When it comes to LGBTQ+ most of us will think of romance related stories. As it's the season of coming together and family time, we'd love to see more stories focussing on another side of LGBTQ+: that of family and friends.

So for our #LGBTQFamilies event we'd like for you to write a feel-good story of any length about LGBTQ+ characters within a family setting this holiday season.

Guidelines

As this holiday event is not strictly a contest, there is no deadline and no giveaway prize. But as this is the season of giving, we still wanted to provide something special for taking up our challenge – this #LGBTQFamilies sticker.

You are free to use this participation sticker on stories with the #LGBTQFamilies and #LGBTQ tags.

Share your LGBTQ Families story in the comments section with a short summary so readers and writers can check it out.

Rules

● Story must include a family-oriented holiday, celebration, or festival.

● Story must include a clear LGBTQ+ theme and/or character(s).

● Entries must be published on Wattpad and follow the submission guidelines outlined.

● Must be a new story (so written for this event).

FAQ

● I don't celebrate anything at this time of year, can I still take part?

Yes, we're happy for you to write about other family-oriented celebrations so long as they fit our guidelines.

● Will there be any winners?

No, we won't be looking for winners in this event, though we will be keeping an eye out for great stories using the #LGBTQFamilies tag!

● How many words should I write?

You may write a story of any length for this event, whether it be the start of a brand new full-length novel or a piece of flash fiction. We'd love to see collections of #LGBTQFamilies stories too.

● Are you accepting non-fiction/poetry?

Yes. If you wish to write poetry or a real life story about LGBTQ+ families, you're welcome to use the tag and claim our special sticker.

● Can I write fanfiction?

Yes, fanfiction may qualify for our event so long as it adheres to our guidelines and family theme, the same as any story.

● Are we allowed to write Mature stories?

We're not really looking for romantic stories for this event, and we certainly want something warm and feel-good! Whether you write Mature fiction or not is up to you, so long as it's correctly rated, but do be aware that this is about familial and platonic love rather than romance.

● Am I allowed to collaborate with friends to write a story?

Yes! If you haven't collaborated a story with friends before, why not give it a try? It's the perfect season for harmony, after all.

● I don't identify as LGBTQ+, can I still enter?

Yes. Everyone is free to enter, no matter how they identify.
