CH 3 - Lunch

2nd POV

It has been 2 weeks since you entered the volleyball boys' club as their manager. Things aren't exactly as difficult as you thought it to be, until you started to notice the gradual change of your environment. It was hardly subtle, the way some girls would glare at you and some guys would try to talk to you.

A mix of anxiety, worry, and a small tint of fear is the best description of it.

If the topic went over to what could possibly be one of the positive things about your school life ever since you stepped into their lair would be Suna.

Given that you are both classmates - you both spent time next to each other in class. The both of you weren't exactly close per se, but you guys were hardly strangers either.

Atsumu is the hardest person to get by. You just learned from Kita that it was indeed Osamu who Mizuse tried to date, resulting to her resignation and the lack of manager in Inarizaki's volleyball team.

It was stupid, really. Joining and assuming to take a responsibility that big while going against the very policy you signed yourself into. The former manager was petty and too focused on getting Osamu's attention.

The blond Miya never really accepted their old manager, it's hard to earn his approval especially if you are indifferent from the fangirls that he think of as annoying, noisy pigs.

Hearing those from Suna sent a frown plastered on your mouth. You were worried that Atsumu will never accept you - but then again, it shouldn't be your primary problem. They are your responsibility, and you ought to do your job the way it's supposed to be done.

Contrary to Atsumu, Osamu was rather more comfortable to be with. He loves food just as much as you do and it makes you happy everytime he'd ask from you.

"Yo, Sukii. The twins said they're at the cafeteria," Suna said as he stood up and waited for you.

You shook your head to decline for the nth time. He frowned since you always turned down their lunch invites.

"Hardly everyday or even any day we ask someone to eat with us you know," Suna joked.

He laughed when he saw how your head dropped lower, a sign that shows you feel guilty.

"C'mon, what are you even afraid of? You won't die once people see how much you pack for lunch," Suna snorted and went outside the classroom with you behind him.

That's right. Suna knew you are a big eater. It was because of that one time he forgot to return your notes and noticed that you keep going to the rooftop to eat by yourself. You couldn't forget how wide his eyes got when he saw your lunch and how he bursted out laughing after.

You were just thankful that he genuinely find it amazing and amusing.

"I appreciate it a lot, I really do! But I don't think I'll ever be ready to eat in public in school," You frowned. Suna just sighed loudly.

He side-eyed you when you separated ways from him, with you going to the rooftop and him meeting the twins at the cafeteria.

Suna was surprised when the twins stood before him, also eyeing you just before you disappeared.

"Does she always eat alone?" Atsumu raised a brow.

Suna nodded. Osamu pondered with his arms crossed before he came up with an idea.

"Why don't we join her, then?" He grinned.

Atsumu rolled his eyes, "Why? You only want her food."

"Yeah, and?" Osamu raised a brow at him. The blond Miya's eye twitched as he scowled at the silver Miya. Suna's lips formed to a thin line before going up the rooftop stairs with his bento in hand. Osamu followed suit, with Atsumu tailing behind them, grumbling under his breath.

Your eyes sparkled and almost tear up when you saw the beauty before you. For today's lunch, you were having an extremely juicy and umami katsudon, paired with a box full of tempura, salad, miso soup, and 10 sakura mochi.

The doors behind you opened, surprising you.

As if by reflex, you spread your arms wide beside you to protect your food. The three guys stared amused.

"Hello...?" You started as you dropped your arms in embarrassment. Atsumu was laughing at you with amusement and mockery behind his sly eyes. Osamu was already drooling at your lunch, and Suna went ahead and sat beside you.

"Why do you always eat here?" Osamu asked as he sat down beside you, opposite to Suna. Atsumu sat in opposite to you.

"It's quiet and refreshing," You gave a small smile towards your lunch with a small blush. Suna just raised his brow.

"Are you sure you just don't want to share your food?" Atsumu said bored, even though he was already chewing on one tempura from your lunchbox. Osamu kicked him and took a tempura for himself.

"Idiots! You didn't ask her if you could get some," Suna narrowed his eyes at them as he ate his lunch.

"No, no. It's okay! I like sharing my food," You trailed off the moment you felt being too excited.

Osamu grinned at you, "It's okay, Sukii. You can be comfortable with us. Let's eat?"

Your heart thumped as heat made its way to your face. A smile graced your lips as your eyes disappeared.

"That's good to hear!" You beamed, making him glance at you with a slightly surprised face.

Cute. Osamu thought as he stuffed his mouth with a sakura mochi.

The boys stared at you as you took your blazer off, untied your low ponytail, rolled up your sleeves to your elbows, and set your glasses on top of the blazer you folded on your lap.

They slightly jumped when you clasped both your hands together a little too hard and smiled widely, "Thank you for the food!"

Surprise and shock was evident on their faces when they watched you eat so much with so much happiness to the point you were giving a very flowery aura.

I never met someone who eats so much with overflowing joy aside Osamu, though he's more passive about it. Suna sweatdropped as he gulped.

It's like I'm watching another 'Samu. Atsumu grinned.

Amazing! Her way of eating makes me more hungry. Osamu grinned and matched your pace of stuffing food in your mouths.

The three can't help but stare as you chow down your food with a lipped-smile on your lips. It was bite after bite, with no pauses in between.

"Mmmmm!" You hummed in glee as you tried to calm yourself with your palms on your cheeks.

You turned to Osamu with a smile and held your chopstick up that had tempura and a sauce.

