PERSONALITY AND CHARACTER ANALYSIS: Zoth K'lar (also known as Zelda Coulson) is optimistic and determined despite her situation. She copes by using humor and she is very confident in herself. Due to her trust issues and her occasional emotional instability, she has trouble reeling herself in. However, she is good at controlling herself, especially if she has help from someone she trusts. She has a gift for dealing with children and she is a fast thinker. She does, however, have a rather idealistic way of thinking, which can be good or bad or both, all depending on the situation. Despite being alive for over sixty years, she has a child-like innocence about her and an unwavering positivity that shines through.

CHARACTER ARC:
Book 1: Hidden
There is a flashback to the invasion of the Skrull by the Kree, showcasing a young hybrid alien. Then, it flashes forward to the present time, in the year 1995, where an eighteen-year-old girl named Zelda Coulson wakes up to her father, Philip J. Coulson, wishing her a happy birthday. He gifts her a car and offers to take her to Blockbuster so that she can buy a movie. Coulson let’s her drive the car by herself and she buys the movie, While You Were Sleeping. However, before she leaves, someone from outer space crashes into Blockbuster and introduces herself as Vers from Kree Air Force. She befriends Zelda, only for Zelda to realize that Coulson, who works for S.H.I.E.L.D, and his partner, Nicholas Joseph Fury, are searching for Vers because of her ties to aliens and Fury has been assigned to keep tabs on her. Zelda feels connected to the woman and wants to help her, but Coulson urges Zelda to stay away.
Using Vers’s extracted memories, Vers and Fury go to the Project Pegasus installation, (a joint project between S.H.I.E.L.D, NASA, and to study the Tesseract), at a U.S. Air Force base. Zelda follows them, despite Coulson’s advice not to. They learn that Vers was a pilot in the air force who was thought to have died in 1989 while putting Dr. Wendy Lawson's experimental light-speed engine to the test. Vers knows Lawson as the woman from her dreams. In the same base, Zelda finds some information about herself; the U.S. government started keeping tabs on her in 1965, but her exact date of birth is unknown. Zelda makes a mental note to ask Coulson about this. After Fury lets S.H.I.E.L.D. know where they are, a team shows up. Fury assists Vers in making an escape aboard a plane with Lawson's stowaway Flerken, Goose, after realizing that Keller is Talos. Meanwhile, Zelda labels Fury as a traitor and makes her way back to Coulson. Coulson finally comes clean to Zelda and tells her that he is not her birth father. He admits that she was left on his doorstep as a baby and that he suspected her genetics to be different, so he kept her identity a secret from the government.
Feeling hurt and betrayed, Zelda leaves to join Vers and Fury in finding former pilot Maria Rambeau, the last person to see Carol and Lawson alive. They take a plane to Louisiana. There, Vers's true identity is revealed to be Carol Danvers, who Maria and her daughter Monica formerly described as being like family to them. Arriving unarmed, Talos says that Lawson was a renegade Kree scientist named Mar-Vell who was helping the Skrulls. The Skrulls are refugees looking for a new place to call home due to the genocidal war that the Kree have waged on them. Talos also explains that there is one special alien who they are looking for in particular; the first Kree-Skrull hybrid who went missing decades ago. Carol is reminded of the disaster by Talos, who plays a recovered blackbox tape from Lawson's jet. Yon-Rogg killed Mar-Vell to stop her from destroying the engine before the Kree could collect it. Carol destroyed the engine herself and then took in the energy from the explosion, which gave her new powers but also caused her memory to fade.
Zelda, Carol, Talos, Fury, and Maria find Lawson's hidden lab in orbit around the planet, where Lawson has hidden Talos's family and other Skrull refugees, along with the Tesseract, which powers Lawson's engine. Shockingly, there is one Kree among the Skrulls; the only other Kree besides Mar-Vell to stray from his roots and help the Skrulls. His name is Bo-Kloff K’lar and he was in a forbidden marriage with a Skrull woman named Zalokos, who was tragically murdered during the war. He left their only child, Zoth K’lar, the first Kree-Skrull hybrid, on Earth, where she was raised by a man named Philip J. Coulson. Very soon, Zelda realizes that she is Zoth, but she doesn’t tell anyone there. Instead, she contacts Coulson and tells him that she wants to talk about it when she returns to Earth.
