Ruby
Written: Dec 18th, 2017
The sky was laden with dark clouds and the land buried under a blanket of pale, grey snow. The ground, the streams, and the lakes are frozen and the whole world is eerily quiet and still. It was a perfect day to put my plan into action.
I flew over to my closet and wore the outfit I had carefully chosen a few weeks back.
I picked the skates that had platinum plated blades and red rubies studded beautifully along the silver lace. The rich, black leather rode all the way up to my knees, resting right below my loose silk dress. I flipped open my weapons cabinet and tucked my favourite blade behind me.
I stepped out into the ice. Pushing my other leg to the side, I began scraping the neat ice as I slid down the icy hill.
"You've finally showed up, eh?
Princess?"
As if the weather wasn't chilly enough, this woman made me shiver even more. I whipped around and frantically tried to locate the voice.
"Fall from your stupid broom already, you witch." I said out loud, looking at the sky.
Suddenly the ice between my feet started cracking. I quickly shifted to one side and trailed my eyes along the crack.
A hand cracked the ice from underneath and fisted out into the surface. Then, the other. The monster finally thrusted her head out of the ice and pulled herself out. Her black wavy hair covered her face as she smiled evily at the floor.
"What, are you planning to poison the ice?" I asked, despite how much she scared me. She was still in the same pose.
"Don't ruin this for me, Laura. I've been practising my entry for ages." She whispered loud enough for me to hear. She snapped her head towards me and revealed her horrid face.
"Gross, lady. No wonder you were glaring at your reflection on the ice like that." I said, pulling out my blade as I scrunched my face up.
Without any warning, I was thrown off my feet in less than a second, though I wasn't sure how she managed that from at least 100 meters away.
"I beg your pardon?" She said, walking towards me. Strangely enough, she looked as if she hadn't moved an inch. She sliced through the ice as she walked, somehow withstanding the lack of friction.
"I was saying, that your eyebrows would look better as my shoe laces."
She sprouted whips out of her back (don't shoot the messenger, I have no clue what she is) and lashed them on my wrists. They clung on to me, tightening further as I tried to struggle.
"So would your legs on my plate!" She cackled – sadly, quite literally cackled.
I willed my rubies to do their magic. A familiar rush of energy coursed through me as I was lifted off the ground, a whirl or red snow forming around me. I sliced her stupid lashes with the fast moving snow and flew over to her.
I smiled, and did a small wave, before I let the rubies and snow take over the situation.

"Let's pay a visit to the old frozen hag, shall we?" I asked Bumbum, my newly adopted polar bear. He gave me his signature grin as we zipped through the same ice.
There she was, still frozen in the most attractive pose. Some kids have even broken off her arm and used it as a shovel for clearing the snow. Some girls had even painted her shoes in rainbow colours and meddled a lot with the design of her black (now mostly white and crystal) cloak.
Things were just perfect.
