FOURTEEN: Care to Admit

*(Y/N) POV*

When I woke up, Dabi still hadn't returned. I shook off the emotional blow and removed the dirtied hoodie; shoving it into one of the discarded plastic bags from my shopping trip and decided to wander down towards the bar.

I guess I messed up...oh well...

"Good morning, Kurogiri!~" I sang as I strolled into the dim room; a forced bounce in my step.
"Ah, good morning to you, too, Miss (L/N). Early to rise, I see." The misty man greeted me; slightly turning his head from where he was tinkering with the percolator.
"Well, I do have school..." I sighed before realising we weren't alone in the room. There was Dabi; slumped over against the wall with a concerning number of empty bottles around him.

Oh...That's where he was...

Kurogiri approached me; the back of his spectral hand coming to rest against my forehead.
"I must insist you take a day to rest, Miss (L/N). You seem rather pale after Miss Toga's pathologist play..." He said; his hand moving to my shoulder to lead me to one of the many vacant stools. "I shall write a note explaining your absence. Please, take a seat and I shall fix something to nourish you." I complied; still completely baffled by how a villain could be so kind. How could any of them be so kind?
"Thanks, Kurogiri...but...how did you know about Toga..?" I questioned; my feet swinging and inch or so off the ground. The villain sighed as he faced away from me; hands busy in preparation.
"Mr. Dabi seemed to have a lot to say when he came to embalm himself with liquor..." He explained; motioning his head to the passed out ravonette.
"Ah..." I deflated a little; realising that he likely spilled about our intimate encounter.
"Do not be discouraged, Miss (L/N). He is a troubled young man, and I believe he just doesn't know how to cope with his incertitude." The wise man went on; his topaz eyes soft as he placed a steaming mug of coffee in front of me, paired with a rather delicate looking sand which; complete with olive and toothpick.
"Thank you, Kurogiri..." I smiled; pulling it closer so I wouldn't blemish his countertop with crumbs. "D..did he say anything about me..?"

Of course he did...probably about how dumb I am...

"Indeed. He said you are the most confusing person to walk the earth." Kurogiri responded; his own coffee hovering by his face.

D..does he even have a mouth..?

"He may not show it...but that boy treasures your companionship more than he cares to admit ...He did a lot of that during his drunken ramblings..." He continued; sipping daintily.
"Bwait....wh?" I froze; mouth full and cheeks puffed, and stared in confusion.
"Please refrain speaking with your mouth full, Miss (L/N). Mr. Dabi is just perturbed by the thought of you becoming embroiled with our cause. As bestial as he is, he holds your innocence as something...rather salient." I had no idea what half of his words meant, but I got the gist of it.
"Shwo..." I swallowed; making Kurogiri irk a little. "...you're saying he likes me...but he doesn't want me to be in danger..?" The man nodded; the wisps of the top of his head drifting off towards the ceiling.
"That is what I made of the one sided conversation. A drunken man tends to speak truths." He placed his mug onto a conveniently placed coaster and turned towards the comatose villain. "I should probably warp him to his quarters..."
"W..wait!" I stopped him; jumping down from the stool. "Uh...can you give me a minute with him?"
"Certainly. I shall divert my attention to the making of Shigaraki Tomura's coffee." I made my way over to Dabi; kneeling down beside him and gently pushing his head up. His breaths were long and slow, and he looked completely wrecked.
"And you call me a stupid girl..." I sighed; using the back of my hand to wipe the drool leaking from his parted mouth. His staples were cold against my skin, but in a good way. Everything about him was good in my eyes.

I'll be safe no matter what...don't you worry about me...

Gingerly, I leant forward and pressed a whisper of a kiss against his lips. They were warm and a little damp, but the electricity that jolted down my spine was all too real. I knew it was foul play; kissing somebody when they were dead to the world, but I couldn't help myself.
"I...uh...You can warp him, now..." I announced; standing up and brushing myself off. I stepped back as a vortex appeared beneath the ravonette and sucked him in.

*THUD!*

"Oh. My mistake. I must have miscalculated the position of his bed..."

*That Evening*

"I'm so so sooooooo sorry I wasn't there, Kiri!" I almost sobbed through the receiver; flailing about on my duvet. "I wanted to cheer you on for your exam!"
"(Y..Y/N), it's okay! I'm kinda glad you didn't see it! Cementos kicked our butts!" Kirishima tried to calm me down from the other end; his service kind of crackly.
"Your manly butt." I giggled; wiping away the honest tears that had began to spring from my (E/C) eyes only moments before. Kurogiri had warped me home around lunchtime, as Dabi hadn't woken up. I'd spent the remainder of the day binge watching some show about a stretchy pirate until I had finally remembered the promise I had unintentionally broken.

"B..believe me...it was anything but manly today..." He chuckled nervously before I heard him grunt a little. Seconds later, I heard a tap against my window.

Dabi..?