Carol connects with the Supreme Intelligence in the lab after being taken prisoner by the Kree Starforce. She is able to realize her full potential once she removes the Kree implant that had been suppressing her powers during their encounter. Goose, who turns out to be an alien Flerken, is retrieved by Fury during the ensuing battle. Bo-Kloff is found and ambushed by the Starforce. He is taken to another area of the ship as a prisoner, only to realize that his captor is Zoth who has shape shifted for the first time. She says that it came naturally to her when she saw that he was in trouble, and he says that her mother would be proud. They have a heart-to-heart just before a battle ensues. Goose causes Fury's left eye to go blind by swallowing the Tesseract and scratching him. After Carol takes down a Kree bomber, Ronan the Accuser, a Kree officer, and his squadron are forced to flee.
Bo-Kloff invites Zoth to stay with him so that they can make up for lost time. Many of the Skrulls also want her to be a diplomat between the Skrull and the Kree, hoping that she can help them find some common ground. She goes to Earth to say goodbye to Coulson and returns to space a few weeks later where she serves as a diplomat for three years and teaches history to Kree and Skrull children. She also teaches her father how to do it and he builds trust with the Kree and the Skrull so that he can take over. After that, she returns to Earth to purse a normal life. Coulson offers her to be the first member of the Avengers initiative, but she politely declines and decides to follow her dreams of being a Social Studies teacher.
Book 2: Found
Thirteen years later, in the year 2008, Bo-Kloff travels to Earth to visit his daughter, but he is captured and imprisoned by a terrorist group known as the Ten Rings, who want to use his alien abilities to commit terrorist attacks. He is rescued by a software engineer from Stark Industries named Omar Zaman, who has a wife and two children. Bo-Kloff contacts Coulson, who decides to let Zoth know what happened. Zoth is living happily in New York with a successful job as a Social Studies teacher at Brooklynn Middle School, under the name Zelda Coulson. Though she has been alive for thirty-two years, her alien genetics have caused her to age only twenty-five years biologically. She has somehow managed to dodge many questions about her age, though she does get many questions from her old students, many of whom are now the parents of her current students, about how she manages to look so young. This makes it hard for her to live a normal life like she desires. Even though she is constantly disguised as a human and struggles with her identity, she enjoys the simplicity of the somewhat normal life that she has managed to make for herself. She finds out from Coulson that Bo-Kloff was captured and then rescued by Omar, who brings Bo-Kloff to visit Zoth. Bo-Kloff thanks Omar for what he did, and Zoth houses Bo-Kloff temporarily until he heals. He heals after a few weeks, though he is reluctant to go back home because he misses Zoth. She assures him that she will be fine and he eventually leaves.
Four years later, in the year 2012, Zoth is paged by Fury and asked to track down an extraterrestrial race called the Chitauri. Zoth’s witty response is, “Do you think that all aliens just know each other?” She is, however, aware of why he asked for her assistance. Years ago, she served as a diplomat for the Kree and the Skrull when they had issues with the Chitauri and she was still in outer space. Regardless, she politely declines, saying that she is just a history teacher now and that political diplomacy is no longer in her job description.
She promptly receives another call, this time from Coulson, who practically pleads with her to help S.H.I.E.L.D with the Chitauri because they need some extra hands on deck. She does not want to disappoint Coulson and she happens to have the rest of the day off, so she agrees to help, though she makes it clear that she still has no interest in being part of the Avengers initiative. The Avengers escort Loki, an Asgardian who hungers for world domination, to S.H.I.E.L.D. Meanwhile, Coulson helps Zoth set up in S.H.I.E.L.D’s flying aircraft, the Hellcarrier, where she will be doing research on and tracking down the Chitauri. When the Avengers learn that S.H.I.E.L.D. intends to exploit the Tesseract to manufacture weapons of mass destruction to use against hostile extraterrestrials, they argue and differ over how to approach Loki. Zoth calls them out on the danger of their methods and says that not all aliens are dangerous and that she knows because she is one. She adds in that she is under pressure all the time and has to do her best not to turn green or blue just so that people won’t attack her for existing. Her speech silences everyone and makes them feel guilty. She leaves the room, only to be followed a few minutes later by Bruce Banner, the scientist who was called in to track the gamma radiation of the Tesseract. He makes small talk with her and apologizes for what happened earlier during the argument between the Avengers. He also says that if anyone knows what it’s like to turn green under pressure, it is him. She isn’t sure what he means by that, but she accepts his apology, just before Loki's operatives assault the Hellcarrier during the altercation between the other Avengers. Zoth is forced to use her alien abilities to defend herself and find Coulson.
