EIGHTY: Bells

"Y..you're really doing this?! Like, seriously?!"

Mustard had been repeating the same thing over and over for the past hour, ever since I had woken him up and explained what was going on. Toga, on the other hand, was so excited she could barely string a complete sentence together without squealing.

"For the last time, Hisoka, yes! I love him. I wanna do this." I laughed, placing my hands on his shoulders. He didn't look at all convinced, but he relaxed, just a little.
"I just...yeah...okay...If it makes you happy..."

"Of course it'll make her happy! It was her idea, after all!" Toga gave the young man a slap upside the head, immediately ruffling his hair after the fact. "I mean, Dabi's kind of a psycho, but (N/N) can fix him! She's just a bag of blood and sunshine!"

As Toga pinched at my cheeks, Mustard's pensive expression remained.
"I...don't think something like that can be fixed..." He murmured, quickly clearing his throat and motioning towards the door to the storeroom, where we had decided to hold our little shotgun ceremony. "Come on, they're probably waiting for you..."

Alright..! I'm doing this!

Taking a deep, calming breath, which honestly didn't do much, I opened the door. At the far side of the room stood Mr. Compress and Dabi, turning from their conversation once I made my presence known.

"Wonderful! Now that we have the bride, we can begin!" The former announced, obviously enjoying the excuse to be a little more theatrical than usual. Not that it was anything special. We all wore our normal attire, and we were surrounded by non-perishables. Not exactly what anyone would call romantic.

"Ready to make the biggest mistake of your life, Tenderfoot?" Dabi looked down at me as I stood before him, and I pouted.
"I'll be the one to decide whether it's a mistake or not." I replied firmly, hearing Toga smack Mustard somewhere behind us after he muttered something bitter.

"Alright then...Compress, get us hitched already." We both turned to the dapper gentleman in question, and he cleared his throat, fixing his posture.
"As requested, I shall make this short and sweet. Dear friends and family, we are gathered here today to witness and celebrate the union of (L/N) (F/N) and T-"

"I said quick, magic man." Dabi cut him off with a snap, and I sighed, looking into the side of his face. He seemed a little agitated. Was he nervous? Mr. Compress didn't hide his offence all too well, but continued nonetheless.

"True marriage begins well before the wedding day, and the efforts of marriage continue well beyond the ceremony's end. A brief moment in time and the stroke of the pen are all that is required to create the legal bond of marriage, but it takes a lifetime of love, commitment, and compromise to make marriage durable and everlasting-"

Dabi opened his mouth to cut him off again, but I nudged him with my foot, meeting his eyes with a stern look to tell him to just roll with it. Our friend was doing us a favour, so the least he could do was let the man enjoy it.

Besides...I like it...

Clearing his throat, the masked man continued.
"Today you declare your commitment to each other before family and friends. Your yesterdays were the path to this moment, and your journey to a future of togetherness becomes a little clearer with each new day."

Toga was doing her best to contain her excited squeaks behind us, and Mustard kept his eyes to the floor, shifting his weight back and forth. I knew he had his concerns, but I also knew that the boy was almost as overly protective as Dabi was. He was still too young to understand.

Our lives can actually begin after this war...We can live happily, and even if we can't completely heal the past...we have a future. Together. All of us!

"Do you, (L/N) (F/N), take...Dabi...as your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?" Giddiness filled my body as I nodded, smiling brightly at my very-soon-to-be husband.
"I do!"

Mr. Compress turned to Dabi, his hands clasped formally in front of him.
"And do you," He murmured something I couldn't quite catch under his breath to the ravonet. "take (L/N) (F/N), to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?"

Dabi faced me, his ocean eyes silently raging with something was wasn't quite new, but still not familiar to me.
"Yeah, I do." He hummed, thumbs toying with the frayed material of his coat.

"Ugh, I just love weddings!" Toga squealed loudly, holding her rosy cheeks as she wiggled around on the spot. I was sure my face was the same colour as I sucked in a deep, composing breath, ready to seal the deal.

"Without further ado, the rings..." Our masked officiant paused as he looked down to our hands. "My apologies. It seems as though you have exchanged them already. So, now then, if anyone can show just cause why this couple can not lawfully be joined in matrimony, let them speak now or forever hold their peace."

Dabi straightened up all of a sudden, looking over my shoulder and narrowing his eyes. Confused, I followed his gaze, meeting concerned amber. Mustard had removed his helmet, and was locked in a wordless moment with my almost husband.

