(21) Sixteen Days
'I really need to go, James. I am supposed to meet her in another ten minutes.' Remus sighed.
'Which one, Remus? Which quill should I use?'
'I don't care. Use that one.' He pointed at the left.
'Yeah, right. Thanks, Remus.'
'Wait you are buying the other one.'
'Exactly.'
'Whatever.' Remus shrugged. 'Now I really need to get going.'
'Fine. But afterwards, you are going to help me in buying the correct flying parchment.'
'Seriously, a flying parchment filled with an apology letter and let me guess a song about your good looks? That's not going to annoy lily?'
'Evans will love it.'
'Yeah, she will love kicking you in your stupid face.' Remus muttered silently.
'What was that?' James asked.
'I said I am leaving now. Can't end up late and keep waiting my date.'
'About that, who is she anyway?'
'Jennifer. Mary helped me find her.'
'Why on earth would she agree to do that to Dorcas, her best friend. That's insane.'
Remus smirked and opened the door. With a slight wave he closed the door.
And in a few minutes, opened another.
'Hey.' Remus said.
Remus hadn't expected Jennifer to be like this. Jennifer was way above his standards. Way too hot.
He became a bit nervous.
'Hey.' Jennifer said. 'What do you plan to do here, exactly?'
'Win— Get to know her boyfriend, you know.'
'You are here to win the breakup, aren't you, you sly minx.' Jennifer smirked.
'Wait, you know about winning the break-up?' Remus asked.
'Everybody knows about that.'
'So Dorcas is trying to win the break-up?' Remus muttered.
'Could be.' Jennifer said.
'So um you won't bail out in between?' Remus asked.
'Nah.'
There where a few moments of silence in which Remus looked around here and there.
He couldn't even look at her rather talk to her - he had no idea how she and Mary were good friends.
'And here they come.' Remus said. 'The bride and the groom.'
'Shut up. Richard's actually a nice guy.'
'That's the abs speaking isn't it.'
Dorcas stopped in her tracks as she looked at Jennifer.
Remus could clearly see she felt threatened by her. But then Dorcas relaxed and came to them. With her tagged her stupid boyfriend Richman.
They sat down onto the opposite side of them.
'Mary's friend.' Dorcas said, recognizing her after a couple of eye twitches.
'Yeah, I don't go by that name though. It's Jennifer.'
'So, Dorcas says that you two have been doing great.'
'Why would you tell him that?' Richard whispered.
'I think he means about the relationship.' Dorcas hissed silently but enough for Remus to have a shadow of a grin.
'How are things with you and Jennifer are going?' Richard asked.
'Jennifer and I are fine. Aren't we dear? Dear.'
'Yeah.' She said snapping out of a daze.
'You are? Oh. How long have you been dating?'
'Two yea—' Jennifer started.
'Two weeks. What about you and Richard?' Remus asked hurriedly interrupting what was about to be a really stupid lie.
'Earlier than you two.' Richard said. 'Being in a relationship you lose track of time.'
'Early you say.. Can't be earlier than sixteen days?'
'Way before sixteen days. A month perhaps.' Richard muttered.
Remus's face went expressionless.
Remus got up. 'Um I need to go.'
He got up and left before anyone could say anything.
Or maybe they were saying. He couldn't say. His mind wasn't focussed on that part.
It just took sixteen seconds to ruin the night. And probably more nights.
The door opened and he heard a voice in the faint distance.
'Remus, wait.' Dorcas said.
Remus ignored her.
After a while she caught up to him running and ran in front of him facing him.
'I can explain.'
'Yeah?'
'Actually no I can't, but Remus we both knew it was a mistake, right?'
'The kiss is not the damn point. You were dating Richard. Do I mean nothing to you more than a person you could cheat on? Anyway, I don't want to be having this conversation. So, have a good life. And congratulations on winning the break-up.'
He left without taking a single glance at her and without hearing a word.
***
'I don't want to talk about it.'
'Atleast tell me whether you slept with Jennifer or not?' Sirius pestered him.
Remus ignored him and headed for the dorm.
James slapped his head.
'Ow. What was that for?'
'He's emotionally unstable. Try to feel for the guy.'
'But even if he didn't destroy their relationship or his plan backfired, why wouldn't he sleep with her?' Sirius asked.
'He's remus. He's worried about that integrity shit. But I think this is bigger than that. Maybe Richard took it to the next level with Dorcas.' Peter said.
'They're getting married?' James asked.
'They're having a threesome?' Sirius asked.
'No. Neither. They must be going to some cheesy event as a couple. On a completely different topic, uhm do you have some cheese?' Peter asked.
'Yeah, that does have reason for remmy to flip out.' Sirius said.
'No it doesn't.' James said. 'Maybe he just feels uncomfortable hanging out with his ex.'
'Yeah that is weird. Now back to the cheese part.' Peter said.
'I got it. Jennifer didn't show up. Remus got insulted because Mary tricked her.' Sirius bumped his fist on the table as a Eureka moment.
'Thats probably it.' James agreed.
Remus was leaning on the dorm door, listening to their rants. For a moment he considered actually telling them what happened.
Then he decided against it.
With a sigh, he stopped listening to Peter and James argueing about cheese.
His mind went blank. A vision glazed before his eyes in that moment. And it dissapearing within a second.
A battlefield with corpses lying all around.
And in the background a cold menacing laughter which gave him shivers.
He was sure he had seen something he wasn't supposed to see. With tiredness and despair filling him, he fell asleep.
In his dream, he was in a dark cave.
He couldn't see the person but could hear him.
'lupin'
'Who's there?'
'Its me.'
And suddenly before him someone appeared.
'Soon.'
Remus could feel the sweat drenching down his neck as he was came face to face with the one who had destroyed his life.
He was face to face with the devil. The satan of werewolves.
Fenrir Greyback.
'Not long now.'
'For what?'
Greyback didn't reply but grinned with his teeth showing. His teeth were uneven and had blood in most of them.
'When the time comes, you will understand what you have to do.'
And with those mystical words his Greyback faded and his dream entered in the land of pitch black darkness - sound sleep.