After fatally injuring Coulson, Loki flees. Zoth finds Coulson after he has died and she is devastated. After Coulson passes away, Fury uses it as inspiration to unite the Avengers. Temporarily, Zoth decides to go into battle with the Avengers in order to avenge Coulson. Fury tells her that Coulson made a suit for her years ago in case she ever wanted to join the initiative or use it in battle and he takes her to a special area where she puts it on. During the battle, Zoth saves Omar’s daughter, Sarab, who is in awe of her. During an altercation with one of Loki’s minions, Zoth falls off one of the buildings, but she is saved by Hulk, who seems intrigued by her alien form. She sees his eyes and immediately recognizes him as Bruce, but before she can say anything, he flees. In order to bring his Chitauri fleet and launch his invasion, Loki utilizes the Tesseract and a generator that a member of S.H.I.E.L.D., Erik Selvig, constructed to create a wormhole above Stark Tower in New York City. Zoth and the Avengers save New York. After the battle, Zoth returns home to Bo-Kloff with Coulson’s body and they have a small funeral for him.
Book 3: Emergence
Five years later, in the year 2017, Zoth has just finished teaching her last class a lesson about the Infinity Stones. While she is on her way home, she sees Hulk crash-land in a museum called the Sanctum Sanctorum. Despite her best judgment, she runs into the Sanctum Sanctorum to check on him, where he has reverted back to Bruce. This leads to an awkward and heartfelt reunion between them. She also reunites with Tony and Loki, and meets Dr. Stephen Strange and Wong for the first time. Bruce warns all of them about Thanos, a deviant with eternal genes, who has a plan to destroy half the universe using the Infinity Stones. At the mention of the stones, Zoth perks up and they ask her what she knows. She tells them everything, but says that she cannot get involved because she wants to live a normal life and refuses to be dragged into any fighting. She is just as shocked as Bruce is to find out that Steve Rogers and Tony fell out seven years ago and that the Avengers broke up. Bruce, Stephen, and Wong still manage to recruit Tony and send out a distress signal to the Guardians of the Galaxy. They also try to recruit Zoth, but she declines once again, and Bruce says that he understands. He offers to walk her home, but she politely declines and goes home by herself, trying not to think about how vast and dangerous the world’s current situation is.
Eventually, she can’t help but worry and calls Bo-Kloff to ask him if he is safe from Thanos. She is mortified to discover that the Skrull and the Kree are at odds and he is at the Skrull Refugee Colony with a handful of Skrulls and Kree, trying to figure out how to unite everyone against Thanos. Bo-Kloff informs her that he has called in Carol to try and smooth things out, but he is not sure how it will end. Zoth says that Earth could use Carol’s help right now as well, and he agrees, but they both understand if she can’t make it. After they end the call, Zoth calls Steve to ask how he is and wants to hear his side of the story. He says that he is okay and that the Avengers will be in Wakanda where Thanos’s army plans to invade. He tells her to stay safe and stay out of it, which ironically makes her want to get involved. Shortly before Thanos’s army invades Wakanda, some of its members attack Omar and his family. This is the final straw that drives Zoth to get involved, as she realizes that this war doesn’t just affect the superheroes and super villains, but the entire universe. The Zaman family knows that they aren’t safe in their house and that they need extra protection, so Zoth contacts Steve and asks him if she and the Zaman family can hide out in the Avengers Compound temporarily. Steve agrees and says that they are housing some of the other Avengers there, too.
Zoth travels to Wakanda, where Bucky Barnes and Steve have been reunited, and Thanos invades. Zoth has no choice but to help the Avengers and the Wakandans fight off Thanos’s army. Bruce, who is unable to summon Hulk, fights the Hulkbuster (armor that was developed by Tony and Bruce after they studied the Hulk’s physical actions and strength to find a way to use it in battle but minimize the damage caused by Hulk’s rages). Unfortunately, Bruce is struggling a little with it, so Zoth backs him up during battle. Eventually, Bo-Kloff arrives with backup from the Kree army as well as military intelligence from the Skrull army. Despite everyone’s best efforts, Thanos succeeds in retrieving the last infinity stone and wipes away half of all life residing on Earth, including Bo-Kloff.