"Osamu! Try this one, tempura with a sauce I made myself!" You said with sparkles in your eyes. He nodded eagerly and bit on the food you held with your chopstick. His eyes widened as he turned to you with a blush.

"Whoa! This is so flavorful! It's like teriyaki but slightly different - it totally complimented the tempura's meaty interior!" He beamed as he asked for another.

Atsumu and Suna turned to each other, then back to you and Osamu.

Suna took a secret photo between you and him. Atsumu peeked over his shoulder to see the picture and snickered.

"They're food simpletons," Suna muttered as he put his phone back into his pocket. The poor boy's eyes widened when you stuffed a sakura mochi in his mouth.

"Eat, Suna! Eat, eat, eat!" You beamed and happily laughed. Suna almost choked but nodded and chewed on the mochi.

"I made them from scratch, you know!" You hummed with a smug smile. Osamu gasped.

"You're so amazing, Sukii! How did you learn how to cook?" He asked with big curiosity and you smirked at him.

"By doing lots and lots of cooking! And eating!" You giggled and continued to finish the rest of the sakura mochi, as well as drinking a lot of water after.

Atsumu winced, "You both eat so much that it makes me want to throw up.."

"No throwing up with my food, Atsumu," You pointed at him.

"Alright, alright," He muttered, not feeling the need to debate.

Osamu grinned and leaned back on the ground with both of his arms propped behind him. He stared up in the sky as you did the same.

"I'm still hungry."

"I'm still hungry."

You and Osamu looked at each other after saying the same thing at the same time. A chuckle escaped your lips as you proceeded to clean up your lunchbox to put inside your bag again.

"I'll cook more next time. Make sure you eat with me, Osamu!" You grinned at him. Osamu's heart fluttered at your words and returned your grin. The boy was nodding so excitedly that it looked so cute. Atsumu just laid back on the floor while staring at the sky, while Suna was already on his phone.

There was little time spare before lunch ended so you and Osamu talked nonstop about cooking. He asked your favorite meals, cuisines, the intervals of your eating schedule, and most importantly, your secrets in cooking stuff.

It threw you off when Osamu asked a new question.

"Why is almost half of your hair red?"

Your eyes slightly widened in shock as you froze. There it was again, the gnawing anxiety that fears to be judged.

A blush crept its way to your cheeks as you looked away in embarrassment.

It wouldn't hurt, right? He won't judge me, right??

You never really shared the story of your hair much to people. You got used to ignoring them everytime they asked about it, but this was a different case - it felt like you can't run from it.

"I... ate too much raspberries when I was 5 years old. It only manifested when I neared 9...," You sheepishly said, saying the last sentence in barely above a whisper.

The energy was wholly drained from your body when you saw how the three boys looked at you in extreme shock.

I wanna die. You cried mentally.

"You're joking, right??" Atsumu blurted out.

"Uhhh?" Suna raised a brow.

"Unfortunately I'm not," Your lips turned upside down.

Hesitation washed over you as you go turn to look at Osamu.

You didn't expect him to be pondering with his arms crossed and his pointer finger resting under his chin.

He lazily looked at you with his droopy eyes slightly wide, "Then if I eat too much blueberries, will half of my hair turn blue as well?"

Atsumu kicked his back and Suna just looked at him in disbelief. Osamu and Atsumu started to argue while Suna couldn't even process what he said and wasn't able to pull out his phone to take their pictures.

A shaky smile made its way to your mouth.

"Pft!"

They both stopped as the three boys looked at you.

"Hahaha! What is that? It doesn't work that way," You laughed and laughed with a blush on your cheeks. Your hands tried to cover your mouth from laughing too much but it was no use.

"Do you think Kita-san also laughs like that?" Atsumu muttered in question to Suna who furrowed his brows and thought the same. Osamu was smiling as he couldn't stop staring at you.

Cute.. He thought for the nth time.

"It's still one of the many mysteries in my life, but overtime I stopped worrying about it," You sighed and stood up to brush the invisible dust off of your skirt.

"It's almost time," You said after you checked on your phone. They all stood up and gathered their own empty boxes of lunch.

"Sukii. Do you think you can, like, buy me some poccari sweat before training after class?" Atsumu asked as you all went down the stairs. Suna just side-eyed him.

"You don't have your own two legs?" Suna sarcastically said.

Osamu rolled his eyes, "Buy your own drinks, dumbass."

"Shut up both of you! Sigh, you guys are not dependable at all," Atsumu pouted.

"Ew, that wasn't funny you know," Osamu frowned.

"I wasn't joking you bastard!" Atsumu yelled and kept playing fighting with his brother. You were surprised they didn't tumble down the stairs doing so.

Suna rolled his eyes and held you on your back to get away from the two idiots, "We'll get going first. See ya."

"Hey, no fair!" Osamu said as he caught up to you. The dark haired boy raised his brow at his sudden approach.

"Your class is the other way," Suna pointed to the other hallway.

"Yeah, just wait," Osamu said as he turned to you.

"Let's go to the convenience store before and after practice today," He said with a blank face.

You sweatdropped, "Sure, Osamu. But why? What for? I can buy the food you need instead and you go ahead with your training to save time."

He shook his head, "I want to go there with you."

"Hmm, okay," You gave him a small smile before fixing your low ponytail and glasses. Suna sighed in boredom and started to walk again.

"See you Osamu, Atsumu!" You waved to the twins. The blond Miya waved back with a smirk and Osamu waved back with his usual deadpanned expression.
