"My time has come, Surroh. It's time for my rebirth." I said, looking into my brother's eyes.
"I'll come with you. Maybe it's time for me too," he started but I cut him off.
"You're still in your peak," I cackled, and continued, "or should I say beak?"
He gave up, knowing it's no use arguing with me, "please return safely."
"I'll be back, mightier than ever," I promised, and sprang my talons off the ground. I flapped till I got to a height and spread my aged feathers.
From up here, one could see the whole world. I spotted a deserted cliff approximately 3 miles from me, so I headed toward that direction.
I landed on the spot and took a deep breath. The scenery in front of me was pleasant enough to soothe me from the pain I would go through.
Without any hesitation, I started picking at my feathers. One by one, they fell on to the ground. It hurt, more than the last time I waxed myself when I was a human.
My left wing was featherless. And by the end of the day, my right wing was also the same.
Tomorrow's another day, Raba, I said to myself and continued picking out the other feathers.
My body hurt. It felt like sharp needles piercing me from all angles, but I had to stay put.
I took another deep breath, and prepared myself for the so-called "worst part." I looked around and found the hardest rock in that place, and hopped towards it.
I raised my head up to the heavens and slammed my beak down at the rock. I suppressed a loud cry of pain as I felt a small crack on my beak.
Heave, ho.
I repeated that countless number of times until my entire beak started chipping off. My mouth was burning. Perhaps I was losing blood, I couldn't even feel anything.
But this is a small price to pay. I've got to break this obsolete body and build a new one.
I felt like I had a thousand needles pierced into me and I was slowly removing them, one by one.
Most of my feathers have regrown, and so did my beak. I felt new. A rush of energy filled me as the wind blew across me, ruffling my feathers in the process.
I spread my wings, examining them. I felt like I was 16 years old again, only more experienced and powerful. I flapped them slowly, and testingly. I ran off the edge of the cliff and soared into the sky.
Surroh would be really proud.