Book 4: Legacy
During the twenty-three days after Thanos erases half all life in the universe, including Bo-Kloff, Zoth is at her lowest and unable to perform well at her job. She is let go by her employer and spends most of her time moping. She considers going to space to escape everything, but the idea leaves her mind when Bruce starts paying her frequent visits to keep her company. One day, while they are playing truth or dare to pass the time, she learns that he is working on a way to merge himself with the Hulk. She voices her worries about the danger of the experiment, but she still supports him. In the middle of their conversation, the remaining Avengers alert Bruce that Tony has been retrieved from space by Carol. Zoth and Bruce leave to visit Tony and reunite with the rest of the Avengers, along with Rocket Raccoon and Pepper Potts. Carol arrives to help them defeat Thanos, and Zoth finally finds the confidence to join them, being dubbed an Avenger by Tony.
Zoth spends the next four years helping the Avengers try to bring everyone back. Though Bruce encourages her to see if she can find another teaching job, she says that she won’t be able to perform well until she brings Bo-Kloff back. The Avengers help her train and learn how to master her abilities, but they don’t fully understand how her abilities work, so she travels temporarily to space where she hopes to find people who can help. There, she finds herself in the middle of another conflict between the Skrull and the Kree. Hala, the Kree home planet, is dying because someone known as the Annihilator has destroyed the Kree Supreme Intelligence, and a Kree leader known as Dar-Benn is looking for another sun to shine light on Hala again. Due to her political connections, Zoth speaks to Dar-Benn, hoping to convince her not to steal Earth’s sun. They do not entirely reach a resolution, but Dar-Benn agrees to wait until things settle down on Earth before she does anything rash. Zoth convinces her that it would not be wise to conduct business on that planet because it is weak anyway. Zoth leaves Hala without telling anyone what has happened and spends a year at the Skrull Refugee Colony training for battle. At the end of the year, she goes back to Earth to help the Avengers.
Back on Earth, Zoth finally finds the strength to look through Bo-Kloff’s things and discovers a hologram from Zalokos, which was a final message to him before her death. Zoth is moved and it gives her the strength to carry on. She leaves to talk to Bruce, who has now completely merged with the Hulk, and she tells him that the answer to saving everyone might be through space and time travel. Coincidentally, Scott Lang escapes the Quantum Realm that he was trapped in for five years and explains that he experienced only five hours while trapped. The Avengers agree to use time travel and Zoth decides at the last minute that she will go with them. She doesn’t retrieve any of the stones herself, but she decides to travel back in time to meet see Coulson again. She tells him that he is her hero and that she loves him, even if she can’t save him. He picks up on the fact that she is from the future, but he doesn’t say it, and he just gives her a hug instead. Zoth also uses the stones to reunite with her mother, Zalokos. Zoth shapeshifts into a random Skrull and introduces herself as Zelda Coulson to her mother. She shares a heartfelt moment with her mother, who says that she has a daughter on the way and is very excited about it. Feeling satisfied, Zoth returns to the present with the Avengers, saddened to find out that Natasha Romanoff sacrificed herself for the soul stone.
The Avengers reunite in the present and take some time to grieve Natasha, unable to find a way to bring her back. Then, they put the Stones through a test that Rocket, Tony, and Bruce have created. Using the gauntlet, Bruce, who is most resistant to the stones’ radiation, reverses Thanos’s actions. Carol, the Avengers, and everyone who disappeared during the snap reappear to fight Thanos’s army, along with a small army of Kree and Skrulls led by Bo-Kloff. Zoth happily reunites with Bo-Kloff and says that she saw her mother. They agree to talk about it later and fight side-by-side until the war is won. After stealing the stones from Thanos, Tony sacrifices himself by using them to destroy Thanos and his army. Zoth, Zoth’s students, Sarab and her family, and many others attend Tony’s funeral.  Following Tony’s funeral, Zoth and Bo-Kloff discuss Zoth’s encounter with her mother in the past and they reminisce. Thor’s friend, Valkyrie, is named by Thor as the new ruler of New Asgard and becomes a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Steve stays in the past to live with his old flame, Peggy Carter, after putting the Stones and Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, back in their correct timelines, and Steve passes his shield onto Sam Wilson, the Falcon.
A few days after the funeral, Zoth gets a call from Brooklynn Middle School, whose principle gives her back her job as a Social Studies teacher. She finds out from Scott that Bruce encouraged him to invite some of Zoth’s students to one of his podcasts. The podcast went viral after the students voiced how much they missed their teacher and wanted her to come back. The department head was fired for discrimination and Zoth was given her job back. She tells Bruce that she knows it was him who helped. He admits to it and she gives him a kiss on the cheek as a show of appreciation. Bo-Kloff asks Zoth if she and Bruce are together. She simply responds, “In another time. In another time.” The ending is Zoth teaching her students about the final battle against Thanos that took place in New York in the ruins of the Avengers Compound.