Rolling over, I sat up on my knees to peer out of the window, only to see Kirishima standing in the yard below. Confused and a little excited, I slid it open and leaned out.
"Well, howdy, stranger!" I laughed; waving down at him. He waved back; phone still against his ear.
"I went out for a run and thought I'd stop by! H..hope you don't mind..." He admitted; rubbing the back of his neck. Turning, I cupped my hands around my mouth.
"MUM, DAD, I'M GOING DOWNSTAIRS TO PLAY WITH KIRI-KIRI!" With that, I used my quirk to morph into a squirrel; jumping into the tree beside my room and scurrying down. I landed on top of his head and sat there for a few minutes; hanging upside down and snuffling at his white bandana.
"H..hey! Th..that tickles!" He giggled; lifting me off and holding me in gentle hands. Morphing back into my true form, I ended up being carried bridal style in his arms.
"Did'ya miss me that much?" I gave him a closed eye smile; missing the roses that seemed to bloom across his entire face. He placed me down rather quickly; straightening out his tank top and trying to compose himself.
"W..well...as I said...I was already in the area..!" He grinned; a little timidly. "B..besides, I wanted to check on my favourite girl!" I was touched. Kirishima was such a good friend, coming to visit me to make sure I was okay.
"Aww, you're such a sweetie pie! Come on, let's go chill on my swing set!" I grabbed his wrist and led him off around to the back of the yard, where a big, colourful set of swings stood proudly.
"Um...I think I'm a bit too heavy for that, (Y/N)..." He explained as I jumped onto one of the bright yellow seats. He was right. It was built for kids twelve and under. There's no way it would hold both of us. "How about I push you instead?"
"I'm up for that!" I beamed; tilting my head backwards so I could still see him as he began to push me back and forth. "So, do you still get to go on the training camp? I mean, I'm sure you will...Mr. Aizawa's really just a big softy."
"I dunno...he seemed pretty serious...and he's anything but soft..." Kirishima hummed; his warm hands tapping against my back to send me higher. I leant back even further; giggling at the sight of his upside down face.

"Did I ever tell you about the time he carried me around all day in his scarf when I was a cat? He totally stashed me away and he was sooooo excited that I didn't have the heart to tell him until he literally almost took me home!" I recalled the memory; the aniseed scent of his hair still fresh in my mind after a whole year. Kirishima burst out in a melodic laugh; clutching his stomach and missing a few of my backswings.
"W..wait...s..seriously?!" He had tears gathering around his crimson eyes as this point.
"Yeppers! He named me Eraser the Third...and I'd honestly rather not know what became of Eraser the Second..." The night was no longer quiet as we guffawed and chatted on about this and that; meaningless things that made us smile. About an hour later, Kirishima was leaning against the frame of the swing whilst I twisted the chain around.

"Hey...do...you...have a c..crush on anyone..?" He asked suddenly; a waver in his voice. A little startled by his question, my two foxy ears pricked up on my head; courtesy of my quirk.

Dabi...Dabi...Dabi...

"I guess I do!" I said with a shrug; releasing the chain and sending myself into a whirling spin. "Weeeeeee!" Kirishima stood straighter; his arms crossed behind his back, where his hands clenched the plastic pole rather tightly.
"Wh..who?" I thought it was rather odd that he was staring over my head rather than my eyes, but didn't make much of it. I wanted to tell him, but I couldn't. How would I explain having feelings for a villainous murderer?
"That's my little secret!" I giggled with a wink; my finger coming up to press against my lips. "What about you? Do you like like someone?" My matching fox tail had popped out from the band of my pyjama shorts now; wiggling around excitedly like a fluffy ginger worm. The first year's face seemed to glow in the dark, but he kept a smile on his face, though it was kind of wonky.

"Y..yeah...she's...really something else..." He gulped; reaching up to scratch under his bandanna. "A..actually...(Y/N)...I...uh...w..wanted to te-"
"(Y/N)! IT'S TEN THIRTY! LET POOR KIRISHIMA GO HOME ALREADY! IT'S A SCHOOL NIGHT!" My mother's voice slashed his sentence off, and I frowned; climbing off the swing and approaching the fidgety boy.
"Sorry...What were you gonna say?" I asked; leaning towards him and tilting my head in curiosity. Kirishima went to speak; his mouth opening and closing like a beached fish for a few moments before he closed it again with a small sigh.
"N..nothing...It wasn't important. I should probably let you get some rest, anyway..." He smiled at me, and I pouted; annoyed that my mother had to cut him off.
"Okay, I guess...Thanks for coming to see me, anyway! You're welcome any time, 'kay?!" My tail went back to wagging around, and I wrapped my arms around his neck for a hug. I was a hugger; everybody who knew me was well aware of that, and Kirishima had often been on the receiving end. But this time, he was a little stiffer. His hold was a little stronger, and I could feel his pulse race against me.
"I..I'll see you at school, (Y/N)...S..sleep well!" His swallow was audible as he pressed a sloppy, almost bruising kiss to my head before pulling away and sprinting off around the side of the house; leaving me with pricked ears and a bristling puff of a tail.

What was that all about..?

Letting my confusion slide, I shrugged my shoulders and climbed up the tree back to my room; choosing a raccoon this time as my vessel. Little did I know, that somewhere in the thick shrubbery; hidden deep within the shadows of the back yard, there were eyes watching me.

Sharp, glistening ocean eyes...

***My love for Kirishima is endless. Bless his manly soul ugh***