It was painfully obvious that the young teen had a hell of a lot to say, but nothing moved past his clenched jaw. I would have lied if I had said it hadn't upset me, but he had every right to his own opinions. At the very least, I could appreciate the fact that he held his tongue.

"Doesn't look like anyone objects. Wrap it up, Mister." Externally unphased, Dabi returned his attention to me, but I could tell there was something going on in his head. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew he'd tell me eventually, when the time was right.

"And now, by the power vested in me by an online officiant course I stumbled upon fifteen years ago, I hereby pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride!" As Mr. Compress threw his hands in the air, Dabi leaned in and pressed a chaste kiss to my lips. It wasn't the way I had hoped it would be, but it was enough.

"Ding dong ding dong! Wedding bells! I mean, there could have been more red, but it was still cute!" Toga yanked me away from my new husband and squeezed me in a bear hug, twirling me around the expanse of the room until I felt dizzy.

"Th..thanks, Himiko! It really means a lot to me that you came along to be a part of this!" Hugging her back, I allowed her to get all of her energy out, eventually allowing my gaze to shift over to the brooding teenager off to the side of the room. Excusing myself, I approached him. "Hisoka? You alright?"

Rolling his helmet around in his hands, he nodded once, staring at his refldction in the lenses.
"Yeah, sorry...I don't mean to dampen the mood. Guess I'm just tired...It's late...or early, or whatever..."

You really don't have to lie to me...

Gently, I pulled him into a hug, one hand stroking his messy brown hair so it wasn't sticking out in weird places.
"I'm sorry about the time...but is that really all? I know you don't approve of this, so you can tell me. I won't be upset, I promise."

Loosely, he held me back, his chin resting on my shoulder. Since when had he grown so much?
"Rose coloured glasses..." He whispered, confliction evident in his tone.
"Huh? What do you mean..?" Confused, I tried to pull back and look at him, but he wouldn't allow it.

"Forget it...Hopefully they stay on, for your sake..." Clearing his throat, he squeezed me once more and stepped back, wiping his nose with the sleeve of his shirt. "I like seeing you happy, (Y/N). It suits you."

One minute he can sound like a child, the next he's so mature I can barely understand him.

My perplexed expression melted into a soft smile, and I placed my hand on his shoulder.
"Thank you, Hisoka. I really am happy."

"Come on, you two! Papers to sign, you know! We need the Mrs and our second witness!" Mr. Compress called to us, and we headed on over, leaning in to see that everyone else had already signed the document he had prepared for the occasion. The legally binding document that would start our true lives together.

Accepting the pen from our officiant, I turned to Mustard and held it out to him, chewing on the inside of my cheek.
"It's up to you. If you're really not comfortable with this, then I won't force you to sign...but I really hope you will..."

The boy was conflicted, that was for sure, but I could see the wave of defeat wash over him as he accepted the pen, leaning in to sign as a legal witness. Once completed, he handed it back to me with a heavy sigh.
"Congratulations..." He murmured, stepping away and leaving me to my last step for becoming a married woman.

Steadying the document with one hand, the tip of the pen hovered over paper as I glanced up at Dabi, who wasn't looking at me, but rather the dotted line. No part of him seemed particularly excited, nor upset by our union, but I knew that was how he worked.

Looking back down, I began to write, pausing halfway through my signature for a brief moment when his caught my attention. His real, full name, in black and white. That was big, especially for him, and it made my chest swell with warmth.

With a flick of my wrist, I sealed the deal, and Mr. Compress rolled up the document, using his quirk to safely store it in his breast pocket.
"I offer my most sincere congratulations to the both of you. Now, if you don't mind, I would like to get at least a few hours of sleep before the sun rises. We can properly celebrate at a later date."

Bidding our goodbyes, and on my part thanks, we all went our separate ways down the hall, Dabi and I heading towards our shared room.
"S..so...what do we do now..?" I questioned nervously, my heart still thrumming away in my chest.

Humming, Dabi strode a few lengths ahead of me, his hands in his pockets as he glanced back over his shoulder. Unlike back during our little ceremony, his eyes were alive, almost glowing in the dark hallway.

"Well, what do newly-weds usually do on their wedding night..?"

***I'm sorry this took forever and I'm sorry it's s h i t.

I haven't been well lately (not that it's anything new) and writers block seems to have an unrequited love for me. Partnered with my daughter starting school and me trying to find a job, I haven't had much time. I'll try harder for you guys!

No idea how weddings work, so...I tried pfff

Also the Mr. Compress tattoo I got makes me do the happy emoji. He sits well next to Bakugou.
