Arrows Kill
"I-I've got him, Ollie! Shoot!"
Oliver aims his arrow toward Thawne and fires. Right before the arrow would hit him, however, Thawne manages to flip it so Barry's on the receiving end.
"Barry! No!!!"
...
"Oliver?
"What?" Oliver asked, his eyes still staring at Barry's body.
"It's not your fault. It's his." Thea pointed at Thawne's body, which just happened to lie next to Barry's.
Suddenly, that made Oliver angry.
He picked up Thawne's body and threw it. Then he grabbed the arrow that was stuck in Thawne's chest and stabbed him, over and over.
Thea tried to stop him, tried to hold his arm, but he ripped out of her grip with a strength didn't know he had.
"Ollie, please don't make me do this," Thea begged, but Oliver was done listening.
Suddenly, there was a prick in his neck.
The last thing he saw was Barry's lifeless face, tears mixed with sweat. His lips were open, trying desperately to form something.
With a pang, Oliver realized that the word Barry was trying to say was his own name.
Oliver.
...
"Oliver?"
Oliver opened his eyes.
Why wasn't Barry here? And what had happened?
Then he remembered.
"Barry," he whispered before breaking down.
He had killed Barry. It was all his fault. He should have aimed better.
"It's not your fault, Oliver," Caitlin said, but Oliver could see the tears she was barely keeping at bay.
"Yes, it is! I aimed that arrow! I fired it! It's my fault, Caitlin, so don't lie to me!"
That's when her tears came loose.
"It wasn't your fault because it was mine," she whispered brokenly.
"How was it your fault? I shot the arrow!" At this point, Oliver might as well have been screaming.
"If... if I had been there, I could have helped him before he bled out. Instead, I was here on vacation. I could have helped him, Oliver!"
Oliver shook his head.
"We all need vacations. Besides, you wouldn't have been able to save him. Trust me, I know. He bled out a few seconds after the arrow hit him."
Caitlin just sobbed harder.
Oliver stood up and pulled her into a hug.
Right now, he would need to be strong. For everyone. Losing Barry, the light of his life would destroy him, but he couldn't let it ruin anyone else.
It was his burden to bear.
After all, he had killed Barry. Him, not anyone else.
...
Note: So, my ship name for Caitlin and Oliver would be Green Frost. Awesome, right?
(That's totally going in Arrowverse Shipettes).
Hope you enjoyed!
