're gonna be okay! Try to deactivate your quirk, alright? Try to focus!" He pulled me into a hug, mindful of my pain, and carefully rocked me back and forth.

Get it off get it off get it off get it off..!

After what seemed like hours, the pain eased. It didn't go away completely, but I no longer felt heavy, stinging appendages. Slumping into Twice's arms, I couldn't bring myself to move anymore. I was disoriented, and had no idea what had just happened. They weren't bat wings, that was for sure, and I knew my quirk was restricted to mammals. At least, it used to be?

"That'a girl! You're amazing! Come on, let's get you out of here! Boss is probably gonna get a little crazy!" With that, I was picked up and placed on yet another twice, which only multiplied my confusion. There sure were a lot of him, but it wasn't the time for questions.
"W..wait...Tomura...He can't deal with that...freak...alone..." I rasped, trying to squirm off of his back.

His grip on me became tighter, and he wildly shook his head as he began to run in the opposite direction of the noise.
"Sure he can! Have faith in him, (N/N)! He's the boss for a reason! All you need to do is stay safe right now!"

But...I need to do something...

There was no way I could argue, so I let him carry me away from the battlefield. Things seemed to have calmed down a lot, but there was no missing the carnage that had been left behind. Squeezing my eyes shut, I tried to tell myself that none of it belonged to the League, but my positivity was dwindling.
"I..is...Dabi okay..?" I managed to ask in a pitiful murmur, leaning my head against the back of Twice's.

"Sorry, don't know! We can ask any other me we come across, though!" The masked clone replied, short of breath as he sprinted along. "Hey, me! Know if Dabi is okay?!" I didn't even bother listening to the response. I was drifting in and out of consciousness at this point, and even breathing was causing me pain.

I can't go to sleep yet...

"J..Jin..." My arm slipped down to dangle at my side, completely numb and lifeless. "...I'm really tired...I can't keep my eyes open...Everything hurts..." My lungs felt like they were deflating, and if I had the option to tear my own back off, I would have.
"Nuh-uh, you're staying awake, missy! How about we sing a song?! Wake me up, before you go-go! Don't leave me hangin' on like a~"

His voice was fading in and out, and I just couldn't focus. Even when I began to smell smoke, I could barely lift an eyelid. Screams, crashes and crackles were all jumbled up when they reached my ears, and I had an almost overwhelming urge to vomit once we slowed to a halt, yet another Twice taking me off the one carrying me.
"(N/N), I've got you! Can you hear me? What's my name?!"

Now, throwing up all over the clone wasn't what I wanted to do, but it happened, and it just made my body feel a thousand times worse.
"My name isn't bhlergchglerblerg!" Twice shrieked, laying me down on my side and clearing my hair from my face with gentle fingers. "Just stay awake! Uh, tell me, what do you wanna do when this is over! Yeah! What's next on the list?!"

Still heaving, I tried to think of an answer. In that moment, the only thing I wanted to do was help the others, but I was quite clearly down for the count.
"I..I wanna know...what you wanna do..." I choked out, grasping at his hand as it slipped into mine. Twice seemed a little taken aback by my reversal of his question, but gladly humoured me, staying crouched by my side.

"Well, I just want all of us to be happy and healthy! You're my family, and you deserve it more than anyone! When all this is over, I'm gonna marry Himiko, and buy one of those cool, old-timey tobacco pipes! Oh, and I'll stop being insane!" As he rattled on about his dreams, I felt an odd chill sweep over me, and everything went blank for what seemed like hours before I felt myself being shaken. "H..hey! It's rude to doze off like that when someone's talking! Stay alive, (N/N)!"

Just let me rest...I'm so tired...

".....How is....Giran.....stable. She's lost.....blood.....attention...!" A new voice joined the white noise, and I tried to force my eyes open, but they just wouldn't focus. I felt like that old Dizknee bad guy, only seeing spots.
"Do I......transfusion.....Toga....." It was like a bad radio signal, but despite being completely delirious, I didn't fight against whoever was moving me about, not even when I felt a sharp jab in the crook of my elbow.

Touya...wherever you are, I hope you've won...

I quickly lost consciousness, but not completely. I could still hear things, and sense things, but my physical vessel had shut down. Pain coursed through my body, but there was nothing I could do to stop it. Some help I turned out to be.
"Out of the fucking way..!" That voice. That was the voice I had been longing to hear. "What the hell happened to her?!"

The stench of burning flesh assaulted whatever senses I had left as I was lifted up from the ground, and the heat against my skin was far from pleasant. I knew it was Dabi without seeing him, but I silently pleaded for him to put me down, as the staples holding his skin together were branding me.
"It's over! Boss needs to be patched up, ba-"

We won...Good...Now I can just...

***DABI POV***

"Hey, come on, stay awake..!" Tapping the side of (Y/N)'s face wasn't doing any good, and I knew she needed to be treated as soon as possible. A lot of us did, but some more than others. Still cradling her in my arms, I spun to face the Twice that was tending to Giran. "What happened to her?!"

Giran coughed and spluttered as he cleared his throat, his damaged hand held tightly against his chest as Twice held him upright.
"The kid grew a pair..." He explained weakly, wincing a little through his words. "A pair of wings, that is...Stopped us falling to our deaths when the tower went down..."

Wings..?

"Like a bird! They were big and red and went fwoosh!" One of the clones added, but I was already beyond confused. Had her quirk allowed her to unlock more than mammals? Whatever it had done, it had seriously messed her up. Gaping, bleeding wounds had torn her shoulder blades apart, and she was deathly pale.

"Get the others and find someone with medical experience, if anyone else survived. Bring them here as soon as fucking possible!" I barked my orders to Compress and a few straggling Twices, who didn't argue. I was sure my face said it all.

No matter how exhausted I was, I wasn't going to rest until I knew (Y/N) was in the clear. If I had just gotten there first, and not gotten sidetracked with that ice-hurling prick, maybe it wouldn't have happened. She wouldn't be hurt, or worse. Then again, I hadn't been much use. My quirk was growing weaker as the others grew stronger, so maybe it was for the best that I hadn't reached her.

"Come on, Tenderfoot...I've got you..." Carefully, I sat myself down on the ground, sitting her between my legs. I was mindful of her open injuries, not pressing them against my filthy shirt, but still shielding them from the dust and debris that still swirled around the ruined city.

"From the moment you wake up...things are going to change...So you gotta wake up..."

***This is the worst chapter to date I'm so sorry ahhhhhhhh

My brain just wouldn't let me do anything with it. It's so difficult to write so many Jins.

The manga has me feeling some kinda way and that way isn't good at all.
